Shaquille O’Neal Wants to Help Curb Gun Violence in New Jersey

Working alongside Governor Chris Christie, Shaquille O’Neal is looking to slow down the rate of gun violence in his home state. Per the Star-Ledger: Christie spokesman Michael Drewniak said the governor huddled with the 7-foot-1 Shaq before escorting him from his office and taking photos with visitors and staff. Drewniak said Christie told the crowd O’Neal ‘had good ideas’ and ‘we’ll do something with him.’ Christie later took to Twitter to send out a photo of Shaq dwarfing him while shaking hands with the note, ‘You know it’s a fun day in Trenton when @shaq stops by for a visit.’ State Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa was at a church in Atlantic County today, the latest stop in his statewide program to buy unwanted guns from residents, no questions asked. The buyback there will last until 8 p.m. Saturday. O’Neal, 41, has become involved in civic affairs since his retirement from the National Basketball Association. He said last year he was trying to bring an NBA team to the Prudential Center, which the Nets left for a new home in Brooklyn. But so far, those plans have not materialized.”
