Amar’e Stoudemire Expected to Miss Series vs Boston Celtics

According to Mike Woodson, the New York Knicks will likely be without forward Amar’e Stoudemire in their first round Playoff matchup against the Boston Celtics. (Center Tyson Chandler, meanwhile, is giving himself a clean bill of health.) Per the NY Daily News: “Amar’e Stoudemire (knee) was on the court briefly while the Knicks were shooting around in practice, but Woodson doesn’t expect him to return during the first round. ‘I think he’s going to be out. That’s my gut,’ Woodson said. ‘It’s kind of nice to see him on the floor.’ A documentary about the power forward, ‘Amar’e Stoudemire: In the Moment,’ debuts Friday night on Epix.”

honestly, if this wasn’t posted, i don’t think that many of us would even have thought about him missing the series. it’s like a given that he is not active

Him coming back now might not be needed for the Knicks anyway. They’ve been playing so well without him, and him and Anthony have never proven they can co-exist, unlike Smith and Anthony are co-existing now. STAT is a spare part.

    the forgotten one

Don’t remember the last time he played in a playoff series. It is generally the knees or a fire extinguisher. I remember the days when most people said Melo and Amar couldn’t coexist together and Melo should go back to Denver. Funny how things change and people realize hindsight is 20/20.

Are there any other players who have gone from MVP talk to almost irrelevant 6th man as fast as Amare without a crazy bad injury? Allen Iverson?

Meanwhile Denver has a better team.

Not to mention a max contract player.

True, but in some cases (like this one) I think sometimes recurring knee injuries can be even worse than one devastating knee injury..

well it would still be a luxury to have STAT as a “spare part.”

well, imagine him coming back for limited minutes around 10 a game behind chandler, martin and anthonyin the rotation. it wouldnt be too bad to have him out there next to chandler or martin to make up for his defensive shortcomings or next to copeland for an extra scoring push against other second units. further would his health issues justify drastically limited minutes. that’d be a luxury option off the bench for the knicks.
