Golden State Warriors Co-Owner Joins Fight to Keep Kings in Sacramento

Vivek Ranadive, part of the ownership group for the Golden State Warriors (he serves as a limited partner and vice chairman), is a last-minute addition to the crew bidding to keep the Sacramento Kings from moving to Seattle. Per the Sac Bee: “Although city officials said they’re confident they’ll get a deal done on a new arena, there isn’t a lot of time: The plan must get OK’d first by the City Council, and Sacramento has to pitch its proposal to a group of key NBA owners in less than two weeks. Vivek Ranadive, an Indian-born software tycoon who lives in Silicon Valley, was unveiled as the man who will lead the bid for the team itself. Already a part owner of the Golden State Warriors, he takes the reins from East Bay health-club financier Mark Mastrov. A source familiar with the situation said Mastrov – whose initial bid was described as inadequate by the NBA – will remain a major partner in the bid. The third investor in the Sacramento effort, Beverly Hills billionaire Ron Burkle, was continuing to negotiate a deal with city officials on a new arena at Downtown Plaza. But in a somewhat unsettling development for the city, officials were unable Thursday to complete the so-called term sheet outlining the city’s subsidy and other elements of the deal. The document was supposed to be released to the public in the afternoon. The item is still scheduled for a City Council vote next Tuesday. And even as negotiations continued Thursday evening, City Manager John Shirey plowed ahead with the first of three scheduled public forums at City Hall to discuss the arena project. ‘I’m still optimistic that we’re going to get the points resolved,’ Shirey said. ‘I do not have that feeling that we’re not going to come together.’”

after the lockout it would surprise me if a g-state owner wanted this only because traveling cost is lower to Sacramento than to seattle

f#$k off California, you have 3 teams…. we got 0 up here in the Pacific Northwest…. 0, you a$$holes….. (Portland doesn’t count they’re like 7 hours away) we had my hometown Grizzlies, and Seattle (1.5 hour drive from Vancouver) had the Sonics….. now they’re both gone…… and it’s wrong to take another city’s team, but that’s exactly what was done to us….. yes I speak for both Seattle and Vancouver residents, we both stand together on this issue because we’ve both been robbed of two very very good teams……

Sacramento just let it go. The papers have been signed the money has been paid. Sacramento has one of the worst attendance in the NBA. Its simple Seattle is a better city than Sacramento. The Kings will move to Seattle, but keep wasting time if that makes you feel better.

    yes….
an NBA franchise in Vancouver would be very profitable now that the dollar is on par especially. In the last 10 years Vancouver has become plagued with people with money… it’s why our cost of living has risen during this time among the highest in the world per capita…. Right now if we got the Grizz back, they would turn an even bigger profit than what they’re doing in Memphis by a noticeable margin….

We won’t get the Grizz back, but our best hope is for Seattle to get a team, then at least we can drive an hour or so down through the border and go catch some games

I refuse to believe the SEA is a better city than SAC. I refuse.

SAC has a great downtown area and is the fine capital of the State of California!

I mean sure, if you like coffee… SEA is the deal, but i just can agree. I won’t!

It’s a little bit of common sense, Seattle is easily a better sport city than Sac town, I mean look at the amount of Pro franchises they have compared to Sacramento which only has 1….. anyway, don’t wanna sound like I’m bashing Sacramento, I still feel for them about those Playoff runs against the Lakers that they obviously got robbed from lol…..

now that I think about it, damn…. what the hell are Sac town fans gonna watch when the Kings leave… Seattle you got pro football, pro soccer, pro baseball and soon to be pro basketball….. Sacramento will be left with minor league shenanigans when the Kings leave…..

Aren’t the Warriors owners trying to move their team from Oakland to San Francisco? Why is Ranadive even involved with the SEA-SAC tomfoolery?

  • chaloner

San Diego was robbed with two teams as well, Clippers and Rockets.
