Deron Williams Says Nets Not Motivated By Trash Talk from Bulls

Taj Gibson and the Chicago media gave the Brooklyn Nets plenty of bulletin board material prior to last night’s must-win Game 5. According to Deron Williams, the trash talk didn’t affect his team at all (this despite Nets head coach PJ Carlesimo’s best efforts to get them angry.) Per the NY Post: “During the halftime show on the local broadcast of Saturday’s 142-134 triple-overtime loss in Game 4, a Bulls beat writer said that privately the Bulls thought the Nets were ‘heartless’ and ‘gutless,’ and that Chicago had wanted to face them in the first round. Interim coach P.J. Carlesimo showed his players the interview prior to their 110-91 win back in Brooklyn in Game 5 last night. But if it was supposed to fire the Nets up, that’s not exactly how Deron Williams said the team took it. ‘We didn’t need that,’ Williams said after scoring 23 points and dishing out 10 assists. ‘That’s not why [we won]. P.J. wanted us to watch it, and we were sitting in there after it was over like, ‘That’s it?’ What are we supposed to do now? [Yell] we’re mad?’ That stuff doesn’t mean anything. We wanted to win the game for us and for our fans and for a chance to extend our season. We didn’t want to go fishing. We didn’t want to be on TNT with the hats on, and Chuck talking about it.’”

    No passion..

  • LP

Maybe didn’t motivate Deron, but it has guys like Andre Blatche playing their hardest now…….i knew this would happen…we’re in for it now…

I wouldnt say its lack of passion. I think the message Deron was trying to get across with this comment was that they dont need any extra motivation. They know what’s at stake. They want to win and keep their season alive. No need to pretend like hearing that lights a fire when the fire is already lit. Game 2,3, and 4 shouldve been enough to get them going

“thats not why we won” – yeah you won cause Kirk wasn’t out there shutting you down! yall making Nate Rob turn into a two way player, he was clearly gassed by the end of the game. Let Nate do what Nate does and your season is over BK!!

  • JetSkiJohnson

kirk Hinrich does not shut down Dwill. hE PLAYS GOOD defense but Boozer and Deng are constantly around when he blows past him.. Relax

  • pposse

okay fine..i can’t help it its the playoffs, its all about being a fan right now! You can’t use the word ‘defense’ and ‘Boozer’ in the same sentence tho, thats an oxymoron.

  • JetSkiJohnson

true but his body gets in the way lol

  • pposse

his hands might get in the way, not his body, that mothaf**a don’t move his feet for anybody!

  • ThaWindy

The only thing I seen is kirk doing forcing DWill one way, using the sideline as an extra defender therefore shrinking the court. DWill just sucks. For people to even mention a guy as old as El Captain Kirk, sooo high off pain killers, balling on one leg playing good D on you is embarrassing.

He had 32 and 10 in the triple overtime game. And he had 23 and 10 this past game.
WTF are you watching? Hinrich plays good defense, but Dwill is still doing work. The biggest problem is that Wallance can’t shoot to save his freaking life so his man is constantly clogging the lane. And when Evans and Wallance play together it’s three on five and the Bulls know how to handle any team playing 3 on 5 on offense.

  • pposse

yeah but d will came up real short in 4th qtr and ot of the triple OT game. The 23 and 10 was mainly against Nate the Great Robinson.

  • spit hot fiyah

we want to believe that players in the middle of the playoffs don’t need any motivation and that the moment they are in should be motivation enough. but when the opponents start running their mouths i think it automatically is extra motivation on some level, at least for some

I’ve got to hold up my hand and say I was wrong man. The other day on a different thread I said your bulls weren’t seeing the second round and you disagreed, but I’m a game away from eating my words now!

  • pposse

stop your jinxing it! i’ve seen our team collapse before (last yr against the sixers). Game 5 was the one we needed the most, i am genuinely worried right now.

  • Caboose

Carlos Boozer has been an exceptional team defender the past 3 years. Exceptional.

  • Thawindy

I watched the games. He sucks. At play calling he sucks. At keeping his teammates involved in the game he sucks. Dissapearring on ya team. Making your teammates better. Your team scores like 8 pts in a quarter. He sucks. Making big baskets, he sucks. He had 23 and 10 against Nate Robinson. Nothing special. He sucks. At being a leader he sucks. On the reverse dunk!! He sucks. Barely got the ball pass his forehead. He sucks. Series over if Kirk played last night. He sucks.

  • http://twitter.com/apowellAdvocate Allen Powell II

Um, Kirk played in the first game when he torched Kirk. You realize that too, right?

  • http://twitter.com/apowellAdvocate Allen Powell II

He dropped 32 and 10! Granted he struggled later, but I don’t understand how 32 and 10 is meaningless.

  • pposse

alright for lack of better judgment i will be objective on D Will for just a second…here it goes…

It was disapointing to see a guy who gets 32 and 10 to literally comply with iso joe mode at the end of every ot and regulation.

With that being said @thawindy is right, D Will sucks! That reverse dunk was so ugly, must have been the most ugliest one of all time!

  • ThaWindy

Let me put it this way. In there areas that required mental fortitude, he sucks. I think he question himself being the best player on the team and it shows in his lack of confidence at times. I will cut him a lil slack becuz this is his first year with this team and it takes time to build chemistry. However given the tools that he has, he sucks. And if you can’t see it, then I don’t know what your watching when your looking at the game.

  • http://twitter.com/apowellAdvocate Allen Powell II

Actually it’s his second year with the team. And he doesn’t lack mental confidence. He is not a great leader, and doesn’t always support his teammates, but he’s always confident. Earlier in the year he was dealing with injuries and he pouted. Saying that “he sucks” is such ridiculous hyperbole that it isn’t even worth a response.

Iso Joe is what P.J. calls. If he breaks the play then he’s the problem.
