Pat Riley Says Danny Ainge ‘Needs to Shut the F**k Up and Manage His Own Team’

Nothing like some good executive-on-executive beef. Friday night, Pat Riley provided the media with a simple little message for Celtics GM Danny Ainge (who has voiced his negative opinion of LeBron’s thoughts on the refs this week): STFU. Via ESPNMiami: “Miami Heat president Pat Riley forcefully responded to criticism leveled against LeBron James by Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge on Friday. ‘Danny Ainge needs to shut the f— up and manage his own team,’ Riley said in a statement released through a Heat spokesman. ‘He was the biggest whiner going when he was playing and I know that because I coached against him.’ Ainge told Boston radio station WEEI earlier this week that James had no cause to challenge officials for failing to classify fouls assessed to Chicago’s Kirk Hinrich and Taj Gibson on James as flagrant. ‘I think the referees got the calls right. I don’t think it was a hard foul,’ Ainge said then. ‘I think the one involving LeBron against [Carlos] Boozer, that was flagrant. I think the officials got it right. I think that it’s almost embarrassing that LeBron would complain about officiating.’ Ainge quickly responded to Riley later Friday. ‘We’re both right. LeBron should stop complaining and I should manage my own team,’ Ainge said, according to the Boston Globe. Ainge then reiterated his earlier comments, telling the Globe: ‘And I’m right. LeBron should be embarrassed by how he complains about the calls he gets.’”

Lol Pat Riley’s a freaking beast.

  • Yknot

Danny Ainge gets the “Gas Face” 3rd Bass style. Yo Hammer shut the …. up!

  • hillbilly

I’m kinda torn on this one. As a lifelong UK/Boston fan, I hate to side with either guy.
Danny’s right, though. LeBron’s insistence that the ‘horse collar’ foul was flagrant is just ridiculous. It was just a hard foul. Let it go.
But, Riley’s also right. Of all the people to criticize a player for whining about bad calls, Danny Ainge should know better. Back in the eighties, if a defender barely touched him, Danny would immediately start pleading his case to the nearest official and making that “you just kicked my puppy” face.

  • LakeShow

Why you gotta cuss Pat?? Haha, I love it.

  • anon

Daaaaammmn…a 3rd Bass reference in 2013? HELL YEAH.

Wow – It’s great that everyone is getting involved, but this should really be left to the league and Lebron. BUT…since this already happened, who do you think should STFU? debate is tied right now: sidewithme.com/debate/411

2 weeks from tonight C’s/Heat meet. Like to see Ainge vs Riley UFC style on the court before game or during halftime. Might be more entertaining then game itself.

“F*** the Boston Celtics as a staff label & crew & if u down with Celtics f*** u too” -Pat Riley. Hit ‘em up

Ainge better be careful before Riley has him sleeping with the fishes.

  • underdog

Seems like I’m the only one, who thinks an extremely successful and wise person, like Riley should be able to express his opinion to the media, without curse words. I get how he try to send a message and back-up his best player in the same time, but still, stay classy.

    “and f*ck KG”- ray allen

  • Allenp

    I agree

  • RedRum

I think by cursing he was trying to make a point. If he said ‘Needs to be quite and Manage His Own Team’ instead of ‘Needs to Shut the F**k Up and Manage His Own Team’ is anyone talking about this? nope.

  • Kadavour

yea, “random” cursing rears its ugly head in the NBA once again.

  • doughboy

rat riley is a piece of shit scumbag RAT , I love how everyone says he’s the man, hes a fuckin traitor and classless prick

  • fruizm

    Nice!

  • fruizm

    at halftime!

  • underdog

Yes, you’re right. And that’s sad, because that’s the same reason people watch the Jerry Springer show, and buy People magazine. Because trash, cursing and grossness sells stuff and make people listen up. It’s cheap, and it’s the easy way to gain attention, though. And I thought Riley has more class than that. I was obviously wrong.

The world has changed. The view on “curse” words with it.

  • Judith Johnson

David. I can see what your saying… Helen`s remark is impossible, on saturday I bought a new Land Rover Defender from having earned $6076 this last 4 weeks and also $10k this past-month. this is definitely my favourite-job I’ve ever had. I started this six months/ago and immediately brought home minimum $77 per hour. I follow this website, jump15.comCHECK IT OUT

  • rebart

I think Pat Riley needs to keep his filthy mouth shut.

  • rebart

I agree. There is no need for this kind of behavior at Riley’s level. Ainge was correct, whether anyone likes it or not.

  • rebart

Yep, I agree. This has become a classless, immature, foul-mouth, divided country. Lots of anxiety, thanks in large part to the Obama administration.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Hahaha, or maybe it’s been going that way since the first Bush was on office or Kennedy? Or maybe even the Revolution? You really have no idea. They are just words. Maybe way less people are afraid of the boogey man, or don’t care about judgmental people forming an opinion of them based on words just about everybody uses anyway. There is less privacy in the world today then there has ever been. Which, logically, would mean people are less prone to hide how they truly act/communicate. But let’s just act like its the fault of the Black Democrat in office who has done less to damage the image of this country then the previous (2) presidents before him. Because, well, what else are you gonna blame culture change on? Normal human progression? Please. It’s not like we don’t all sit around a fire and marry off our daughters at 12 while burning witches for the unrelated deaths of our other children or anything. .
Blaming it on the Obama administration is extremely ignorant. Extremely.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

You know if you don’t put words up on a pedestal then they don’t hold any more power then any other word right? It’s not like f*ck has a meaning like the truly deragatory words that we shouldn’t and people generally don’t use. Fornicate under consent of the king. Are you offended?

  • LakeShow

    Haha, well said.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

hey thanks friend. this topic really bother’s me. like really really bother’s me. if you have a problem with me using a cuss word in a non derogatory way, then you need to grow up. it’s just a word.

  • LakeShow

While I agree with that portion also, I was referring more-so to just the naivety of acting like this is some how Obama’s fault(or any ‘persons’ fault). I laughed when people said that about Bush, and I laugh while people say it about Obama today. People really need to start thinking through a different paradigm because it’s not healthy to just monkey see, monkey do.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

oh yeah that is just plain stupid. if you type those words about any one person/leader/administration/group then you are essentially not using any of the thinking skills that you used to formulate the words that you typed.
    .
in other words, if you feel that way, like rebart obviously does above, you, for at least that moment in time, are an idiot. a real life idiot. not just the idiot that i get mad about and overreact and insult. An idiot. One that needs help.
