New Orleans Hornets Reportedly Want to Trade Eric Gordon for Klay Thompson

The Hornets are said to have placed Eric Gordon on the market, and have their eye on Klay Thompson (unlikely as that deal may be.) Per the Times-Picayune: “Hornets officials had no comment regarding trade rumors Tuesday night, but Gordon said for the second consecutive day that he’s not concerned about the trade deadline. However, he acknowledged that anything is possible. ‘I don’t really get caught up to it,’ Gordon said Tuesday night. ‘But you just never know your situation. That’s part of the process but at the end of the day, you can’t worry about that as a player. If it happens, it happens. I’m definitely not worried about it.’ Sources confirm the Hornets would be interested in any trade deal with the Golden State Warriors that would include second-year shooting guard Klay Thompson. But sources indicate the Warriors are reluctant to part ways with Thompson, whom they feel is a young emerging star. With the Hornets’ matching the Phoenix Suns’ four-year, $58 million offer sheet to retain him as a restricted free agent, Gordon has veto power over any trade deal going into Thursday’s deadline. The Hornets are restricted from trading Gordon to the Suns. Gordon remains on strict restrictions by the Hornets medical staff to not play in the second game of back-to-back sets. He is not expected to play Wednesday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena.”

chances of this happening = zero. no way g state gives up a player they love that is on his rookie deal for a maxed out injury prone one

  • https://twitter.com/Wayne__o BuenoWayno1

Trade is not gonna happen, no one forced management to throw the bank at EG. The ”pelicans” made their bed so now they have to lay in it.

  • Max

    The Pelicans made their nest.

  • Da Real

pelicans should have dumped him when they had the chance. phoenix wanted him bad

  • Draak Grafula

At the moment it’s still a hornets’ nest being stirred up down in NO.

  • Caboose

Anyone else (who actually watches GS games) think Klay is actually MASSIVELY overrated?

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

Yea, they already have an injury prone Curry and Bogut to deal with.

  • http://twitter.com/ChillFrom91Til Allan

    That Sh#t klay

  • ayochaser

Send him to Phoenix where he shoulda went in the first place. I bet they’d still make a move for him. Even if he’s injury prone I feel like he’s still a great young player. His main problem is happiness he never wanted to be in NO in the first place.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

and we all know he would never have another injury if he went to Phoenix

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

wouldn’t it be fun though if the Warriors could have 3 injury prone starters?

  • TR

Why do you say hes overrated? Hes a good shooter and he plays solid D. His percentages on offense aren’t great, but considering the amount of jump shots its pretty decent

  • roscoe

    lol… good look w/ dat… GSW aren’t trading klay… lol…

who put this story out? were they drunk? lol.

  • roscoe

i don’t if ppl are overrating klay, are dey?

he is a good shooter, he gets his own shot, finishes, runs the floor, plays good D on multiple positions, and has a big body, and from all the 411 is a good teammate.

how is dat overrating? all teams wud be lucky to have him.

  • Caboose

    1. His D is FAR from solid. It’s ugly.
    2. His shooting is very overrated. He’s decent, sure, but he’s not in the elite category of sharp shooters.
    3. His shot selection is poor.
    4. He can’t create his own shot, like at all.
    5. His basketball iq, especially on defense, is lacking.

  • Iggi Vasquez

Solid D, can shot the J, no injury prone and still developing. Golden State better stay put.

  • ayochaser

Exactly. They had Shaq & Nash playing like all stars past 35 so EG would deff benefit from their training staff.

  • ayochaser

I wouldn’t say he’s overrated, remember it is just halfway through his 2nd year. I think the better term is still growing. He’s not the most athletic guy, & isn’t a great defender but he’s a much better ball handler than he gets credit for, he just needs to work on his shooting consistency and maybe rebounding but he’s got potential man.

  • Skeeter

You don’t watch many Warriors games.
    1. Klay Thompson’s defensive PER is actually pretty well above average and he’s got the height/length to develop further.
    2. He’s a great shooter, just needs to learn when not to shoot
    3. Yep
    4. Yes. Yes he can create his own shot. He has a very nice stepback jumpshot by the baseline, and has improved his handles tremendously in the last year or so.
    5. He’s in his second year. This will improve

    So in summary.
Would you rather have a smallish max deal guy on a bum knee, or a prototypical SG that has not had any injury concerns, is on a cheap rookie contract, and has great potential?

  • LakeShow

    Klay Thompson’s upside >>>> Eric Gordon’s

  • LakeShow

    No.
He is a third or 4th option on most nights. He is flawed, but he is going to be a very, very, good player.

  • LakeShow

    You nailed it mang.

  • LakeShow

    Co-Sign

  • LakeShow

    Awesome, just awesome.
Especially since Pelicans have really lousy nests compared to other birds…

  • Slick Ric

Gotta agree caboose, EG is injury prone but I think this would be a upgrade for the warriors.

  • LeroyShonuff

That phoenix staff and them *cough* PED’s *cough* can fix any injury

  • Caboose

    1. He has a 109 defensive rating. That puts him just behind defensive studs like Luke Ridnour, JR Smith, Kyrie Irving, and Jose Calderon.
    2. Great shooter? 42% is not a great shooter. Period.
    3. Good.
    4. He has 80% of his shots assisted on, compared to the league average of 60%. That is a RIDICULOUSLY high number.
    5. Idc if it will improve, we’re talking about NOW.

Did I ever compare him to Eric Gordon?

  • Caboose

Of course you don’t mind the shot happy player who doesn’t care about defense

  • Caboose

Oh I agree he has potential. But he’s distinctly average right now.

  • LakeShow

Of course you don’t like a guy who’s advance stats (robot voice) “DO NOT COMPUTE” with what your Hollinger mind has made up for you.

  • LakeShow

Who has a better PG duo than GSW? Makes sense he gets assisted allot. That’s not a bad thing. That’s just good team play.
He’s a GREAT shooter. So is Jimmer Fredette. Take that how you will.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Junior-Taylor/100003121138419 Junior Taylor

Of course but if EG ever gets back to 100%, I’m taking him over Klay

  • bill

How many years in the NBA do ALL of those guys have on Klay Thompson?…nevermind

  • Caboose

Is that why he gets assisted more than EVERYONE else on his team? In fact, amongst guards, he’s one of the league leaders in % of his baskets assisted. He can’t make his own shot, and that stat alone is damn good evidence of it.

  • bill

Not when he’s only got 1-1/2 seasons in the NBA…nope.

  • MUBWAR

    loool

  • Caboose

I forgot, how long has Kyrie been in the league?

  • tgold

Klay has cost the warriors a handful of games this year. The denver brain fart is at the top. you can always count on klay to get burned at the end of a game or miss a layup. When the heat beat the warriors they went after Klay every single time down. he lacks the clutch gene and shouldn’t play at the end of games. I hope he is traded.

  • LakeShow

Have you ever heard of Ray Allen. He’s a young, slightly less talented version of Allen.
Who cares what percentage of his buckets are assisted… for real that’s some dumb BS your on. He doesn’t need to create his own shot right now he’s a GREAT spot up shooter. The team has Curry, Lee, Barnes, and soon Bogut to create their own shots.

  • Caboose

Lol he’s like Ray Allen…I know you hate advanced stats, but just look up Klay’s win shares. They are PATHETIC.

  • Caboose

Is PPG literally the only stat you give a sh!t about?

  • LakeShow

Is offensive rating the only thing that means anything about a players offensive to you?

All Hail Tyson Chandler!!!! Greatest offensive player ever!

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

GS too smart for this deal

  • LakeShow

    lol, Win shares….
Let me school you real quick.
    Kevin Love. Name sound familiar?
He’s the top 3 PF that you think doesn’t help his team win games.
He was 4th in win shares last year……..
    LOL

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Junior-Taylor/100003121138419 Junior Taylor

Using the term “clutch gene” should warrant a lifetime ban from ever commenting on basketball.

  • Caboose

And I’ll admit I was wrong on that one.

  • LakeShow

That went easier than expected lol.

  • davidR

dude klay is trigger happy. cmon man he’s shooting terribly this year, and no he cannot create his own shot

  • davidR

agreed. his shooting is great, but the problem is his shot selection. he jacks up too many contested, off balance, early in the shot clock shots and it really kills momentum

  • davidR

slightly less talented? i know klay is young, but let’s not disrespect ray allen like that
