Paul Pierce Still Angry With Ray Allen’s Decision to Leave Boston

They say time heals all wounds, and maybe it does, but Paul Pierce is gonna need a little more before he gets over Ray Allen’s decision to bolt Beantown for South Beach. Via the Boston Herald: “Almost nine months have passed since Ray Allen joined the Miami Heat, and Paul Pierce still hasn’t talked to his former teammate. As Allen discovered during Miami’s March 18 visit to the Garden, Celtics fans can be an aggressively unforgiving lot. Pierce doesn’t consider his own feelings about Allen that extreme. But as the Celtics captain admitted this week in anticipation of last night’s game against the Heat, he’s still not ready to put Allen back on his calling list. ‘One day when it’s all said and done, I’m sure we’ll talk about it off to the side,’ Pierce said when asked if he was capable of forgiving Allen for joining the Celtics’ bitterest conference rival. ‘But not right now.’ Pierce has this much in common with Celtics fans. He still can’t conceive of Allen’s decision. ‘It definitely hurt me,’ Pierce said. ‘Say we play the Lakers for the championship, and two years later I go and sign with the Lakers. That’s the equivalent of what he did.’ Allen, told of Pierce’s comments last night, quietly nodded. ‘I miss playing with Paul, and being his teammate,’ he said. ‘There’s a lot of sentimentality from me being there and walking with those guys. That doesn’t change. I wouldn’t take that away from him. I respect him feeling that way. Those feelings are justified. I’m not on his team anymore, I’m not helping them win. His feelings are hurt, but he knows, he understands. He and I can look at each other and exchange a glance, because he knows what I had to do. He knows.’”

    ok, now move on

  • The Seed

Ray messed up, He still doesn’t get the minutes he wants and at least with the Celtics, he was loved and helped them win a ring. Ray messed up his career. I am glad Paul is upset, I would be too.

that’s what happens when his replacement is shitty. if Terry could give them at least 14 15 points a night it wouldn’t be an issue.

“I jus want some dick! I jus wanna have fun!” – Chris “I Like Men” Bosh

  • RedDragon10

Yeah Ray messed up because he went to a team actually competing for a championship. He definitely messed up his hall of fame career for actually contributing on a championship caliber team.

Potential to be the worst slam comment of all time

I don’t blame Ray Ray for leaving. The Miami heat look like they are the most fun and exciting team to be on. Making videos, they look like a college team. Unlike Boston a locker room full of bitter old guys in wheel chairs. KG is always yelling at everyone, Jason Terry talking about how he hates in the League. Doc Rivers never has a voice yet he’s always trying to preach.. Plus south beach..

  • RedDragon10

Because I told the truth? Actually, I’m a Lakers fan, fool. By the way, the caps unlock button is the same as the caps lock button. And this ain’t twitter.

Don’t you guys find it hard to fathom joining your rival team whom you lost to back to back years in the playoffs, most recently a bitter seven game series?

  • http://twitter.com/StainlessReal Alex Henein

I don’t get it…. They tried to trade him last year, yet they still wanted him to stay?

  • RedDragon10

I understand the pain that Pierce feels but look at in the point of view of Ray Allen. He’s having fun and he’s winning. I just replied to the guy that said that he “ruined” his hall of fame career because he joined Miami. I wouldn’t call the chance of getting a second ring as “ruinous” to Allen’s career.

  • MikeC.

Unless Ray wins a couple rings with the Heat, he may end up in the HOF and not have have jersey retired by any team he’s played for.

  • RedDragon10

Caps lock doesn’t have anything to do with grammar fool. And contrary to popular belief, the word “and” can be used to start a sentence, just like this one.

  • initbruv

Calling someone gay in the 21st century isn’t an insult. You might as well have called him a vegetarian.

Only paying attention one day in fourth grade will cost you.

  • Caboose

Paul is acting like the b!tch ex-gf who can’t accept that you found someone better.

  • http://www.facebook.com/evan.boland Evan Boland

I wouldn’t say he ruined it. But definitely tarnished it. Joining the team you lost to because its an easier way to grab another ring is pathetic. I wonder if he thinks riding bron’s D**k to another chip aint adding anything to his career.

  • The Seed

That’s my point, Seattle can’t, Bucks won’t. Celtics will not and Heat will never. That’s the Breaks!!

  • RedDragon10

Tarnished it? Didn’t KG join Boston because it was an easier way to grab another ring? We all know he wasn’t winning anything in Minnesota. Besides that fact, we’re all forgetting that Boston has dangled Ray Allen as trade bait multiple times. It came back to hurt them in the end.

  • HHHoops

Ruined his legacy. No team will retire his jersey. Will he win more rings? probably. but he’s tarnished his legacy as one of the good guys of the league, he abandoned his brothers then threw them under the bus

  • Edball

Boston would of never reitred Rays’ jersey even if he stayed.

  • zogs19994

  • Matt

Another ring? KG has one ring. KG was also traded to Boston he didnt sign there, he gave Minnesota everything he had and more

  • UNKNOWN<—-

Paul Pierce Can Be Angry With Ray Allen All He Wants. Ray Allen Is Now Starting Fresh Continuing To Play His Game. Paul Needs To Be Mature About And Just Move On. NBA Players Make Trading Decisions Every Year Because They Are Given The Choice. Their Decisions Not Others. And Just Because The Celtics Or The Heat Don’t Retire His Jersey Does Not Mean He Isn’t A Legend. He Has Broken Records And Made History That’s Legendary To Me. There Are Other Legends Who Have Done So Much And Have Not Gotten Their Jerseys Retired And Not Gotten Recognition. But Doesn’t Matter Because The Fact They Lived Their Dreams Is Enough.

  • RedDragon10

I mispoke. But he did give his OK in the deal to go to Boston.

  • Eddie Allen Powe

I feel sorry for Ray, he lost it with age. He got tired of Lebron and Wade chasing down his fast break layups. He honestly can’t start in this league and defend the other teams best SG. It would been nice to see him on the Clippers because he couldn’t beat Miami, and just joined them.

pp needs to get over it

  • MasterSplinter

zogs is the most consistent ignorant person posting on Slam. I REALLY hope your computer gets a virus.

  • MasterSplinter

I think that the celtics can. He was a big part of the only really productive Celtics era in the last 15 or so years. Plus one of the best shooters of all time. He deserves his jersey in the raptors somewhere. Either Seattle, or Boston.

  • MasterSplinter

Paul Pierce was just being real. He was asked how he feels and he said the truth. Both Ray and Paul are justified, which was clearly stated by Ray Allen. I’m surprised Steve Nash gets such a pass for doing the same exact thing, and i’m a Lakers fan.

  • MasterSplinter

Yeah……who would want to claim one of the best shooters of all time from the three and free throw, who helped bring your only championship in more than a decade, as well as a few sportsmanship and community awards on his resume….smh.

  • Ei_Ehm

Please stop calling him Ray Ray. He’s not your 4 year old son.

  • pposse

KG was the main reason they won the championship in 08.

    #Raysux who cares

  • UcantHandleTheTruth

It was only 9 months ago that he left the Celts for less money to go play for their enemy. Lets just say Paul doesn’t like being stabbed in the back. (’00)

  • Jinxcity

Thank you!!! Sheesh! I’m like do anybody remember this crap!

  • ATL dynamite

Attempts of shipping him away, proposals of underpaid contracts, KG’s cold shoulders and now this. Such madness and injustice have to stop.

  • whynx

It wasn’t Paul or KG, or even Rondo that tried to trade Ray Allen, it was the suits of the Celtic organization that were behind that. That’s business, and something every player has to deal with. Paul is justified in being hurt and pissed that he joined a rival team. Had Ray gone anywhere else, I doubt the coldness between them would have lasted this long or even been there to begin with. Fact is, Ray made his decision without considering the fate of the camaraderie b/w him and his old teammates. Rather, he preferred to spite the Celtics organization, even if it meant making less money, and be on a championship bound conference rival team instead. That’s just what it is so you can’t blame Paul for how he feels just as you can’t blame Allen for his ultimate decision.

  • john

I don’t blame Paul ray went to the enemy

  • http://www.facebook.com/rusty.shackleford.71653318 Rusty Shackleford

Paul Pierce is constantly in trade discussions. Seems like he wouldn’t recognize the enemy if they stabbed him in the back.

  • ubbrooks

so it would be ok for him to go to a shitty team, but not the heat, smh

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-DeArmas/100000325548192 David DeArmas

oh well he will have a ring with the heat, and you never know what the heat will do for him

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-DeArmas/100000325548192 David DeArmas

so it would be ok if he went to a shitty team, but its not ok for him to go to the heat and finish his career as a champ

  • whynx

It has nothing to do with how good the Heat are. It’s the fact that the Heat and Celtics are bitter conference rivals. Imagine if you were a soldier in the U.S. army, and you left to fight for the Cuban military or better yet, North Korea. You think the U.S. would be pissed at you because they had bigger guns?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/David-DeArmas/100000325548192 David DeArmas

    who is paul ray?

  • http://profiles.google.com/eman4277 Emmanuel Navarrete

    Don’t feed the trolls.

  • whynx

Not at all (Refer to my response below). People are human, and you can’t say Pierce shouldn’t be mad. He’s only mad because he considered Ray a friend, NOT because the Heat are better than the Celts. Ray has the right to finish his career as a champ, but he shouldn’t expect daps and hugs from his old teammates. He chose the potential for ring, over friendship.

  • john

The only 2 that’s in the column don’t be a smart ass

  • Dianna Surney

i agree with paul, it hurts but ray will always be apart of they brother hood!

  • http://twitter.com/raffiki93 Florian Amega

you’ve clearly never seen wat goes on in the Celtics locker room.

  • Smoke 42

They wanted to trade Ray he didn’t ask to be traded and he played with the Sonics for must of his career they didn’t cry grow up Paul this a business and KG really need to grow up because he played with the Timberwolves for must of his career stop damn crying this is business

  • That Dude

Please do not liken sports to war. Jesus christ.

  • MikeC.

    Celtics won’t retire his jersey.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

boston natives are selfish as hell.

  • nlruizjr

Not exactly, the Suns were not going to build around Nash, the writing was on the wall, sort of speak, That’s why Nash got an ovation from Suns fans when the Lakers played the Suns in Phoenix (sp?)

  • gil

raptors or rafters? and what about the 2011-12 team? did you forget that they took Miami to 7 games in the conference finals?

  • Rae

I never once heard PP or KG go after management for consistently trying to trade Ray.

  • Basketball_iQ

“tried to to trade him” – SO YOU’VE E HEARD! UNLESS you know somebody in the front office….
I’ve been following the celtics since 1991…. You know how many times I’ve heard such & such is on the trading block and NOT A DAYU THING HAPPENS??
Do me a favor and grow a pair. You and ray

  • Busta213

His prime wasn’t spent with the Celtics – he was a Buck then a Sonic – there was no guarantee he’d get his jersey retired there. As it was he was set to be a bench player while also battling Terry for those bench minutes.
Ray made a smart choice – he appears to be a great fit with the Heats guys. Where did being loyal to Boston get Pierce? Did he get to retire as a career celtic? Nope
