Dion Waiters Might Need Left Knee Surgery

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced that guard Dion Waiters will sit out for at least one week, and he may end up undergoing left knee surgery. Per the Akron Beacon Journal: “Dion Waiters will miss at least a week with loose cartilage in his left knee. He will rest and receive treatment on the knee and an arthroscopic procedure to clean out the knee hasn’t been ruled out. It’s another crushing blow for a team already without its top two players in Kyrie Irving and Anderson Varejao, and now the defending champion Miami Heat are coming to town riding a 23-game winning streak. Coach Byron Scott said Tuesday the Cavs will have to sign another player in the interim. They already have an open roster spot. Waiters said the knee has been bothering him the last few games. He played the first quarter of Monday’s loss to the Indiana Pacers, then was shut down. If he is determined to need a knee scope, his season could be finished. [...] The Cavs have come close to beating the Heat twice before in Miami — including once during this winning streak — but Waiters and Irving both played in the game a couple of weeks ago. They will be without their top three leading scorers on Wednesday. ‘Anything can happen,’ Scott said. ‘Just like boxers. James Buster Douglas against Mike Tyson. Nobody in the world thought it would happen.’”
