George Hill Unhappy With Pacers Fans in Loss to Lakers (UPDATE)

UPDATE: The Indy Star notes that Hill was not talking about true Pacers fans. He meant bandwagon Indy fans. Read the full transcript of what Hill said here.

Just like the Indiana Pacers had suspected all along, Kobe Bryant gave it a go despite a severely sprained left ankle. He couldn’t move, however, and sat out the final three quarters and didn’t score. No matter. The Los Angeles Lakers still pulled off the 99-93 upset, and with Laker Nation making its collective voice heard all night long, Pacers guard George Hill ripped the lack of fan support for the team in their own building. Per the Indy Star: “All the Pacers needed to do was lower the lights in the stands, put Jack Nicholson and Denzel Washington in the high-priced seats and you would have thought you were across the country at Staples Center. Just like any other time when a marquee team comes to Indianapolis, the fieldhouse was full of fans wearing purple-and-gold shirts. That didn’t sit well with Hill inside the locker room after the game. The Pacers starting point guard sat at Paul George’s locker putting on lotion and talking to center Roy Hibbert loud enough so that the media could hear what he was saying. ‘Somebody has to say something,’ Hill said as Hibbert tried to get him to calm down. Hill wasn’t done talking after making his way across the locker room to his own locker. ‘It sucks,’ the Indianapolis native said. ‘It was 70-30 out there (in favor of Lakers fans). These are the same people that want autographs. … We’re out there in the community doing what we’re supposed to do on and off the court. Something has to change. … It shouldn’t feel like an away game, especially with an important game like this. That’s what it felt like.’”

What is worth noting about this? Pretty predictable jab at Indiana.

that is why despite his ankle injury, he tried to play 12 excruciating minutes.

he played for the fans that paid to see him.

fans would be disappointed if he did not play or showed up in street clothes on the bench. much like g.pop did with duncan and his stars.

sadly though, hill should realize and accept the truth that – kobe has fans. That indiana fans saved their pennies for this day – when the lakeshow visits Indianapolis. probably the only time they would see the lakeshow in the flesh.

A roster swap with the Wolves would work cause they’ve got to be the whitest team since the sixties.

nope I’m a fan of the team, and less him as a player. Although I respect his work enthic. It does make sense though since many fans have actually now grown up watching his having a major role on the Lakers. Actually now that I think about it, you are probably correct, although I still see alot of lakers jerseys which are no Kobe jerseys at games.

I”m not sure I go with the Yankees being the top team only because recently they have been just trying to buy teams rather than build them from the ground up. Sure the teams are good and the MLB allows that, but it just doesn’t feel as authentic. They do have some players that have been with them for a long while though.

Exactly, the Celtics won the most when there were only like what 8 teams in the league? The Celtics had a big lull from the 80′s till 2008. The Lakers were always there.

maybe they should move to seattle…
