JR Smith Says the Boston Celtics are Lost Without Rajon Rondo

Following two consecutive, historically awful showings, it’s clear that the Boston Celtics’ offense is in total disarray (so far, they’ve shot 39.2% from the field in the first round Playoff series.) Following the Knicks’ Game 2 victory, JR Smith pointed out that Rajon Rondo’s absence is the biggest reason for the C’s struggles to score against New York. Per SI (via EOB): “The 23 points the Celtics scored in the second half was the fewest in the team’s playoff history, and you can draw a straight line from the lack of production to the ACL injury-induced disappearance of their All-Star playmaker. J.R. Smith called the Celtics ‘a little fuzzy up top on who they want to get it to and why’ without Rondo. ‘When Rondo is out there, they are in a certain flow,’ Smith added. ‘When he is not out there, they sort of don’t know who to go to or [what] plays to run. That’s a credit to a great player like Rondo. When he is in the game, he seems to know two or three plays ahead of what they want to do.’”

rondo is sitting back and laughing at all the people that were quick to say the c’s are better off without him, back when they were on that tear right after he went down

*in the words of one the worst rappers* TRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!

REBUILD!!! Stop trying to re-up with Jason terry’s and Chris Wilcoxs…..Trade Jeff green and Rondo for some draft picks and rebuild!!! AMnesty EVERYONE!

  • AJ

trade jeff green and rondo?? They’re young and part of the rebuilding process. Is this a typo? Did you really mean to say to trade them? If yes then I hope to god you kill yourself immediately

  • Rummy389

    He has a point.

i didn’t think they would be THIS lost tho.

  • LLC#12

Surely you mean keep them and trade everyone else?

  • spit hot fiyah

specially considering that rondo always raises his level of play several notches in the playoffs

it’s like the compass breaks in the second half

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

the gas light turns on with about 2 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. They have to expend soooooooooo much energy to get buckets. it’s awful to watch.

Media and fans of almost anything always believe correlation implies causation. It’s almost sad to think we understand this, yet fall victim to it. Every. Single. Time.

Didn’t you see how dependent the Celts were on mid-range perimeter shooting and scoring the last two years outside of KG and Rondo? Then they signed guys like Terry and Wilcox who simply don’t provide enough variety to help keep the pressure off of Pierce when Rondo’s not in the game.

It was a given that the Celts would break if Rondo or KG would be sidelined. I’m not surprised by how badly the Celts are struggling on O.

go look at how they played without Rondo last season……i’ll wait.
the thing is, Paul Pierce has dramatically regressed. And nobody is talking about it.

  • star

didn’t think jr smith was capable of making sensible, true, on the point statements like these. surprised

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Nothing but the truth. And the Celtics can’t do anything to him for saying it because Pierce and a hobbled KG aren’t enough to beat the Knicks.

  • Drig

They played one solid playoff contender team in that stretch: Cavs Twice, Wizards, Magic twice, Indy and Toronto. And two of those games involved the most inept offensive performances I’ve witnessed in my lifetime.

They got blown out by Mavs and Thunder when Rondo sat again. They didn’t manage to break the 100 mark barrier once.

PP has regressed. But Celts are missing Ray’s shooting touch a lot more than they care to admit. Plus, they didn’t shore up their rebounding or shot creators in the off-season to lift the load off of KG.

    i did say LAST SEASON.

my point is, Pierce slipped over to run the offense, and the team barely missed a beat. But now, he doesn’t have the ability to do that, for whatever reason. Seems like regression to me….

    Got it.

makes sense right? or am i missing something?

    It’s the playoffs…not the season

Oh thank you! I had no idea.
I wasn’t saying I thought Boston would win, just they wouldn’t be this lost. Exactly like the words in my comment say.

He was balling when Rondo first went down. I think he’s just gassed, like you said.

  • Ugh

He’s old and damn tired. They put the team in hock for a ring or two and now they have to pay the debt. Don’t be surprised if both PP and KG retire at the end of this season, because there’s nothing keeping them on the court now but money. Boston is done and they’re ancient.

And then WTF are they going to do with a no-shot PG and a bunch of role players?

  • LakeShow

You didn’t make this easy enough.

  • Comment_System

lol dude stop posting. Trade Jeff Green? aka the one guy who has been playing his butt off? I would rebuild with those two guys. The celtics has the blueprint to create another championship winning team (like Detroit had, but forgot).

  • LP

Just joking, but i would continuously dangle Rondo for trade bait…..I don’t think Jeff green is signed through too many more years…..They can just sign him back and keep him …

  • Drig

One, it’s the POs. Two, PP’s been fatigued from carrying the team through the regular season as well. Three, he’s being forced to play like Kobe without anyone hitting shots from the perimeter and their frontline being unable to get enough offensive rebounds.

PP has slipped on O this season but I believe it’s the lack of other easy scoring options on the Cs that’s hurting them. I’m actually kinda disappointed in J.Green. I thought he’d be able to step up in this series.

  • Drig

Disappointed in J.Green is in terms of the impact he has had so far on this Cs team on O.

  • Datkid

JR smith is right… but it’s foolhardy to give the celtics extra motivation. very foolhardy.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

I know it’s the playoffs. I said they were gassed. And your explanation of why Pierce isn’t doing what he did when Rondo went down last year sounds good too me.
