Reggie Evans Got 22 Points and 26 Rebounds With One Good Eye

An eye infection wasn’t going to keep Reggie Evans from dominating the Portland Trailblazers last night, as he led the visiting Brooklyn Nets to an impressive 111-93 win. Per the NY Post: “The power forward’s right eye was half-shut because of an infection that started in his left eye, but he didn’t need full vision to abuse Portland’s front line in a 111-93 dismantling of the Blazers in the Rose Garden. Evans posted a career-high 26 rebounds and tied a career high with 22 points, complementing 28 points from Brook Lopez as the Nets (42-29) improved to 4-1 on their eight-game Circus Trip. They also moved to 13 games above .500 for the first time since the end of the 2005-06 season. ‘If it was golf it would be a problem, but a basketball is a pretty big ball. He can see the basketball – that’s all he’s gotta see,’ Nets interim coach P.J. Carlesimo said. ‘It helps his shot. He’s shooting better. Nah, but you see it when he’s not on the floor. It’s an adventure.’ Evans’ left eye was originally scratched on March 8 against the Wizards. It developed into an infection that affected and reddened both eyes, and his right one was so swollen the power forward didn’t participate in Tuesday’s practice. But he started Thursday after taking a pill and applying more eye drops. Then he filled up the box score. ‘I guess you could say I had it going,’ said Evans, who is averaging 15.5 rebounds per game in March. Evans began with 10 rebounds and nine points in the first quarter, while the Nets stormed out to a 37-17 advantage.”
