Monta Ellis Reportedly Set To Opt-Out This Summer

Monta Ellis is expected to join the 2013 free-agent class this summer by exercising his early termination option, giving up a guaranteed $11 million salary in ’13-14, according to the Racine Journal-Times: “As the Milwaukee Bucks season winds down, it appears Monta Ellis’ days in a Bucks uniform are numbered as well. At least, that’s the prevailing sentiment of some Ellis acquaintances. They claim Ellis, the Bucks’ potent-scoring guard, has indicated to them that he intends on opting out of his contract after the season and becoming an unrestricted free agent.”

Good for both of them. Bucks can’t and won’t win win Ellis and Jennings. And clearly Ellis goes after cash.

  • LLC#12

Can’t see Ellis ever contributing on a contender

  • Jimmy

    going to memphis

  • srojas

or maybe a better team? Pretty whack assumption to make there buddy.

  • S.Rojas

Or maybe he just wanted to go to a better team? Pretty whack assumption to make there buddy.

Bulls need to find a way to get him

  • Drig

He can be instant O off the bench on a contender. Ala Nate.

i can see him go’n 2 Memphis or Philly

  • spit hot fiyah

maybe that too, but he is clearly going for a long term deal, which means more cash.

  • spit hot fiyah

i have a hard time seing it. they need shooters (or a very good shooter) his % is terrible. also, not a good defender, Memphis emohazies defense. and the new ownership doesn’t seem like they want to take on any big contracts (got rid of gay’s, and Ellington and speights) but the nba doesn’t make a lot of sense so he will proabably sign with memphis

  • Redd

Nate Robinson can do what he does.

    Lakers Should Get Him.

Wonder if the Clippers could afford another scoring guard coming off the bench. That would be a lot of offense on one team.

  • IDOT

Ellis would be a good 6th man on a contending team but he doesn’t see his self as a 6th man. If only this was the 80′s where undersize guards like Joe Dumars dominated.

  • mike

Poor milwaukee , seems like there best all trying to leave, id be surprise if him and jennings can find someone to give them max contracts

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Not consistently. No comparison between Monta and Nate. Nate is hit or miss, feast or famine. Monta is a poor man’s Allen Iverson.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

    not surprised

  • Redd

Na, Nate has done more with less minutes & less shots taken.

Give me Nate over Ellis, easy.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Sure, if you’re looking to sign a 3rd string PG, take Nate. But if you need someone to help D-Rose score and create for his teammates, Monta is the guy without question. If D-Rose had been healthy this season, Nate would have struggled to get off the bench or he may not even be with the team. There’s not a GM in the league who would sign Nate Robinson over Monta Ellis if they had the money for both.

  • Caboose

Watch the Magic throw crazy money at him. Marcus Smart, Monta, Afflalo, Davis, Vucevic with Tobias, Jameer, and Harkless off the bench. Not a TERRIBLE team…

  • KevinJohnsonFan

If they could rid themselves of Granger and convince Monta to take less money, George Hill, Monta Ellis, Paul George, David West, Roy Hibbert would be a Pacers lineup that could give Miami trouble. All Indiana’s missing is that kind of scorer.

  • Redd

I never said that, but I did say Nate is my choice. Nate is way cheaper & does the same things Monta does. Not to say Monta isn’t better, but Nate is the cheaper player & at this point more efficient & gives you more than you pay for.

  • Monta the money or the rings??

Its simple opt out sign on for a long term deal that’s what he is looking for I guess the kobe incident scared some people…He could still stay with the bucks because what other team will let him be the man-contenders won’t let him be that(Look how much better golden state became without him and letting curry lead the team 6th seed vs 8th seed). This isn’t to say he won’t leave but more so will think really long about it unless he really wants a ring and change of scenery though-bulls,grizz,pacers or some other team that is just a scorer away from making the next step…

    Monta’s not taking less money.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chris.callihan1 Chris Callihan

Maybe as 6th man scorer later in his career (when he’s cheaper)

  • http://www.facebook.com/chris.callihan1 Chris Callihan

That would be a really stupid move

  • monster_nw8

Chicago needs to make a move.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Van Gundy just made a great point about Nate and why he isn’t really worth it if there’s a better option. The immaturity is the biggest thing. He does what Monta does, he’s just not as good at it and he’s a headache after a certain amount of time. They’re both 43% FG shooters. But Monta is a top 10 caliber scorer. Teams pay for good play, they don’t pay for immaturity especially for a guy who’s been in the league as long as he has been.

  • Redd

He’s not immature, was, but isn’t any longer.

Been watching him all season, what makes him immature?

  • KevinJohnsonFan

He’s been on two teams that weren’t close to winning anything. If he’s smart or has any smart people around him, he’ll at least consider it. If he wants to be on a good team for once.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Getting a technical because he tried to go at Joey Crawford when everyone in that arena on Thursday night and everyone who has watched him referee games knows that he’s quick with the whistle. Those kind of things show immaturity. 5 teams in 7 years. Obviously there’s something behind that. Teams do their homework.

  • Redd

That’s not immaturity dude..at all. Knicks were trying to punk Jimmy & Nate stepped up. You need that, someone to not allow a team to get pushed around.

You act as tho he’s the only guy to get a tech for sticking up for a teammate. You have no point with the immaturity thing bud.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

5 teams in 7 years. Explain that. Traded to multiple teams easily. Waived and released.

  • Redd

And that in turn means that he sucks? Despite dropping 35 points & at times carrying a injury ridden team as the 2nd string PG?

Now you just sound dumb for being so naive, not to mention you have no argument since I agreed Ellis is better but in my opinion I’d take Nate, on a team close to the repeater tax.

But enjoy arguing against absolutely nothing.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Never said he sucks. Just said there’s a reason for 5 teams in 7 seasons. It’s ridiculous to take him over Ellis unless you’re looking for a 3rd string erratic PG. “Give me Nate over Ellis easy”. That’s what you said. If you want a 3rd string PG, take Nate. Anything else? I’ll take Monta. We know you’re all Bulls everything. But taking Nate over Ellis for anything unless you need some security at the PG position on the depth chart is wild.

  • LP

    Go to sleep

  • LP

    I can’t believe I’m seeing this…Nate over Monta….wow.

  • Redd

You seem sad, go to sleep.

Hey Monta Ellis, if you opt out from your Bucks contract, please come back to the Warriors and form a formidable backcourt with Stephen Curry!
