Utah Jazz Finally Waive Raja Bell

At long last, the Raja Bell nightmare in Utah has come to an end. The Jazz severed the toxic relationship with the 36-year old guard. Per the team website and the Salt Lake Tribune: “he Utah Jazz announced today that the team has requested waivers on guard Raja Bell. Following the move, the Jazz roster now stands at 14. Bell (6-5, 210, Florida International) did not see action for the Jazz this season. [...] The Jazz will pay Bell’s whole contract to create roster space. Have been expected to add D-League guard Travis Leslie since Friday … Despite being waived by Jazz today, Raja Bell ineligible for playoffs with another team. Needed to take buyout by March 1 … The Jazz never wanted to give Raja Bell an inch in this process. Felt it would reward him for bad behavior.”

    …OR NOT

oh yeah. He got paid his full salary to do nothing. They got him alright.

  • jazzcritic

His whole fight with Corbin was because he wasn’t playing him enough. He does want to play basketball and he’s running out of years.

  • MasterSpinter

He is a poor man’s Bruce Bowen.

Obviously not as much as he wanted his money. Otherwise they would have had a buyout.

  • psuedohoax

He could have taken a buyout AT ANY TIME this season and joined a contender. He chose not to. He chose money (and it wasn’t alot of money) over winning. That’s who he is.
    Oh – he’s a terrible player btw.

  • RunNGun

Raja Bell won. He sat around and got paid and didn’t even have to suit up. LMAO

  • LobCity

Well his money was guaranteed so him getting paid paid was never the issue. The issue was getting more playing time or being waived so he could play for a contender. He didn’t get more minutes with the Jazz, didn’t get waived in time to sign with a contender and now doesn’t have the opportunity to collect playoff checks. All things considered, Sounds like they stuck it to him.

i can appreciate the Utah Jazz mgmt for making a statement.

but idk how much wisdom there is in not getting anything in return for a player that could help playoff teams.

I guess the Salt Lake City Pride got the best of the Jazz front office.

    What are Jazz fans saying?

Nobody was gonna give up anything for him. Maybe like a 2nd round pick that’s top 50 protected. They shopped him around and nobody wanted him. I bet there were a few teams ready to sign him for a fraction of the league minimum if he was waved but I don’t think anybody wanted him bad enough to give up ANYTHING at all.

  • Chukaz

Bowen was a destructive defensive force (like avery bradley or tony allen on steroids). Bell’s never been that kind of a defender.

  • Chukaz

He’s 36 and hasn’t gotten minutes in years for teams missing the playoffs. I bet you no contender will want a 37 year old slightly undersized 2 guard that hasn’t been seen regularly since before the suns traded him like 3-4 years ago. If your not a contender why would you want this dude to poison your young players with his bad attitude? Him not getting a buyout might mean the end of his playing career, or at least in the NBA.

that has to be a harsh reality for rBell.

seriously, thanks for that info… still for my two cents i would have done a deal even if it got me $1 dollar back, but I am a frugal person.

actually, I would take a bag of peanuts and bus pass too for rBell.

  • thesage

Yep time for Ron Ron to pack his bags
