Post Up: Seeing Green

The Celtics crush the Lakers in Boston.

by Peter Walsh / @goinginsquad

Two blowouts last night…anyone else ready for All-Star Weekend? These guys need a break (both the players and Leo and I!). I’m actually looking forward to the Dunk Contest / 3-Pt Contest for the first time in a while as well.

Celtics 116 (26-23), Lakers 95 (23-27)

After winning three straight, the Lakers looked like they were turning a corner. Then it all came crashing down…again. Pau got hurt, Dwight got hurt, Kobe stays buggin’ and D’Antoni is still a terrible coach. Last night, all the problems came to the forefront in the form of a 21-point L to the red-hot Celtics. Paul Pierce scored 12 of his 24 points (he also had 7 boards and 6 assists) in the second half as Boston exploded in the third quarter to run away with this one. The Celtics ended the third on a 14-3 run that pushed their lead to 26 points and left the Lakers with absolutely no chance. Paul Pierce summed it up perfectly postgame, “Whenever you match up against the Lakers, it always feels good to give them the old fashioned beat down at your house. You know, it doesn’t matter what direction this team is going, there will always be a rivalry. You know, everybody’s always going to watch, and it feels good to win like that.” KG scored the 25,000th point of his career (Salute.) and finished with 15 points and Jeff Green scored 19 off the bench. Kobe scored 27 points on 9-15 shooting but had 0 assists and Dwight Howard tallied 9 points and 9 boards before fouling out.

Just Cuz:

Action Bronson – Strictly 4 The Jeeps

Nuggets 128 (32-18), Bulls 96 (29-20)

Remember in the off-season when Ty Lawson said that the Nuggets were the best team in the West? Remember when everyone scoffed at him at the beginning of the season when the Nuggs got off to a slow start? Well, 128 points against the League’s best defense is no joke. Not saying they’re the best team in the West, but at 32-18, they have to be in the conversation. A Thunder-Nuggets Playoff series would be DOPE.

a Thunder-Nuggets Playoff series would be really dope, I just took a look at the whole Playoffs picture and not really the topic here, but we can have NY-Boston 1st round, NY-Indiana 2nd, and NY-Miami ECF. Im not even a Knicks fan but that scenario would be crazy

back last night game, seems like Wilson Chandler is back on track now, 24pts 8-9 shooting, 2steals, 1blck, in 19min (!) of action

  • spit hot fiyah

yeah Chandler seems like he is finding his form, in the beginning of the season he looked like he forgot how to play basketball. with him playing better the nuggets might start talking to some teams about gallinari and iggi’s availability

  • Sérgio

i really don’t know if its better to have an injured Howard playing or no D12 at all. For Christ, the guy was playing with no effort whatsoever, clearly afraid of getting more hurt. If its gonna be this way, put the freaking Robert Sacre, who will at least play with some passion.

  • Happy

So no mention of Kobe’s zero assist revert back into his old self? Granted, guys weren’t knocking down shots but he didn’t exactly attempt to pass the ball much anyway.

  • Max

    Karate Sacre!

  • Max

Denver has got to be one of the fastest, most athletic teams ever, right?

Looking at Dwight’s body language last night and after being called out by Kobe telling him to play through the shoulder injury, I would be really surprised if he resigned with the Lakers. I noticed Kobe had to revert back to shoot first Kobe since none of his teammates were hitting shots when he passed it to them. Side bar when was it ok just to make the playoffs for the Lakers?

  • Max

Back when their third best player was Luke Walton?

if Dwight can’t physically run or make any explosive movements because of his back, then there is no reason for him to be playing. The team isn’t making the playoffs. Howard’s back has to be the problem. Or his relationship with Kobe. The focus on his shoulder is just a media creation, no way that’s the actual problem.

  • http://twitter.com/stepfdelaghetto Stepfan Raiford

Of course he would right after I waived him from my fantasy squad.

  • http://twitter.com/stepfdelaghetto Stepfan Raiford

Why in the world did D’Antoni have him in the game in the 4th? I don’t understand this team.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

there is stuff going on under the surface. Dwight cares about his reputation more than anything. I think “quitter” is the main adjective he’s tryna avoid.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Kobe 2004: “I probably won’t play tomorrow night or until I’m ready. But I don’t need Shaq’s advice on how to play hurt…”

  • Nigel

Man, Phil is probably thanking his lucky stars that he didn’t get involved with this bunch….

  • RayJr

-Dwight looked slow, uninterested, and lazy. Now this can be because yes he is really in a lot of pain, has “checked out”, or both. Doctors cleared him to play but either way if he’s playing or not he is only going to be giving 50% because of those reasons so with no Pau the playoffs are a far FAAAAAAAAR grasp now.
-D’Antoni seems to forget that he is the coach sometimes by letting teams run off 8, 10, 12 point runs and then subbing or calling timeouts. Drives me crazy.
-Did any of us honestly think the Lakers would have a chance last night with Pau out and MORE drama unfolding between Dwight and Kobe?
-What else was Kobe supposed to do last night? We knew he would come out swinging against Boston and although he had zero assists he did shoot well. A lot of the Lakers were shooting well to help the cause.
-Last but not least, would Metta please stop shooting so many 3s!?! For the love of god someone make him STOP!!!
    OK that is all.

  • Happy

    Wow.

  • RayJr

I agree it has to be the back. He looked awful last night. No explosiveness at all and thats not a shoulder issue.

  • RayJr

    At this moment they are.

  • RayJr

That was the story of my fantasy football year lol. Drop a player then he goes off the next game.

  • RayJr

They wouldn’t have played this bad this season, whined about playing time or touches, and would have played through pain with a legend like Phil Jackson at the helm.

  • http://twitter.com/stepfdelaghetto Stepfan Raiford

I agree. All of this should have been kept in house. All these quote from kobe about Dwight. The players only meeting. Then ten minutes later it’s released to the press what was talked about in that meeting. These are just some of the issues. Another issue is that Kobe and Dwight just aren’t a good fit. LA wasn’t even his top choice when he left Orlando, maybe because he had a feeling something like this will happen. Dwightmare the sequel but this time I don’t blame him. I blame his body for betraying him. Btw I predict that he signs with the Rockets during the off season.

i highly doubt Morey takes on Dwight after what he had with Yao. And the fact that they already have Omer Asik.

  • Caboose

I saw someone talking about Playoffs….some fearless predictions:

    1 Heat over 8 Bucks (4-0)
    2 Knicks over 7 Celtics (4-2)
    3 Pacers over 6 Nets (4-1)
    4 Bulls over 5 Hawks (4-3)

    1 Heat over 4 Bulls (4-2)
    3 Pacers over 2 Knicks (4-2)

    3 Pacers over 1 Heat (4-2)
    ———–
    1 Spurs over 8 Jazz (4-1)
    2 Thunder over 7 Rockets (4-2)
    3 Clippers over 6 Grizzlies (4-1)
    5 Nuggets over 4 Warriors (4-1)

    1 Spurs over 5 Nuggets (4-1)
    2 Thunder over 3 Clippers (4-3)

    1 Spurs over 2 Thunder (4-3)
    ———–
    Spurs over Pacers (4-2)

That’s right. Lakers don’t make the Playoffs. Heat don’t win the East. Thunder don’t win the West. Come at me, everybody.

  • Caboose

LISTEN TO THE SHOCK EXCHANGE, HE’S COMING BACK TO THE MAGIC!

    lol

One Gripe: —- Utah is about to trade Al Jefferson (and i know you’ve known that was gonna happen for over a year), i doubt they finish with a better record than Portland.

  • playa

yeah because kobe should be only passing the ball just like rajon rondo should be only scoring, kyrie irving blocking shots & steve nash rebound, what’s the point in doing what you’re best and all-time great at,do stuff to please critics,it makes sense all right.

I can see the Pacers giving MIA a tough time but I can’t see them winning when MIA has HCA (IND is a terrible road team, 11-16 so far on the road)
I can’t see the Nuggets beating the Warriors 4-1 based on the fact that DEN is a terrible on the road (10-15). That has the makings of a 7game series.

  • Happy

From what I can decipher from your anti-punctuation paragraph, I’m guessing you read my comment and didn’t understand a very basic concept. The concept? Basketball players should probably try not to play 1 on 5 if they expect to win.
