Kobe Bryant to Keep Playing Through Painful Elbow Injury

Kobe Bryant doubled over in pain last night after aggravating a right elbow injury, but he says that the severe pain won’t keep him off the court. Despite 30 points from their injured leader, the Los Angeles Lakers’ quest for a Playoff berth took a hit as they fell 122-105 to the OKC Thunder. Per the LA Daily News: “Bryant had suffered ulnar nerve contusion on his right elbow, essentially an injury to his funny bone. But there was nothing funny about it. The Lakers initially considered him ‘questionable’ to return, but Bryant provided more images of his determined attitude only minutes later. The Lakers’ 122-105 loss Tuesday to the Oklahoma City Thunder at Chesapeake Energy Arena may have showed Bryant scoring 30 points on 8 of 19 shooting. But he lacked a supporting cast. Even worse was his post-game recognition on the injury’s severity. ‘Every time you try to bend your elbow and extend it, Bryant said, ‘there’s a little resistance and a lot of pain.’ Still, Bryant made one thing clear. ‘I’m going to keep playing,’ he said. ‘This is a critical part of the season to say the least.’ The Lakers (30-31) remain 2½ games behind the Utah Jazz (32-28) for the eighth playoff spot, while falling three games behind the Houston Rockets (33-28) for the seventh seed. [...] How can his teammates ease the burden? ‘Just knock down some shots,’ Bryant said. ‘They need to make the shots they have available to them. If they don’t, we have to get second chance opportunities.’”

it would be great if the lakers could just transfer all their collective injuries to Bryant, then everyone would be healthy and kobe would still play

It’s especially painful after a turnover. (Jokes aside, props to KB24)

He’s SO faking it again, right JTaylor?

  • bike

He said he can postpone the pain from a shot to the nuts…how come he can’t do the same with his elbow?

  • RayJr

Yeah like John Coffey from The Green Mile who could take away illness and pain.

  • shockexchange

Not only does Horry Jr play through the pain, he has to constantly tell you about it. The Shock Exchange thinks that’s called “public relations.”

People saw that he was playing through an injury – its not like everyone isn’t aware to the point further PR is required.

He’s also done this with injuries to his fingers, shoulder, wrist, etc so I doubt he’s doing it for attention.

“But he lacked a supporting cast.” Lakers scored 105 pts. Nash had 20, Artest 16, Clark 13, and they got 20 from 3 players off the bench. The only player who struggled with his shot besides Bryant was Dwight who`s dealing with lingering back and shoulder injuries. Lakers had only 16 in the 4th and Artest had 10 of those. Bryant scored 2 in the 4th on (1-5) and Dwight 0 pts on (0-0) in the 4th. In short, the supporting cast showed up. Unfortunately, the Lakers gave up 122 pts on the defensive side of the ball.

Just loved how the OKC fans boo’d an INJURED Kobe when he was leaving the arena. They are about as classless as the Jazz fans when they boo’d Fisher cuz he had to return to L.A. for his daughter’s health. People, it’s a GAME…PLZ

unlike dwight, he isnt trying to get people to feel sorry for him.

  • robb

he’s just trying to set an example. That’s all.
