Julius Erving Wants the Sixers to Let Andrew Bynum Go

Things have not gone well in Philadelphia this season, but Sixers fans were reminded of better times as Julius Erving and the rest of the 1982-83 championship team were honored at halftime of Sunday’s 91-77 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Dr. J, who works as a strategic adviser for the Sixers, seems to think the current squad should move on without soon-to-be free agent center Andrew Bynum. Per the Philly Inquirer: “On Bynum: ‘Coming here over the course of the year multiple times but not being in the room I don’t know what the total conversation was,’ Erving said. ‘I know what the net result it. The net result is Robert Parrish’s old number – zero, zero. So we have not benefitted one degree and I guess he has. But I think if he’s not here you are going to free up a lot of money and money talks in the NBA,’ Erving said. ‘Washington and Lincoln can’t play the corners for you but they can get you somebody that can play the corners. We need somebody to play the corner and the middle for us. It’s going to be costly but the Bynum situation is going to be one of total uncertainty for another year.’”

not knowing if a guy you are building around is going to play kills a team. Downgrade for a player that’ll play 75+ games a season helps with chemistry and that translates into wins.

As a Magic Fan i’m so happy the sixers gave us a promising rookie in Mo Harkless and the Most Improved player in Nic Vucevic (13 and 12 per game!!) but at the same time Andrews knees screwed them over and I feel for the phili fans

  • D_Nuggets

Exactly. And if the guy you are building around is a player who, though injured, is present at team events, supports the team from the sideline and so on, it’s not that bad. But this is Andrew Bynum, one of the most childish players in the L, who has handled this whole situation very poorly all season. This sucks for Sixers fans.

they are in a really tough position. if they max him out they basically reward him for sitting out the whole year, and if the let him walk tey lost Iggy, vucevic and harkless for nada

  • Redd

You mean the fans who cheered during Rose’s injury?

When a chip certified “LivingHoopsLegend” speaks take his advice.

    Don’t think, ACT PHI.

Andrew Bynum should sign with the Magic this offseason, they need stars and they need to sell tickets, he’d be the “guy” in Orlando and would fill in the void of Dwight Howard. They’d be a playoff team next year and Bynum would fit in great with Mo Harkless, Tobias Harris, and Nikola Vucevic.

Seems what’s needed for Philly is an honest, expert, objective assessment of Bynum’s knees. The track record for this guy is so bad right now one has to wonder if he will ever be able to play full strength again.

Bynum has what I mentioned before is “Lamar Odom Disease”. When you have been living and playing for L.A.. Everything is good, you’re still in contention to win a chip kinda, bright lights, celebs, palm trees and all that. Philly aint like that. Dallas wasn’t like that for LO either. Drew has his doctor that says he can’t play because he doesn’t want to. It will be different if Miami or New York pick him up for cheap next season.

    Doctors Orders

The Magic don’t necessarily want to be a playoff team next year with the stacked 2014 draft coming up and a good shot at a high pick. They also have more cap space for the summer of 2014 as well

you mean… those guys like the bulls fans who cheer about flagrant fouls on lebron james? ;)

You mean like Knick fans who……actually have a reason to be excited for the playoffs this year…..yeah…totally told that guy. lmao jp

  • danpowers

that was a cheap shot mate ;)

  • Redd

Didn’t realize flagrants were equivalent to ACL injuries, thanks. It was still poor taste & disappointing but certainly can’t be compared.

But that’s cool, not like Knick fans haven’t succeeded in being the most disliked fans in the NBA ever.

  • The Philosopher

    Miami.

  • danpowers

just sayin that nobody is “innocent” when it comes to poor sportsmenship every once in a while

  • Max

Yeah, Miami or NY will definitly pick him up for cheap, it’s not like no team is going to offer him some money.

Agreed…I know I myself am guilty of that….I attribute to online gaming jp and you know I had to give it to a Knicks fan. I am a Lebron fan after all. Seriously though you guys are tough this year I do not think we will lose but it could be scarry.
