Chicago Bulls Still Hopeful Derrick Rose Will Return in the Playoffs

by Marcel Mutoni @ marcel_mutoni

Having missed all 82 regular season games, there’s a growing belief that Derrick Rose won’t suit up at all until the 2013-14 campaign. We will soon be at the one-year anniversary of Rose’s knee injury, which happened in the Playoff opener against the Philadelphia Sixers.

Among Chicago Bulls coaches and players, the hope that Derrick Rose will join them at some point in the postseason, remains very much alive.

They’re not ruling out that he could conceivably even suit up in the first round matchup against the Brooklyn Nets.

Per the Chicago Sun-Times:

With growing hope expressed by teammates that Derrick Rose could step on the court for Game 1 of the playoffs, coach Tom Thibodeau kept that possibility alive. “It could be,” Thibodeau said. “He’s still not ready. We feel good about the guys we do have, and we just want to keep improving and let Derrick handle his rehab and just be ready for whoever we’re facing.” The Bulls closed out the regular season without Rose. He went through his usual pregame routine before the game Wednesday against the Washington Wizards. Joakim Noah has maintained all season that he thought Rose would play, and Carlos Boozer was the latest player to express that sentiment.

But it’s all up to Rose. If he reaches the point where he’s not thinking and just reacting, he’s a go. “Whenever he’s ready, we’re going to welcome him back because, obviously, he adds a lot to the team,” Thibodeau said. “It’s the same as [Noah] and Taj [Gibson]. They come back and they’re playing limited minutes, but it’s a big plus to the team just because of what their strengths are. All those guys are team-oriented, and it makes your team a lot better.”

Of course, Thibodeau adds that Rose has not informed the Bulls that he’ll be ready to play by Saturday. The working assumption continues to be that Chicago will go to war without him, for now.

There’s no telling how long the Chicago Bulls can last without their best player, but rest assured that the specter of Derrick Rose’s possible return will continue to dominate each game the rest of the way.

DEEEEEEEEEERICK ROOOOOSE BING BAM BOP SHA BAM!

  • KevinJohnsonFan

No need. See you in October D-Rose. Summer of work, training camp. Plenty of time to get himself back to 100%. He doesn’t need to come back and try to push this team almost by himself going against Deron Williams who’s playing like he did in Utah.

    2010 – The Decision
    2011 – The Melo-Drama

*Yawns* Just give it up already

If Rose had been back a month or 2, the Bulls would be the favourites in this series, hands down, they might have even stolen the 4th seed. But he didn’t. And unless he can come back and instantly contribute at least 15 & 5 this round, and up that again if they make the second round, then there’s no point, cause this team isn’t going anywhere.

    Because f*ck logic right?!?

  • Max

Than don’t click on the stories/ articles/ videos.
    Not that hard to do.

I’m a Nets’ fan… and even them sweeping the Bulls is crap

  • bike

Somewhere, Kobe is quietly reading this and thinking ‘Pu*sy. He doesn’t know how to postpone the pain. What a Weenie’.

  • Anthony Dixon

    what’s logic?

  • Anthony Dixon

    lol so its impossible?

  • http://twitter.com/impsawsm Impossibly Awesome

I thought everyone got the STFU memo about this topic?

  • Frank

I still have hope that he is going to play Saturday but Washington probably would have been the game to comeback if that were the case. Oh well as a fan just go along for the ride and cheer on my Baby Bulls and if he is back all that much better, but if he is not, well let’s do the best we can with who is there. Who knows. Maybe shock the world.

Either way, he’s never torn an ACL so he wouldn’t be in any position to judge another player and their pain tolerance or when they should or shouldn’t play again.

    Thank you.

No one made you put your eye on it in the first place.

  • Max

I’m not reading any of the DRose atricles and didn’t read any Dwightmare articles. You will be surprised how unannoying (lol) it really is.

    Re: Kobe

It’s game seven, San Antonio vs. Los Angeles…

The Lakers are on the verge of being eliminated from the playoffs in a most humiliating fashion. They are down by a thoroughly demoralizing thirty-four points with just a few minutes remaining in regulation. To even the most diehard fans of the purple and gold, all appears to be lost.
    Meanwhile…

In the Laker huddle, Steve Nash sits dejectedly with a towel over his face. Pau Gasol is cowering under the bench in the fetal postion and Mike D’Antoni is openly weeping. He makes a halfhearted attempt to draw up a play on his tear-stained clipboard and fails miserably, wondering aloud (and to no one in particular) what the housing market is like in Cleveland these days.

As Laker Nation hangs its collective head in shame, Dwight Howard is absentmindedly ‘planking’ at center court while Metta World Peace sits in the stands, sharing an order of nachos with San Antonio’s aptly-named, coyote mascot…”The Coyote”.

On the opposing sideline, Gregg Popovich looks bored stiff. Sleepy, even.

But suddenly (!) and without warning, a dark and mysteriously cloaked figure emerges from the Laker tunnel. He strides purposefully and unopposed past a motley assortment of vendors, skanks, slack-jawed gawkers and security guards.

As he nears the broadcast table, a hush falls over the crowd. It’s so eerily quiet that from twenty rows up, you can almost hear the soft, delicately-scented ‘queeeeeefffff’ of a Laker Girl. Maybe the cute little asian one with the juicy backside and the perky…ahem…(cough, cough)…

    But, I digress…

The lone figure stands silently and menacingly for several, angst-ridden seconds before finally reaching down and violently snatching the microphone away from a visibly trembling and (for the very first time in his life) speechless Stan Van Gundy.

Tossing aside his cloak with the devil-may-care flourish of a world class bullfighter, he reveals the sinewy, chiseled physique of a ferocious jungle cat. His face is streaked heavily with blood-red paint. His biceps are encircled with fringed leather bands. His lower jaw is jutting forward in a sort of angry, mentally challenged-looking underbite (think: Bubba Gump with PTSD). He takes in a deep, dramatic breath and in a low, rumbling voice utters but a single word…

    “Waaaaaaaaaarriorrrrrrrrrrrr!!!”

    (you know the rest)

  • danpowers

dude… dont we all in most cases? lol

  • LP

This actually may happen. If the Lakers first game is before the Bulls first game next season, Kobe possibly will be back before Rose…

  • danpowers

    cant wait for the memes

  • OneStep

News just in, “Chicago Bulls continue to blow smoke.” Yawn.

  • danpowers

that are no update. they r just repeating the same guesses and maybes we have been reading for months now. you could also ask why the dwightmare, melodrama or decision were annoying

  • Max

Than my question is, why are these repeating, same guesses and maybes annoying if you don’t read them?

if you could see my face expression as a reaction to your repeatedly asked questions, youd have your answer lol

    nah

    Goddangit internet.

  • danpowers

    indeed

  • http://twitter.com/Juukbox Aaron Jennings

Not impossible… Jus not likely. Nets are gonna win the series, jus a tougher matchup than ppl know. Bulls wont go away and they play defense.
