Phoenix Suns Reportedly Want to Move Marcin Gortat for Kendrick Perkins

According to the AZ Republic, the Suns are interested in a trade that would include Marcin Gortat in exchange for Kendrick Perkins. Jermaine O’Neal could also be on the move by tomorrow’s trade deadline: “ESPN.com reported New York’s interest in Jermaine O’Neal and Toronto’s interest in Sebastian Telfair while another source said there was All-Star break talk of Oklahoma City exploring Marcin Gortat and P.J. Tucker for Kendrick Perkins, Jeremy Lamb and a first-round pick. Perkins is the type of center to fit the new defensively geared culture, although he is limited offensively for a team wanting to post up its big men. Lamb probably would have been the Suns’ draft pick in June had Houston not made a trade to move up two spots and take him in front of Phoenix. The Suns do have $6.4 million of cap room to take on salary in a deal, but it is more likely that the Suns stand pat to protect their two first-round draft picks and salary-cap space, which leaves room to sign a maximum-level free agent.”

That would be big for OKC, PJ Tucker aint to bad for a throw in also.

  • Jay cutler

    The suns are doomed.

  • nick

Oh my gosh I pray to everything for OK, this happens….might as well tattoo the Larry O’Brien trophy on their arm….

  • http://twitter.com/SLAM_Radio SLAM Radio

Why would any team trade for Perkins? Scowling doesn’t get you on the scoreboard

  • dunkbar

with tucker and sefolosha, the thunder would have two top-notch wing defenders.

  • TBRK

    lol….joking right?

  • Anthony Dixon

thunder could use some low post scoring.

  • Redd

Haha that’s horrible, if OKC thought Perkins was bad just wait til u get Gortat.

  • OneStep

So the Suns are trading down their record and up in the Lottery now? Shouldn’t the League look at trades where teams are deliberately crippling themselves to move up in the Draft? What about the Suns fans who would be thrown under the bus?

  • ErnieD

come back to Boston, Perk. Things ain’t been the same since you left.

  • phil

The okc deal isn’t bad lamb is a good player and young tucker getting old anyways and gortat isn’t giving much production this year anyways Perkins isn’t scared of contact like gortat is and of course Perkins offensive stats are low look who he have to score on his team at least he don’t cry about the ball and play good defensive and tucker the same way play good defensive but we don’t have a scorer really so I don’t see why he isn’t scoring so lamb isn’t bad for him you guys gotta look at the bright side on this one.

  • thesage

Isn’t Gortat that guy that got dunked on by KD repeatedly and then was seen wearing KD shoes the next time Suns and Thunder played? Says something about him.

  • playa

Gortat is infinately better than perkins in almost everything but setting moving screens,so i dont know what are you talking about man

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

Toronto interested in Telfair? Hmm, no thanks.

  • Bravo

If we trade kleiza or petrus I’m fine the this trade. But I’d take John Lucas over him……..he’s and easy bake over with his shots.

  • analfissures

    PUNCTUATION.

  • Dymez

If OKC makes that deal, say hello to a Miami Heat/Los Angeles Clippers NBA Finals.

  • spit hot fiyah

very wierd trade for the suns

  • slamonthis

If OKC gets rid of Perks, their chances of getting back to the finals may get slimmer. He might be liable on offense but he does good defensively. He keeps slasher at bay and dunkers except someone name Blake. And, WTF does OKC needs to score more down low when KD and Westbrook combine for 50 nearly every damn game. Then, you got Ibaka who can also knock down some shots, Martin coming off the bench. Perk is perfect for this Thunder squad because he doesn’t need the ball to make an impact.

  • slamonthis

we need him bad or someone like him just to keep slasher to back off a lil. Ainge need to get his ass fired. He hasn’t done anything good since trading for KG n Ray!! It seems every one is on the trade block with him these days.

  • Redd

The guy has no hands & with the ball in his hand it disappears.

    But nice try.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    LOL this is completely false

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

this is false. i’ve heard from multiple people in and close to the Suns that this is outrageously false.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Gortat is a much much much better player than Perkins

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you clearly don’t watch Gortat. stop.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003246310246 Jason Carter

why they wanna do that? Gortats Better

  • thunder fan

This move would be perfect for the thunder you get a low post scorer from Gortat another wing defender who played Durant well pj tuck and it works for the Suns getting Lamb back young good player

  • roscoe

Perk publicly stating OKC needs to toughen up appears to have been a line crosser.

OKC = mistake if dey dump Perk & i don’t like Perk (he’s dirty), but he serves a purpose.

  • thunder fan5

How is that when gortat averages more points and rebounds then Perk

  • LakeShow

    Dude…. No.

Ibaka doesn’t score on the block. He’s a jump shooter (and rightfully so).
Gortat would add a whole new dimension on offense.

Also guess what? He’s a comparable to Perk on D these days.

Major upgrade for OKC if this goes through.

  • 23

    What does it say?

  • LakeShow

    contracts, I can only assume.

  • LakeShow

He can appreciate a good dunker?

  • 23

    You are embarrassing yourself

  • LakeShow

    LOL… Do you watch basketball?

Perk is terrible man. Gortat is a decent big man. Top 10-15 Big in the L.

  • Redd

    I do/have..lol.

  • Redd

By having an opinion? Oh no..I’m so worried about what people Idk think on here..?

    Ok lol.

  • Redd

On a team where nobody is the clear offensive leader & there’s no one with the size & rebounding skills of Gortat.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

well then you don’t know how to watch basketball. because what you are saying is so outrageously wrong, 23 is right, you are embarrassing yourself. Gortat is so much better than Perkins that this trade rumor is outrageously false.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Nick Tha Quick

For the record, Goran “The Dragon” will not wear the DRose 3′s. Or the 2′s. Or any DRose affiliated shoes.

  • LeroyShonuff

The myth that Perkins is a game charger defensively is hilarious. Yes he is a big body who can move a bit and played Dwight well is true, but people act like Perkins is Mutombo or a young Theo Ratliff. He anchors no defense and is just a clog. Nothing more nothing less. If I’m OKC I am trying to make this trade happen. You get a better player in every portion of the game. Gortat is a better passer, rebounder, scorer, post scorer, help defender, weak side shot blocker, runs the floor better, better free throw shooter as well. If this is a legit trade request OKC better say yes. Also people blame harden (rightfully so) for OKC finals performance but Perkins was the real weak link. He couldn’t run the floor, rebound in space, catch and finish or make open jumpers. Gortat solves all that. With Gortat different series

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

totally fabricated. that’s what this is.

  • Redd

    There’s a way to watch?

Hey guess what..I still don’t care what you guys think about MY opinions. Don’t like them? Ignore me, idc.

  • Redd

Perk hasn’t been good this year, agreed. But in an offense like OKC has where the ball moves a lot, Perk is better to have than Gortat because Gortat isn’t good at moving the ball.

If I’m wrong, I’m wrong, c’est la vie but that’s what I think.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yes. just like there is a way to read a book. if you don’t understand it, you aren’t doing it right.
    .
the thing is, your opinion is wrong, and we told you so. Don’t like us telling you your opinion is wrong? Don’t give it to us.

  • LakeShow

Damn, that’s too bad. I wish we could get a bluff meter on SLAM posts.

  • LakeShow

I award you 10 up votes for this post.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i am the bluff meter for Suns stuff. in the least.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

that is seriously the way i look at basketball and commenting on this website. i would make that my bio if i could

  • LakeShow

Yeah, that’s true, you up on that Suns info.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

With how much I pay attention to basketball and my location I don’t have much of a choice lol

  • RayJr

50+ comments for a Gortat/Perkins trade??? Had to check in to see if this somehow transformed into a Jordan/Kobe/Lebron debate.

  • Redd

Don’t like me being wrong then ignore it. I understand the majority feel I’m wrong, heck no one has agreed with me but I still think what I think because you can’t know how Gortat reacts to playing with Wbrook & KD.

So again, I’ll continue giving my opinion without regard for what people I’ll never meet think, c’est la vie.

  • LP

This is almost too good to be true…..This is like trading Brandon Jennings for Jameer Nelson…..neither player is great but, you rather have Jennings on your team…right? i hope this was a good analogy….

  • Redd

Anyways, trade talks for Gortat/Perkins ended, it’s not happening.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Junior-Taylor/100003121138419 Junior Taylor

Still to this day, I believe that Harden was the biggest reason why OKC lost in the Finals. Think about it, Perk sucked throughout the WC playoffs yet OKC made it all the way to the Finals while Harden was the deciding factor during the WCF. If he had been able to replicate a similar performance in the Finals, OKC wins.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

But we do KNOW Gortat is a much better player. Your opinion is about as logical as someone saying Iman Shumpert is better than Paul George. Or David West is better than Blake Griffin. Or Carlos Boozer is better than Chris Bosh. It’s wrong. And it’s ignorant. .
And why do you keep telling me to ignore you? I just explained that if you say something wrong we ARE going to let you know. Repeating yourself is only making me do the same thing. .
If you don’t want to hear your opinion is wrong when it is, don’t share your opinion.

  • Redd

Lol, exactly what you or anyone knows isn’t law. Gortat is better but I don’t see him fitting with OKC & well the talks collapsed so who cares but Gortat doesn’t fit OKC’s system.

But fair enough, continue commenting & I’ll ignore you while I continue to share my opinion. There that’s fixed.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

You don’t have a reason for that opinion. Which is what makes this so ridiculous. You talk about who has better hands….http://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=1&p1=gortama01&y1=2013&p2=perkike01&y2=2013 – Gortat is more efficient on more attempts, rebounds more, and turns the ball over less…….so he’s got better hands in every way there is too measure a player’s hands. But yet you ignorantly boast your opinion about Gortat’s hands while being condescending to the person who tried to tell you in a less offensive manner that you are completely and utterly wrong.
    .
And instead of admitting you are over reacting and don’t actually know what you are talking about, you are arrogantly and ignorantly defending yourself like there is actually any logical reasoning behind your “opinion” —- which is actually just a guess that you for no real logical reason at all are defending. I mean, it is clearly a guess that you got flat out wrong. And I know you don’t actually watch Gortat. I bet you’ve seen a game or 3, but no, you don’t actually watch. You have told me as much about other teams as well.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    they never started.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

it’s a good analogy. and it is too good to be true for OKC fans. Someone just made this up and everyone bit on it.

  • Redd

A game or 3? Try..I watch basketball every time I don’t have class or a study.

You talk about ignorance yet can’t accept that in my opinion Gortat doesn’t fit in OKC..that’s an opinion..you cannot know if he does until he plays there which he now won’t. I’ve even said Gortat is having a better season but again I don’t think he fits in OKC..it’s an opinion.

So enjoy that, that hypocritical ignorance.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

YOU DON’T HAVE A REASON FOR THAT OPINION.

    .

And watching basketball everytime you don’t have class is fun. But i KNOW you don’t watch the suns often..

    .

or did you forget this, http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2013/01/alvin-gentry-out-as-phoenix-suns-head-coach/

    .
you are only proving you just say things by continuing to argue something so obvious. you are like a child who got caught stealing his moms cookies, got that sh*t all over his face, and still, with a cookie in his hand, won’t admit who took those cookies.

  • roscoe

    mmm cookies… oreo?

  • hillbilly

Without even bothering to scroll down, I’d say that about half the comments are from casual fans, offering their opinions. The other half are probably from Slam’s resident, self-appointed expert on all things basketball, telling everyone that they’re completely wrong. (scrolls down) Yep. Nailed it.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    lol

  • Redd

The comments won’t load but I believe you bested me on a convo about the Suns. But I don’t see what that has to do with this? I don’t watch the Suns often but there’s oddly a lot of Bulls/Bears fans in Phx & I was discussing Gortat with them & the majority said what I also believed to be true from seeing them play against us. He’s a good rebounder but doesn’t pass well.

But all right, my opinions are idiotic & befuddling to read. You win, congrats, I’m going to continue commenting as I always have.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

nobody told you to stop commenting. my issue is with you being a condescending idiot. say your opinion. but don’t defend it like a d*ckhead and lie a bunch in the process.
and that link was another time you offered up an opinion on the Suns and their players without actually knowing anything about what you were saying.
“doesn’t pass well” is a fine criticism of Gortat. just fine. that doesn’t make any sense when comparing him to Perkins tho, who also doesn’t pass well. Or do anything at all well for that matter except guarding the post. But if that’s your only reason, then say so in the first place. It would have saved both of us all of this stupid banter.

    .

  • Redd

What would’ve saved the stupid banter would be you calling me out then leaving it be.

Also trust, I’m no “idiot”. But lied? Lol ok. Blame yourself for being the idiot who ignorantly can’t stand the opposite opinion of what you think.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

nbk in reply to Redd • 3 hours ago

“you clearly don’t watch Gortat. stop.”

    .

i did call you out and leave it be.

    .

Redd in reply to nbk: “i do/have”

    .

You lied. Because maybe you “have” – but you don’t.

    .

Proof —-> Redd: “I don’t watch the Suns often but there’s oddly a lot of Bulls/Bears fans in Phx & I was discussing Gortat with them & the majority said what I also believed to be true from seeing them play against us.”
    .
You seem like an idiot (which i know you actually aren’t) because you are presenting an opinion, which isn’t based on anything but speculation, that is blatantly wrong. It’s not that i can’t stand an opposing opinion to my own, it’s that i can’t stand an opinion that is not based on anything, and one that differs from reality. which is what you have presented to us, and continued to defend.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i think LeBron is the biggest reason OKC lost in the Finals

  • LakeShow

A little mix of both I think, but you have a good point.

  • Redd

Look man, no matter what I am an idiot compared to you in basketball. I still think Gortat doesn’t fit OKC & he more so fits a great back up role.

I’m not gonna waste your time because you could be wasting font on someone more on your level of Ball IQ. But again, my opinion is based on my belief he doesn’t fit the center starter role on OKC.

No matter what I’ll continue enjoying your great basketball input & likely continue being wrong more than right at times and I’m perfectly fine doing that til’ I understand more. So again, you’ve bested me in regards to Gortat being more efficient than Perk.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i am not trying to prove i am smarter than you or whatever. and i am not worried about wasting time.
    .
what i meant by the stupid banter is.
    .
i want you to say your actual reasoning when you defend your opinion. i don’t want to hear what you think will make me respect your opinion more or whatever that was. i want to discuss basketball. i’m not here to be a know it all or a d*ckhead. but i can’t stop being an honest person who hates false ideas.
    .
i just wanted you to say why you think Gortat doesn’t fit in OKC and Perkins does. And if you wanted to, I wanted to discuss those reasons with you. i wasn’t trying to make a personal attack or impose my knowledge on you or whatever. but the way you reacted (in general) really rubbed me the wrong way.

  • https://twitter.com/jasontichenor Mr. Wet

i saw this exact trade scenario on hoopshype like 3 weeks ago. It was some article someone wrote about trades they’d like to see happen.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

haha i hope that’s the father of this rumor

  • RayJr

Mostly how it always is. Still entertaining though during a slow workday.

  • LeroyShonuff

I hear your point but if you remember that series OKC played from behind most of the series. A big part of that was they had no post presence when Perkins played. They made majority of their runs when Collison played. Gortat is a much better Collison. Especially game 2 (the game everybody points to when bringing up Harden) Collison mins dropped form 20+ which he never saw again for the rest of the series. I’m not saying had Collison played more OKC would’ve won but having a Gortat/Collison big man rotation is dramatically better than Perkins/Collison. Also OKC went on a historic shooting spree in the WCF to beat the Spurs which is extremely hard to duplicate.

  • LeroyShonuff

I say it was Brooks and Westbrook who lost that series…

  • Redd

No, maybe I overreacted but I get it. So let me attempt to explain. Perkins isn’t having a good year but he has proven that his D is great whereas Gortat hasn’t BUT as of late clearly it seems Perk’s blocking has become abysmal & Gortat has done well. Gortat is having a good year but I don’t think he’d fit well with OKC’s team especially not mid-season personally. I also don’t see Gortat complimenting Ibaka like Perk does.

  • notyouqueers

    Get a room foghats

Man, don’t waste your time educating people on how to debate, if they don’t want to get better… I mean, it’s all nice trying to tell some kid/guy/geezer/whatever what do the rules of logical debate imply or consist of, but if they don’t want to be told about it, I’d just let it be

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

makes me look like an asshole arguing how i do. might as well try and make it so i don’t have to do that daily lol

i dont know but i have a feeling that phoenix will be an awesome team in the next couple of years and will at least be entertaining again next season.
