Derrick Rose Still Has Knee Soreness

The latest update from Derrick Rose, if one can call it that, is that he’s still not ready to suit up for the Chicago Bulls with 16 games remaining in the regular season. Rose admits that his surgically repaired left knee continues to be sore when he trains. Per the Chicago Tribune: “Whenever I’m ready, I’m going to be out there,’ Rose said after Thursday’s morning shootaround at the Berto Center. Sounding very much like a player who may sit all season, Rose talked encouragingly about what his game will look like whenever he returns. As for when that is? ‘It can be tomorrow where I feel I can play next game,’ he said. ‘Nobody knows but God.’ [...] ‘Bad,’ Rose said, when asked how much he wants to play. ‘But knowing that my health is the biggest key. I’m only 24 years old. I got the whole future in front of me. I’m just trying to take my time. When I got my teammates behind me and they see how hard I’m pushing in practice and I’m seeing how hard they’re fighting for me on the court, it makes me want to go harder. It makes me want to be out there more too. But you have to look at the big picture.’ Rose said he has suffered no setbacks but has endured normal pain as his activity level has increased. ‘Still about the same where you warm up a little bit, be loose, then activity picks up and it gets back sore,’ Rose said, when asked if all pain is gone. ‘It’s going through that. I’m just getting used to my activity picked up a little bit. Just getting used to running, playing 5-on-5, doing everything I used to do.’”

the daily rose update. great! let the next rose artcile be when he makes his debut

  • http://twitter.com/SupermanayrB B!

He tore his ACL! He didn’t get a damn paper cut. SLAM putting still in the title like this isn’t a surgery that doesn’t take a year to heal from (Brady, McN…..ever mind). Let the man return when he’s ready.

  • bike

Well, this does sound a little better than he’ not mentally ready. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

  • robb

I agree. Let us now when he’s ready. It’s useless to read everyday he isn’t ready and how he’s gotta take his time and blablabla. Let the man heal and let’s talk about him when he’s ready to go.

  • robb

    *know

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Don’t do it. We’ll see him in October. Hopefully, the Bulls have that piece that Derrick needs to help him create offense for that team by then. It sucks for TNT and ESPN that they are showing these nationally televised games now because they thought he would be back by now. No one wants to see these Bulls who can’t score play on national TV. Some ugly games to watch.

my knee is sore after I play too…..

  • LakeShow

How long ago did you have surgery?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nathan-Shane-Long/580141409 Nathan Shane Long

    Derrick Rose is done

  • Redd

Are you done being an idiot?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

pretty much the chances of developing tendinitis and experiencing continual soreness from a surgery are like 90%. so, idk if this is just being said to get people to stop questioning him or not. but soreness is to be expected, at least until he’s playing on it hard everyday.

  • danpowers

the longer rose takes to get back, the more respect should be given out to shumpert for returning already

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

WHY? Shumpert is hurt, you realize that?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

and people heal differently. nobody should credit anybody for anything to do with anyone else when it comes to surgery. or anything medical for that matter.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nathan-Shane-Long/580141409 Nathan Shane Long

    stop it

  • danpowers

nothing serious, he is cleared to play

  • danpowers

i didnt mean to put rose down. i just mean if you have an injury which is severe in a way that some people need like a year or more to get back, its quite impressive how someone is able to work his way back after such a short perdiod of time. thats not only dna, its also mental toughness and work ethic (i dont doubt that rose has both tho)

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

they think it’s just scar tissue breaking up. but Shumpert also said he doesn’t like the feeling.
    .
these are the same doctors that gave James Dolan the “ok” on Stoudemire, both to sign his contract, and to play, multiple times.
    .
So, pardon me for not really caring if the Knicks team doctor’s gave Shumpert the ok. We’ll see how his knee holds up.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

he’s been awful. It’s not like SHumpert is back as the same Shumpert he was. His knee is healed! good for him. But i’m not giving him any extra credit for coming back as a lesser player. and clearly lesser, at that.

  • MasterSplinter

Your acting like Shumpert has half the role thar Rose has. Or the same style of play. Comparing a young MVP to somebody who has never even made an all star game just doesn’t make sense. Every athletes’s body and role are different. The amount of pressure on Rose when he comes back is too much more to make that comparison.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Shumpert isn’t half of what he was before the injury. No explosiveness at all. At this point, he’s received more coverage for his hairstyle than he has for his play. Rose is coming back when he feels like it, not when doctors told him he could play again. There’s a difference in just being able to play and being able to play well.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

You need to stop it with the idiotic comments.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nathan-Shane-Long/580141409 Nathan Shane Long

    really guy

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nathan-Shane-Long/580141409 Nathan Shane Long

Derrick Rose had a nice two year run of being the best point guard in the league he stole the MVP award from Lebron in 2011 made the bulls a “legit” title contender but yet it was all for not and rose career is OVER!!!!! the fool was never be the same and he knows that

  • KevinJohnsonFan

    More stupidity. Go sit down.

  • LakeShow

Where do you get off writing this bull sh*t? How do you have any clue how he’ll perform or how he matures as a ball player? You don’t. Shut your mouth.

From experience, when you break up that scar tissue that first pop you feel makes you think something is wrong. I popped my scar tissue while hooping and I sat out for the next couple days, but I came back and there was no structural damage.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nathan-Shane-Long/580141409 Nathan Shane Long

I speak nothing but fact on d-rose he got mvp because the media brainwashed and influenced everybody to hate Lebron James in 2010-2011 besides that no other superstar player in the league to suffer a torn ACL has came back better than before all suffered a fall from grace Arenas,Mcgrady,Redd,Roy,Stoudemire so with that said go hide under your bridge YOU F’N TROLL FAKE ASS LAKERS FAN dont bother to reply either

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000166716900 Anthony Darnello Taylor Jr.

STAT had a couple great ALL star years after his surgery he really didn’t break down until Melo got there. Roy was fighting genetics and IDK about the other guys. But Jason Kidd has still had a great career after having that ACL repair. Dajuan Blair has no ACL’s period and he is playing in the L s anything is possible.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000166716900 Anthony Darnello Taylor Jr.

Shumpert should rest the rest of the season see how he feels when the playoffs come. Kid has potential to have a very solid career he still has so much in front of him no need to risk it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000166716900 Anthony Darnello Taylor Jr.

Well to be fair a lot of Shumpert’s game relies on his great athleticism and lower body strength.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jay.brodes Jay Brodes

that is not good and i think he should sit out the year at this point! if his knee is sore why rush this! if he is not comfortable there is no sense in him being out there. he has a set back and than he is out half of next year! get well!

  • ratguts

keep in mind that not all acl tears are alike.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nathan-Shane-Long/580141409 Nathan Shane Long

phoenix would have won the championship in 2005-2006 season if Amare was 100% but after his very first surgery he was never the same highflyer fast forward to now amare is washed up and melo took “his” team from him B-Roy was behind Kobe,Wade years ago at SG but Portland was never a threat after his ACL tear both his knees went bad and Dajuan Blair rides the bench now

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000166716900 Anthony Darnello Taylor Jr.

I told you BROY didnt count because he had a genetic disposition.PHX had a rough one in 06 sure but STAT went on to average between 22/9/1.5 blocks putting in approximately 33 minutes per game. FG% range between 50 to a career high 59% and topped 80% FT average twice and stayed in the 77-79 range most of the time. all this between 07 and 2011 seasons with the exception of the 09 season where he played 53 games he averaged around 78 in the other seasons in that span. So yeah he fell off but all his best seasons were AFTER the surgery and his Micro-fracture surgery was worse than Rose’s ACL tear. So why don’t why don’t you get off his scholng Mr.Long

  • Ses

There is no benefit to him coming back now. Not for the team or him. The Bulls will make the playoffs a low seed and will have to compete against much better teams. 16 games are not enough for him to be ready for the grueling playoffs (especially if they drop to 8 seed). He should, sit this season out, Keep practicing and come back strong next season.

  • LakeShow

Now, why’d you go and have to make me cry…

  • Ben Ireland

The guys who commented on this before me were way too nice about it. You’re a f$*#ing twat. D Rose is far from done. Get outta here.

  • danpowers

he started awful but he looks better by every game he plays right now. he might hve come back a little too early but i really respect his effort.

  • danpowers

true. but i still have the utmost respect towards any comeback even from the slightest acl tear. one or two decades ago an acl tear meant instantly “end of career” to most asthletes.

  • danpowers

just see him playing right now in toronto and he looks pretty fine

  • danpowers

regardless of your role. all these guys in the nba are playing tremendous roles compared to “normal” human beings and the pressure under which they play has to be something else. i was just speaking positively about smbdy coming back. i didnt mean to say anything negative about rose. no need for bulls/rose fans in here to start b*tching
