Mike Dunlap Fired By the Charlotte Bobcats

In a somewhat surprising move, the Charlotte Bobcats announced today that first-year head coach Mike Dunlap has been let go. Per the press release: “Rich Cho and I conducted our season-ending review and met with Coach Dunlap to reflect on this season. As an organization, it was decided that we needed to make a change with the head coach position,’ President of Basketball Operations Rod Higgins said. ‘We want to thank Mike for his contribution and wish him the best in his future endeavors.’ Dunlap was hired as the fifth head coach in franchise history on June 20, 2012 and posted an overall record of 21-61.”

they actually got of to a good start, then it was downhill from there. probably the worst roster in the league though. maybe gordon wasn’t the only one who had run ins with him

(Bobcats owner’s voice) “Phil or SVG wouldn’t dare take a job with a perennial loser. Who can we use as cannon fodder? Byron? Brian Shaw? Avery Johnson?”

I mean, he really did improve the team this year versus the year prior…

Phil and SVG have more than “cut their teeth” with low-level, thankless teams and jobs. All of the guys you mention have been handed professional jobs and had both positive and negative success with them. Shaw has not had a hc job, but he walked right into a NBA assistant coaching position. Hell, SVG got fired because of a spoiled goofball and replaced by a guy with no head coaching experience. So, you can look at the NBA as the best of the best, but it doesn’t mean they have the best coaches. Plus, and more to your point, the Bobcats will try to hire a white dude b/c everyone else in the entire organization for the most part is black. Except for Byron Mullins, the 9 foot tall 3 point specialist.

How dare you come on here and try to “out-shock” the Shock Exchange? You’ve gotten his dander up!

They’ll go after Phil, calling it.

It’d be an interesting full circle effect. Phil Jackson’s star player hires him to be his team’s head coach.

He improved the team all around but I bet he was fired for mostly player relationship issues.
