Pau Gasol Out 6 Weeks With Partial Tear in Foot

Pau Gasol said he felt a pop in his right foot during Tuesday’s win over the Nets, and later admitted he was worried sick about what an MRI today would reveal. Unfortunately, his hunch was correct. A league source tells CBS Sports that Gasol has a partial tear of his plantar fascia and will miss at least six weeks (and possibly as much as three months if he opts for surgery):

And their season was looking up just a lil bit right now.
Now they have Jamison, Sacre and Clark up front.
    YUCK.
    Time to sign Mbenga again!

  • robb

    sh*t

  • ..

Lakers cant really catch a break right now. Finally playing decent and then another player goes down.. Clark has been playing amazing but he has to play out of his mind now to get the Lakers into the playoffs. This guy is defending smallforwards( Durant etc.) and the next night he is defending centers like Lopez and Nene..

  • The Philosopher

    SOOooo… D’Antoni isn’t stupid, after all.

  • showtime

well it always next year to get to the playoffs &western confrence finals..franchise notorious for lucky bounces. cant get a break.wow..

Poor L.A. Instead of “exceptionally more talent than the rest of the L,” they now have to only play with “more talent than the rest of the L.”

I have no doubt in my mind that they are still going to make the playoffs

  • Comment_System

    Tacos!

  • speedy

I don’t really know if D’Antoni expected anything like that.
But we now know that Gasol’s body had to rest more, than Gasol wanted to rest.

  • pposse

maybe if he didnt have an uptempo pace/ game calling these guys wouldn’t get these injuries…D’Antoni is still stupid.

  • Max

The Lakers – DH – Pau does not = more talent than the rest of the L.

  • shockexchange

The Lakers with Pau Gasol / Andrew Bynum at the same ____ time = “Exceptionally more talent than the rest of the L.” But they squandered it. Now it’s chickens come home to roost. (Shaq voice) “Tell me how my ____ taste.”

  • playa

man,you are spitting pure nonsense which is always the case when you talk about lakers- they’ve been plagued by injuries whole season&never really had a chance to develop any chemistry/unity/cohesion on the floor. This season for LA i complete failure but let’s not pretend they lose everything being in full strenght. And talent isn’t everything, especially when it’s not being fully utilized.

  • TheTruth

    Time to pick up K-Mart

  • shockexchange

The Shock Exchange has been consistent concerning the Lakers. Since the Pau Gasol / Andrew Bynum at the same ____ time era, they have had “exceptionally more talent than the rest of the L.” Yet they have been the most underachieving team in the L, and expecting another Gasol to fall into their laps (for free) has bred laziness and a sense of entitlement. Put it in your diary playa.

really arguing with your brain there aren’t you?

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

Man, if the Lakers miss the playoffs with this team, then I guess Amazing does happen in the NBA. Most expensive team to miss the playoffs ever?

  • Max

It would be the same nontheless.

  • shockexchange

So you already know how it tastes … the Shock Exchange sees you Max.

I dont want to have to go into the archives, but i know for a fact that i explained this to you since the beginning that D’Antoni and his high powered, fast paced offense would cause injuries to an older Lakers team. You rebutted and said that if the Lakers were to play a grind it out more physical game that they would be more suceptible to injuries. I didn’t disagree with it, but….

This particular injury to the Plantar is probably from running too much, too often.

If he were to get a shoulder injury or a wrist injury, or peck problem i wouldn’t say it was from the system, but this injury imo is a result from a system that is catered towards younger legs/feet but put in place with the wrong personnel.

  • Max

    lol…

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

let’s act like not only is D’Antoni running an offense that he isn’t, but also like Pau is being ran excessively and has just sprung in injury out of nothingness.

    .

or let’s just consider this has been a nagging issue for Pau all season. He was even diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis in December.

    .

    http://articles.latimes.com/2012/dec/27/sports/la-sp-ln-pau-gasol-diagnosed-plantar-fasciitis-20121227

    .

The uptempo game/pace is not prevalent. And it certainly is not the cause of this injury.

  • pposse

plantar occurs from running too much too often. The game pace is accelerated in D’Antoni system, so to completely disregard this when finding the cause of the injury is not due dilligence. Last i checked D’Antoni was the coach on Dec. 27, 2012 when the article was written.

Noah on the Bulls has the same issue, and Thibs uses NOah like a work horse, he overuses him and I am almost sure that Noah plays one of the most minutes for big men in the league.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

No, Plantar Fasciitis doesn’t just happen when you run too often.

    .

It can be caused by Foot/Arch problems

It can be caused by a shoe

It can be caused by other leg stress that affects movement

    .

Let’s think about if any of those things apply to Pau this season…….

    .

The thing is, the difference in pace for the Lakers this year, compared to last, is 4 possessions. Are you really that enthusiastic about possibly being right that you want to blame a foot injury on 4 extra possessions a game?

    .

Oh and BTW…..Pau played 37MPG last season. He’s playing 33MPG this season.
    .
So, what you are really saying is, those extra 4 possessions and running that come with it, are SO stressful, that Pau is experiencing more stress on his feet then he did last season, in 4 more minutes. You know, because the average possession lasts longer than a f*cking minute.
    .
gtfoh with that stupid ass idea.

    .

  • pposse

u still haven’t told me if your related to D’Antoni or not.

he might not get the same minutes but moves more in the less minutes he plays and thats due to what,…oh yeah thats the offense

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

except that’s not true. you obviously don’t actually watch the Lakers. you just say things you think are right.

    .

The Lakers aren’t running the SSOL. You keep thinking they are or whatever but they aren’t. And Pau is not physically running anymore than he did last season. Especially considering he isn’t playing power forward this year.

    .

    Especially defensively.

.”u still haven’t told me if your related to D’Antoni or not.” – is this what you resort to when people use facts against your opinion? you think because i disagree with you and all the other ignorant idiots on this website who just spew of their nonsensical opinions it comes from somewhere personal? You know me. You have been reading my comments for years. If D’Antoni was doing something stupid (like not playing Pau with Dwight) i will say it. As i have been doing. I am not, however, going to willingly be an idiot just because i don’t like something or someone. I hate the Lakers infact, but yet i have spent the majority of this season putting reason behind their decisions. Even the one’s i don’t agree with, because more than i hate the Lakers or anything, i hate stupidity. Like this argument you are making right now. It’s stupid.

  • pposse

so..your logic states that running suicides for 10 minutes is less stressful/harmful to your body than jogging 5 miles since the suicides take less time..thats the only logic i am getting from your argument.

I have seen Laker games, not all, not nearly as much as you, but i do know they are playing more up tempo, by your own admission the team plays 4 more possessions. they are running vertically up and down the court more, which tells me they are running harder. I contended since the beginning that the Lakers are big at every position and should slow the game down, since D’Antoni is not doing that and has not been successful thus far I’m not goin to back down from my stand pt. Hell, even if they win and get out of the first and second rd of the playoffs i won’t back from my views, only if they win a championship will I be proven wrong.

You still haven’t answered the questions, in fact your side swiped the question by saying you hate the lakers!!

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

THEY AREN’T RUNNING D’ANTONI’S PHOENIX SYSTEM.

    .

Are you purposefully not reading the words infront of your face?

.”I have seen Laker games, not all, not nearly as much as you, but i do know they are playing more up tempo”

    .

You admit i have seen more Lakers games then you. We both KNOW i have seen more D’Antoni coached games. So why do you constantly ignore that i am telling you they aren’t running the uptempo system you assume they are?

    .

And you really need me to tell you i’m not related to Mike D’Antoni? That is a serious question? not you being a troll? — No, i’m not related to him. Move on.

    .

.”I contended since the beginning that the Lakers are big at every position and should slow the game down, since D’Antoni is not doing that and has not been successful thus far I’m not goin to back down from my stand pt. Hell, even if they win and get out of the first and second rd of the playoffs i won’t back from my views, only if they win a championship will I be proven wrong.”

    .
This is like me saying, “Derrick Rose is overrated, he never deserved that MVP. And since the Bulls are still pretty good without him, i’m not going to change my opinion. Especially if they don’t win a championship. He never deserved that MVP.”
    .
    - That’s the same, out of context, stupid, opinionated idea about a different team. What would you say to someone who said that?

  • The Philosopher

    Maybe you’re right…
Which leads me to believe that D’Antoni knew that Gasol wasn’t right, as well. In more ways than some people may have realized. Which is why, D’Antoni would sit him.
Gasol is a shell of his former self. And D’Antoni knew it, and acted on it by sitting Gasol. But he broke down, anyway.
    WHILE Gasol was complaining.
In my opinion, at this moment, D’Antoni is looking like a competent professional.

  • Mike From Spain

That should end the Gasol trade speculation.
