Derrick Rose Denies Waka Flocka Flame’s Claim That He Will Play Tonight

An amazing thing happened after the Chicago Bulls’ shootaround today—Derrick Rose and Tom Thibodeau were forced to address a rumor created by the rapper Waka Flocka Flame that Rose would make his long-anticipated season debut tonight against the Miami Heat. Both denied that this was in any way true (never listen to Waka, kids). Per the Chicago Tribune: “Continuing to sound like someone prepared to sit the entire season, Derrick Rose said missing Wednesday’s high-profile showdown against the streaking Miami Heat is painful. But so is missing, say, a game against the Charlotte Bobcats. ‘Every game is tough,’ Rose said. ‘Knowing that it’s the Heat adds on a little bit. But I have a lot of confidence in my guys and the coaching staff.’ [...] Rose has been fully practicing for five weeks but said he ‘feels the same,’ which means he experiences pain in his surgically repaired left knee when his workload increases. Rose knows this is normal and has suffered no setbacks but doesn’t sound like someone prepared to play in the final 12 regular-season games. ‘Just taking my time and that’s about it,’ Rose said. ‘Been the same way for a couple months now. Like I said, it’s in God’s hands. Every day, I’m waking up just trying to be the best player and produce every time I step on the court. Who knows when?’ [...] Waka Flocka Flame, a rapper, had predicted Rose would return against the Heat, setting off a social media stir. Rose seemed flattered by that recognition and Thibodeau, who probably only listens to rap if it’s spliced into his game film, tried to keep a straight face in saying he knew of Waka Flocka Flame. ‘The rapper you’re talking about?’ Thibodeau said, when told of the rapper’s prediction. Questioned if he truly knew who this rapper was, Thibodeau smiled. ‘I hear the guys talking about him,’ he said. Told the rapper has a song called ‘Hard in Da Paint,’ Thibodeau didn’t miss a beat. ‘I’m for that,” he said. ‘I like him more now.’”

Waka still has better sources than Chris Broussard.

Man, in Chicago folks are beginning to get a bit upset with Rose. His ‘can do no wrong’ image is fading.

It’s not because he’s not returning, it’s cause he refuses to just say “look most likely I’m not returning”. He’s started a storm that’s getting bigger & bigger til’ he stops playing 1 on 1, sitting on the bench, and other things to get this city excited.

So ‘The Return’ is morphing into ‘The Return-to be continued’.

  • Slick Ric

I feel the same way, I’m fine with him not playing for the rest of the season but he should give a definitive answer for his teams sake. They can’t continue to be distracted by this issue, he has handled it poorly.

  • Draak Grafula

I feel for these rappers nowadays man. Not easy comming up with original bad-@$$ names. They have it tough…

D-Rose just needs to make a decision. Its a win win for you no matter what. If he comes back, no matter how he performed the city will love him for trying. If he just says no and sits the season out, the city will hang itself on the full strength return of their chosen one next season. He just needs to make a decision and stand by it

‘I’m for that…I like him now’ HAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA most hilarious thing I have read all day

  • Max

It’s not a win win, say he re-injures himself because he doesn’t feel confident and doesn’t move like he should.

Imagine if this leaks into the Post season..

  • DRose4Life

thats nonsense honestly, in my opinion this kid has earned the benefit of the doubt. I truly believe he is not ready, and why would he rule out the possibility of playing at all? What if the playoffs start and he feels “normal” again, I don’t like the criticism that he’s getting, as fans we have all seen enough to know what he is made of. He’s just not ready yet, no point in pulling the plug though, who knows how he feels in a week, only God knows.

  • Redd

    The season is almost over..lol.

He is ready, he’s healthy, he said so himself.

  • ratguts

broussard’s sources are the comments on slam. i don’t know how many times i’ve read something somebody said here, only to later hear it repeated verbatim on espn in the afternoon. hey chris, say “ratguts” next time you’re on.

  • ThaWindy

You will never know until you get out there. It’s the final stage of rehab.
He can sit out and injury himself in a preseason game.
He should only play because its the final step in his rehab. He stands the same chance of re injury.
I don’t think he’s coming back this season and thats fine. It’s not my career. But at the same time it would be nice if he just said so.

  • Max

He’s lacking confidence in himself, so he won’t move like he usually would, which leads to injuries. Not saying he would re-injure his knee, just overall it’s not good.

His body is never going to feel “right” until he gets his confidence back. Only way for him to get his confidence back is to get out on the floor and ball… If you’re nervous, then say you’re done for the season and go for it next year. That’s fine. Just dont leave the city and organization wondering. They will back him no matter what. Thats what I mean by win win situation. If Houston has been patient with Royce White, the Bulls will be patient with D-Rose. Trust me on that

Forget everything and everyone else. Rose comes back when he wants to. How everyone feels about it means nothing. Their feelings mean nothing. Their thoughts mean nothing. Anyone who is upset with him now in Chicago or anywhere else should keep their mouths shut. He is the Bulls. He is Chicago. Without him, they’re a 1st round exit team. A great defensive team with no idea how to score more than 90 points a night. With him, they’re championship contenders. How he’s played for them, every fan who’s criticizing him now should be ashamed of themselves. The last time he played a full season, only 1 team stood in their way and he was the youngest MVP in the history of basketball. His mind is his problem right now. He should shut it down for this season, but he wants to play and he’s struggling with convincing himself that he’s okay. His last memory playing in a game was him tearing his knee, it’s not exactly easy to just throw yourself back out there I’m sure. Fans should back off the kid.

    :0 . . .

    mouth open

I can see how unclear my point was now that im re-reading my original post, Lol. My bad

  • roscoe

CHI as an organization is being careful w/ their young superstar.

imo, its not rose’s decision or he’d be playing. no doubt in my mind.

CHI fans need to calm down & watch for the spring sun to come out.

  • JL

I’m not saying he is being a prima donna, but by your same logic he can basically do everything that he so desires because he is so important. What about being professional? And I actually do agree with him taking it slow, since last year he came back too quick and didn’t last very long before he was out again. But your reasoning is flawed. So if his body is ok he shouldn’t try to convince himself and believe in himself? What about the next time his knee flexes the wrong way and he feels like he’s not ready. Does he sit out again? Or believe in himself?

    Das it mane, das it

  • http://twitter.com/_DFrance DFrance

That’s why his azz has been demoted to sideline reporter.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Professional…like how he’s behaved since he’s been drafted? What is he doing that’s not professional? He’s earned the right to take his time and come back only when he feels like he can. My main point is people shouldn’t be upset with him because he hasn’t been able to convince himself yet. It’s not their careers. It’s his. The fact that some people are now beginning to question his toughness is laughable.

You just replied a racist comment with an even more racist comment.

  • Max

    Is my comment really racist?

  • Perry the PlatyPteranodon

… yeah, that was the joke.

  • pposse

i thought i read on here that if D Rose doesn’t play at all this season, insurance pays his salary and not the team, anyone have any insight on this? Maybe this is effecting the return, i know if i was in management i would tell him to sit out for the season to save some dollars..

  • Redd

But the point made was, now he has a whole off season of not knowing.
