Kentucky Guard Archie Goodwin to Enter NBA Draft; Willie Cauley-Stein and Kyle Wiltjer to Return to UK

With an overloaded recruiting class coming to Lexington next fall, for weeks eyes have been watching current Kentucky players to see what decisions they’d in regards to next season. Yesterday, point guard Ryan Harrow transferred to Georgia State, and today, freshman guard Archie Goodwin announced he will forgo his sophomore year and instead enter the NBA Draft. Goodwin was the team’s leading scorer at 14 points per game, and garnered Freshman All-SEC honors. Also announced today was that Willie Cauley-Stein and Kyle Wiltjer will return for their sophomore and junior seasons, respectively. UKAthletics.com has the details: “‘Willie and Kyle believe it is in their best interest to return to Kentucky next season to achieve those dreams, and I fully support their decisions,’ Calipari said… ‘Although I really wanted Archie to return for his sophomore season, I fully support him choosing to pursue his dreams. He has the drive and desire to be great and I will continue to do everything I can to make sure he succeeds in life both on and off the court… I believe, with another year of hard work and competition, they all can take their games to the next level. I look forward to seeing them all grow into young men.’ Goodwin, a Little Rock, Ark., native posted 25 double-figure scoring games and had five outings with 20 or more points. He ranked second on the team in assists (87) and steals (35). ‘This is something I’ve dreamed about my entire life and I feel like the opportunity is there for me to play at the next level,’ Goodwin said. ‘I will stay in Lexington to finish my schoolwork this semester before continuing to pursue my dream. I’ve loved my time at UK and want to thank Coach Cal, the staff and my teammates for helping me get where I am. I especially want to thank the Big Blue Nation for all their support.’

one word…bust! good player.could use another year! good luck! he is going to fail! not a hater just stating facts!

  • spit hot fiyah

    poythress better stay

I doubt he’ll be a lottery pick so technically he won’t be a bust. He could use another year but with that incoming class his minutes wouldn’t be close to what they were this past season so this might be his best move rather than transferring like harrow did.

Not gonna say he should have stayed because the Harris twins are the backcourt for next year but he’s not ready for the league. No one on this year’s team is besides probably Noel. But none of them are guaranteed starters going into next year either so it’s definitely a tough situation to be in. Be a mid 1st round pick this year and a “project player” or risk getting less playing time, & being a later pick next year but a more ready player. I think Harrow had the right idea transferring but sitting out a year isn’t exactly gonna help your draft stock either. Goodwin will be the second coming of Lance Stephenson IMO. Great in HS, underwhelming in 1 year of college, and eventually he might be a solid pro. Good luck to him tho.

    They are gonna be stacked!

    Those are not facts tho.

Harrow should’ve stayed at N.C. State and rode the inconsistent CJ Leslie train to the NBA. Now 2 transfers and 2 years sitting out are going to cripple his NBA dreams.

I could see the first five picks of next year’s draft be the starting five for UK.

I’d stay…..f*** who’s coming in, try to take my spot if you can, Harris Twin…..(I say this and to date, i haven’t seen this Harris twin play yet…i could be wrong)

  • Stevethecannon

All the players you listed are starting for there teams except for teague but he gets some decent burn for a rookie. So they are not busts at all

Those guys are busts? Are you high? Teague might be, but he was a late round pick. Wall has been ballin out since he got back from injury, Reke is solid, and Cousins is a future all star. So you don’t know anything about basketball, but yes, Archie will end up in the d-league for a while, but has potential. That’s getting educated.

He’ll be a late 1st rounder, so hard to call him a bust, but he wouldn’t be in the first round next year with a much better draft class, and probably coming off the bench

You really need to revise your definition of bust.

Either you are one of the most legendary trolls I’ve ever seen on Slam or you really need to use Google a lot more.

Boom or bust, I can’t wait to watch next year’s Kentucky squad.

Nah. Jabari Parker & Aaron Gordon aren’t attending UK.

  • LP

Why not stay? You guys are so weak minded. Just because Harris Twins are coming in, he automatically should leave? Worst case, he splits minutes with the guy on a top 5 team …… DWaiters was a lottery pick off the bench…. If he’s good as he thinks he is(I think he’s ok), why not stay and work on your game instead of going to the league unprepared??? Obviously he won’t stay, but he had options…..

wall has been showing off just for a max contract he does not deserve tyreke has regressed since he stole rookie of the year from jennings and lost his spot to Isaiah Thomas and cousins is the most immature jackass in the nba that has serious anger problems going after tv announcers and fellow teammates

Leave a message…Nathan Shane Long is a troll!
