Former NBA Player Chris Gatling Accused of Illegally House Squatting

According to the police, former NBA big man Chris Gatling illegally squatted in a Paradise Valley home. (Word to Robert Swift.) Gatling, who made nearly $30 million in the pros, then allegedly tried to list the place on Craigslist, in an ill-fated attempt to collect some rent money. Per the AP, via Deadspin: “Chris Gatling is accused of breaking into a key box and living in the home from July 2010 to August 2011. A police report says the homeowners lived in California but had left the power on. A local TV station reports that he later listed the four-bedroom house for rent for $800 and called it an ‘Ex-NBA’ home online. Court records say that Gatling got a down payment from one potential renter but that another got suspicious and contacted police. Gatling’s attorney, Michael Alarid, said the case is a ‘misunderstanding.’ Nicknamed ‘The Energizer,’ Gatling played 12 seasons in the NBA, averaging 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Gatling, a 6-10 forward/center, made one All-Star roster, in 1996-97, and retired in 2002.”

Not a MISUNDERSTANDING.. I have proof cashed 2 cashiers checks for $800.00 each and has his signature and fingerprints plus have a signed rental lease agreement. This guy is a dirt bag along took money from Kids for a basketball camp/tournament cleaned out the bank account.

  • Ugh

It happens all the time, especially in moderately wealthy neighbourhoods. Nobody knows their neighbours, plenty of people are out a lot for work, plenty of people buy a home and don’t move in or even bother to rent it out. The whole, wide, wonderful world of squatting is just waiting for you guys to take advantage of. Look into it, it will serve you well.

  • Anthony

He was an All-Star in 96-97!?! (y’all sure?!?!)
