TRU Friends

Warriors coach Mark Jackson has forged an unlikely bond with rapper Silkk the Shocker.

by Adam Figman / @afigman

If you follow Golden State head coach Mark Jackson on Twitter, as we do—and as the Editor-in-Chief (and self-proclaimed biggest Mark Jackson fan on the planet) of SLAM certainly does—you may have noticed something curious taking place on the ex-NBA point guard’s timeline in recent months. Aside from plenty of Warriors talk and a bunch of excited-fan retweets, Jackson often corresponds back-and-forth with No Limit rapper Silkk the Shocker. And not in the way a celebrity would with a fan, or the way two celebrities with a mutual but distant appreciation for one another would. They communicate with each other the way close friends do. Silkk the Shocker and Mark Jackson

Probably seems unlikely: an NBA coach and a New Orleans rapper? Close friends? Well, yes: an NBA coach and a New Orleans rapper. Close friends.

“I’ve been knowing him for quite a while,” Silkk told us earlier this week. “He’s a constant motivator. What he stands for is unbelievable to me. I could see why the Warriors are having success, and I could see why the players adapt to him. Because, really, he changed my life, totally.”

As Silkk tells it, the two originally met in New Jersey, back in the mid-2000s when Jackson was calling Nets games for YES Network. After the ex-Knick point guard moved out to Los Angeles full-time at the end of the ’07-08 season—he was previously commuting back and forth across the country whenever possible—he invited Silkk, who spends a lot of his time in L.A., to visit the True Love Worship Center, the Southern California church where Jackson is a pastor.

“I really heard and understood what he’s really about and the values that he has,” Silkk said. “He’s a real pastor, man.”

The two hit it off, with the NYC-raised Jackson becoming a close friend and mentor of sorts to the Louisiana-bred MC. “From there, my son hung out with his son,” Silkk said. ”He treats my fam like [his] fam. Him coming from the basketball world, me coming from the entertainment world—he understood that part. He had to deal with some of the stuff I had to deal with. In the [entertainment] business you don’t really have a lot of friends. If you come into a situation, as a friend, the only thing I ask for is for someone to come into it with great motives, and not come with, ‘What can you do for me?’ I think me and him share that. Just getting to know him and understand him, you understand why he’s a great leader.”

Silkk, who days ago released the initial single from The Game Changer, his first studio album in almost a decade, says he’s a New Orleans Hornets fan “by default” but a Warriors enthusiast because of his relationship with Jackson. He spent some time with the Golden State organization during the ’12-13 preseason, meeting the players, even participating in a pick-up game with members of the team’s front office.

“I’m cool with some of the athletes on the team, and they’re all really cool guys,” the rapper said. “So now I’m a Warriors fan. I’m looking at stats, checking out trades. I’m 100 percent into it.”

This is absurd, yet still dope.

Always good to hear about peoples’ lives being changed by the Lord. Why do people feel so awkward about expressing appreciation to God nowadays? Strange times. Either way, great article, SLAM

Obviously, I think this is awesome. I also think the writer should stake his claim to being one of the biggest Silk the Shocker fans in the world.

Most people are having their ears, and eyes opened to the lies and deceit that the religious organizations have been pushing for so long now, and it is changing their mind on who, and what “God” is.

“God” cannot possibly be what we have been told he is. An invisible man in the sky, that loves you, but will send you to eternal torture if you don’t do what he says.

So my assumption is that people don’t want one to get the wrong idea when they are speaking of “God”, that it is not the typical “God” that momma and poppa taught us about as youngin’s. Minds are being opened and people don’t want to come down on “god” as “Jesus Christ”, or “Muhammad” , or Buddah, but rather an open minded approach that we don’t know who or what “God” is.

A cosmic deity, Mother Nature, or whatever a better euphemism is, i’m unsure, but this is my opinion as to why people don’t want to just “praise God” for all things. They don’t want people to get the idea that you are praising a certain “god” but rather the unknown deity that we all seem to feel is there.

Or maybe he’s embarrassed and doesn’t want to lose street cred.

  • Truth Talker

Great point- it’s impossible that all religions are true because they teach different theologies about the Origin of Man. Before jumping to atheism or agnosticism… I will say Islam in the only true religion because it provides belief based on Sensory Tangible Reproducible Evidences.

To acknowledge that there is a Unseen reality please read this line in the line in the holy Quran summing up man’s purpose (Sahih InternationalAnd I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. (Chapeter 51: Verse 56)

Now Jinn are a species that you can’t see but if you want to know if they truly exist look up Ruqyah. Also the devil (Iblees is from this species of Jinn) and is deceiving man from their absolute purpose.

A Couple hundred years ago everyone though the world was flat but did that make the world flat… No (just because you belief something doesn’t make it true)

  • shawnkemp4prez

The Bible says that “you can tell a tree by its fruit.” So Islam is the tree that roots your worldview? Women not allowed to show their wrists, jihad encouraged against infidels, world conquest for Allah? That’s pretty rough fruit.

Too much religion in the world, not enough relationship. All the rosaries, chants to Mother Mary, prayers toward Mecca, inquisitions, meditations with your legs crossed, etc do absolutely nothing for your eternity. We are all desired to be in relationship with The Almighty, not to be superstitious through religion.

Jesus commands that we love one another. He teaches forgiveness, patience, and serving others. I’ll take that. And most of all, He desires that you come to know him and be reconciled, because we’ve all done a pretty weak job with ourselves down here. Ask with a genuine heart if He’s real, and you will not be disappointed. Peace and love.

  • shawnkemp4prez

I agree with you Lake Show, there is too much religion clouding peoples’ minds. Jesus Christ desires a relationship, not superstition. And may I ask you a question? If God is just, then how could we possibly be left down here in the world without a guide for our path? Wouldn’t a just god give us instruction as a father instructs his children? Would a just father make his kids scramble around in the dark, trying to figure out through failure and heartache how to properly conduct life’s paths?
God Almighty has, in fact, given us a guide, because as our father, He loves us. He instructs us in His ways for our benefit and for the benefit of those around us. The Bible is the Word of God, and just because people have followed it for centuries doesn’t mean that in the year 2013 we are all too smart for it. That’s arrogance, and complete disrespect of anyone who ever existed before you. Do you look down on your own ancestors because they lived before you? Would you call your great grandfather an idiot because he didn’t have an iPhone?
Just because it’s new, doesn’t mean it’s true. And if it’s true, it’s probably not new. Ask Him if He’s real…ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Give it a shot. Much love to ya

  • LakeShow

I am leaving work now and don’t have time to get back to you, but would love to continue the discussion tomorrow if your on here. Have a good night mang.

  • Truth Talker

When examining a religion you must examine its source text. The historical authencity and changes in the bible are widely accepted amongst Bible Scholars. Look up Bart Erhman.

Just because you have a subjective feeling doesn’t make something correct. If you want to learn the true life of Jesus Christ and Mary (peace be upon them) read the Quran. There is only 1 Quran which the Creator claimed he would preserve. You can test this evidence any way you’d like. Also the Quran states the Bible was changed as well as Torah. This information was made known 1400 years ago which Bible Scholars now openly admit.

  • shawnkemp4prez

You say, “when examining a religion you must examine its source text.” So you should take your own advice, and see how Moses (whom you consider a prophet) writes of Ishmael, the progenitor of Islam.

(Genesis 16:12) He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.” This is who your call your religion’s patriarch? Not to mention Muhammad had a child bride named Aisha? He consumated the marriage with the girl at age nine, do you have a defense for that?

Like you said, “just because you have a subjective feeling doesn’t make something correct.” You’re exactly right. A religion bent on Sharia law and the killing of unbelieving infidels can offer no defense for itself as truth.

Jesus says, “Love those who hate you, bless your enemies, blessed are the peacemakers, forgive those who harm you, etc.” I’ll take that any day of over child brides, conversion or death, jihad against infidels, women not allowed to show their own elbows, etc.

God is love. In Him there is no darkness. Is jihad love? That’s a question you have to answer for yourself. And all online spats aside, I love you and I’ll pray for you right here at work. Peace man

  • shawnkemp4prez

    Sure, anytime

  • Truth Talker

By using ethical standards and cultural differences you are discrediting the truth of Islam. Instead of focusing on the theological veracity you choose to use your cultural norms (like being 18 makes you biologically an adult which is not an absolute cultural norm else where).

Jesus Christ (PBUH) never claimed he was God. You haven’t learned the origin of your religion. Ask yourself: what if my initial premise that Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) is not really God, then am I really saved? Just because people use to believe that the Earth was the center of the universe a couple hundred years ago did that make the Earth the center of the universe?

  • shawnkemp4prez

So your ethical standard says it’s okay for a grown man to have sex with a nine year old girl? Because that’s what your religion teaches.
Jesus tells the Pharisees, “before Abraham was, I AM.” He states multiple times in the Gospels that He is God in flesh.
And why would I read Islam’s view on Jesus? Islam was created 600 years after the death of Christ! Pretty big gap for error.
Please answer why Muhammed having sex with a nine year old girl is acceptable. Sincerely, please answer that.

Please also look up Bart Erhman, Jerald Dirks, and any Bible Scholar from elite seminary schools like Harvard or Princeton. The Bible you read today is not the same Jesus Christ (Peace Be Upon Him) was revealed. Also the Bible has many mistakes which the Quran corrects. Islam teaches worship only to the Creator and that Jesus Christ (PBUH) was a messenger of God.

  • shawnkemp4prez

lol did you call Harvard and Princeton elite seminary schools? Harvard and Princeton are no doubt elite schools, but not elite seminary schools. Those are two of the most secular humanistic institutions in the western hemisphere!
And if your defense for Muhammed having sex with a nine year old girl comes in the form of a YouTube video, then you’ve already lost.
I asked YOU to defend Muhammed raping a nine year old. Not YouTube. Do YOU have a defense?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

not trying to get you upset but i have to ask,

. What do you say to all the stories that share similarities with Jesus and predate him?

. What purpose is their celebrating our saviors birthday 3 months early? If he’s our savior, why not celebrate his actual birth? rather than on the Pagan day of Celebration for the Winter Solstice?

. Wasn’t Jesus’ return supposed to be within a thousand years?

    .
Just questions i have for anyone who tries to loft christianity above other religions. If you don’t want to answer, please ignore. No stress.

  • LakeShow

Can you cite your sources on the 1k year theory?

Other than that, I gave you the thumbs up haha.

  • http://twitter.com/NICKPR0 Nick

GTFOH @ Silkk. Obviously it was too much for him to explain that he spent a good chunk of his teenage years in Richmond, CA and became a Warriors fan then. Why the need for the convoluted story?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Revelation 20:6, “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.”

.Revelation 20:5, “But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished..

    .

John 5:28-29, “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.”

That’s two different resurrections being noted here by John. Plus, the Bible states these two are separated by 1000 years of time rather bluntly. So, how does the 1000 years begin according to the Bible?

    .
Or am i misunderstanding that when Jesus does come back, he’ll be back for “a thousand years” – and then the people of hell will be released? is that what John is implying?

  • Truth Talker

Your lying in regards to raping action. I’ve all ready explained to you: the Bible you read today isn’t the same as Jesus Christ preached (any historian w/o a bias will confirm that).

You won’t find any scientific or historical fallacies in the Quran like you find in the Bible.

Secondly ask yourself two questions: Where was God when Jesus Died on the Cross for your supposed salvation (did God die). Also what was Adam (peace be upon him) because he not only didn’t have a father but he also didn’t have a mother?

I’m telling you as a former atheist. The Quran possess no Historical or Scientifiec Fallacies.

You focus on culture marriage practices rather than any of veracity of the message.

No offense taken, these questions should absolutely be addressed. Many people look at Zoroaster, Dionysus, Horus, etc and say that Jesus is a replica. And many people assume that the first appearance of Jesus Christ is in the Gospel of Matthew, the New Testament of the Bible. However, Genesis 1:26 describes the creation of all things, where God says, “Let us make man in our image.” To whom was he speaking? Maybe angels? No, because angels cannot create, their purpose is to serve God. Also, Genesis 3:15 says that God will “put hostility between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent.” How can the woman have seed, though? Isn’t the seed in the man? It is foreshadowing the future virgin birth of Christ. These and many more examples in the original Hebrew scriptures show Jesus from the very beginning, including the plans for his death and resurrection. He is the originator.
The thousand years refer to the millenium period after God has judged the world with seven years of tribulation for rejecting their Savior and choosing their own self-serving paths. It never says that Jesus’ return will be one thousand years after his death. Jesus says time and time again that no man knows the day of His return, it will be like a thief in the night.
In regard to pagan rituals as Christian holidays, unfortunately, you are spot-on. No where in the Bible does it say anything about Dec 25th, that is man-made, just like Easter/Ishtar/Eostre. BEWARE OF RELIGION. God wants relationship, not chants and superstitions.

  • shawnkemp4prez

Harpazo or “rapture” is the rising of the dead in Christ, followed by the Great Tribulation, followed by the return of King Jesus, followed by the millenium. The thousand years is a time when all evil will be cast away, and God’s children leave in harmony without Satan and his deception.

  • shawnkemp4prez

    Former athiest too, right here.
Jesus took on the entire sin of human history on the cross so that we don’t have to. He died and rose again, showing that His power is greater than even death. He did it for not only me, but you too!
Adam was created of the dust. He didn’t have a mom.
And how is calling Muhammed a rapist a lie? Did the nine year old girl consent? Maybe she was just real mature for her age?

  • Truth Talker

Iblees (a satan is a JINN) he deceived Adam and Eve (Peace Be upon them). he is not a fallen angel but he USE to be a greater worshipper like the Angels, but his arrogance prevented him from listen to the Creator.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    i appreciate the response.

    .

can you elaborate on why you are able to come up with your own interpretation of the Bible’s words?

    .

i can very easily interpret “us” with God not being a God in the sense that you think of him. But as a physical being with the capability to create and change environments around him. And he could have been using the help of another being who we would also consider a God, but this is “our” God’s world, where it is only “his” creation. Rather than a co-creation.

    .

If you are going to interpret the bible to mean things it doesn’t actually say, then i am too. (not that i’m saying either of us are right, but it’s a two way street).

    .

What do you say about the end times? for example, how do you interpret this,

.”And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken”

    .

you can’t possibly take that literally right?

  • Truth Talker

NBK please look into Islam and read a translation of the Quran. Unlike Christian Theology. Islam even explains the philosphical issues of suffering and evil in the 2nd to last chapter of the Quran titled Surah Falaq. May God guide whoever he wills.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i don’t need to read anyone’s scripture to understand my own beliefs. My definition of God and this Universe is very different from all religions. while also very similar.
    .
as many issues as there are with Christianity, there are just as many with Islam. I just am not as well versed, and cannot really point them out without help.

  • shawnkemp4prez

I hear ya, man. It’s an uphill battle for me, because if I use the Bible to explain the Bible, I am accused of circular reasoning lol. But God Almighty is (according to the Bible) not a physical entity. He is spiritual force. It says all things are created for and through Yeshua (or as we say in English, Jesus) who is the physical manifestation of The Most High.
And I do take the Bible quite literally in regard to the end times. Because the creation of the world shook the cosmos, the end of the world shall as well.
Water, ice, and vapor are all H2O, just in different forms. YAHWEH the Father, Yeshua the physical manifestation, and the Advocate aka the Holy Spirit are different manifestations of the same being.
“It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.” Proverbs 25:2

so you literally believe the stars will fall from the sky? you know there are more stars in the sky then there are grains of sand on the earth?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

so you don’t believe in evolution either?

  • shawnkemp4prez

I’m aware that to a non-believer of the Bible, any and all of my viewpoints are ludicrous lol. And trust me when I say that for 26 years I had very little interest or belief in divinity, and certainly not the kind described in the “man-made, antiquated” Bible. But my curiosity hit me too hard for too many years, and one night I prayed to God or whoever was out there, that if this crazy-sounding stuff is real…just please show me. “Reveal yourself” is all I asked. And He did. Now I walk with Him. I encourage you to offer a genuine prayer like that. If you get no answer? So what, you wasted four minutes of your life. But maybe you will get a response…

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Maybe I have done that? Or maybe I won’t do it? Maybe I haven’t experienced anything from it? Maybe multiple times.
    .
Maybe God doesn’t need to prove himself to me. I’m merely a man, it’s very narcissistic in my opinion, to think God cares about any single person more than any single other. And there sure are many people throughout history who prayed to god (the Christian God), only to hear/feel/see/experience absolutely nothing but continued grief and sorrow.
    .
The bible taken literally is fiction. That I have zero doubts of. Science has proven this, numerous times.
    .

  • Truth Talker

Look up Jinn (islam has tangible proof that Modern day evolutionary biology) isn’t correct. Look up Ruqyah to test for the existane of an unseen creature.

  • shawnkemp4prez

The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics states that things go from order to disorder. The Theory of Evolution says the exact opposite, that we are order created from disorder. I go with Laws over Theories any day. Evolution is shaky in its foundation, cannot be proven, thus the reason it is a theory.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

why don’t you just explain whatever it is you want me to see.
    .
    Evolution is fact.
    .
    Evolutionary theory is not.
    .
There are many holes in evolution, but Evolution in some form or another is a proven fact.

  • shawnkemp4prez

God wants your relationship. You are his champion of creation. Science is not the enemy of God, not at all. But a theory and a law are two different beasts.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you don’t understand what you are talking about.

    .

A common argument against biological evolution is that the theory contradicts the second law of thermodynamics. The second law says that disorder, or entropy, always increases or stays the same over time. How then can evolution produce more complex life forms over time? The answer is that the second law is only valid in closed systems with no external sources of energy. Since the Earth receives continual energy from the Sun, the second law does not apply.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Stars will not fall from the Heavens.

    .

Man was not created from dust.

    .

    Joshua 10:12-13
Then spoke Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the men of Israel; and he said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, stand thou still at Gibeon, and thou Moon in the valley of Aijalon.” And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day.

    .

The Bibles was written by man. In a time where they knew almost nothing.

    .

Scripture is the word of GOD. It is not what was decided to be scripture by a group of Romans led by Constantine. Which is the Bible.

  • Truth Talker

Okay in the Quran (from the Creator) the absolute purpose of man in stated in Chapter 51 verse 56: And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.

Jinn is a species which Quran states are composed of smokeless fire (basically another form of Energy). Now it’s highly illogical to believe in something that you can’t see unless you can test for it. Now just like we can’t see cells or microbes without a microscope, You won’t know Jinns exist unless you perform Ruqyah. Here’s information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mO55jT0dUGg

Also a group of Jinn are actually part of the Iblees (the main devil) who is trying to deceive mankind from worship of the Creator.

Studying human physiology you know that the heart, lungs, and other organs have a purpose which reflects they are designed ie the lungs respire to exchange blood gas level and the Heart pump blood to maintain suitable environment for cellular environment (the interstium).

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    that doesn’t prove anything.

. i never said i don’t believe in GOD. i never said i don’t believe in Jinn (or know enough about it to deny it). Simply, Evolution is real. It is not disputable. How it happens is disputable. But that is happens? is not. And even if evolution does not apply to us (evolution can’t explain our brain or voice box – yet – if ever. although i have theories), it applies to all other life. which God does get credit for creating.

Evolution example: in the year 2013, food is more plentiful and health care more accessible than it was in 1913. Thus, people have adapted to the change, and generally stand taller in stature and live longer than they did 100 years ago. If that is what you call evolution, then thumbs up.
However evolution/adaptation is a response to an original action, so the question always boils down to: where did it all begin? If it’s a domino effect, then who pushed the first domino? Chicken vs Egg: the remix. You must understand that evolution theory, like Christianity, Judaism, or Islam, is faith-based. No, they do not have proof, or it would be called Evolution Law. But they have faith that research will eventually show their hypotheses to be correct. We’re all creatures of faith.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Oh the broken arguments of Christians…If we are created in God’s image, we wouldn’t adapt. We wouldn’t need to, we would be perfect. Unless you now want to argue that GOD is not perfect?

Just because you understand a concept doesn’t mean the concept is correct. Evolutionary Biology pieces morphology and DNA similarity a generates a theory termed macroevolution. I do believe Natural Selection because even at the cellular level your body Adapts according to cellular stresses (hypertrophy, atrophy, Hyperplasia)…. but my main contention is that an UNSEEN reality exists amongst humans. Humans are not the pinnacle of intellegience. Now people claim to see Alien. But yet most people are unaware the invisible beings live amongst us. You can witness this by watching youtube videos by searching Jinn Exorcism. The only way we have this information is through Islam. If you also examine the prophecies of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) look up Minor and Major Signs toward the Final day of human existence you’ll see its not just some nostradamus (reading into a couplet). Notice that Islam provides a big picture of the beginning of Creation until the End of it with detailed prophecies.

  • shawnkemp4prez

So if I move to Hawaii and develop a tan due to the increased presence of the sun, that adaptation somehow disproves God? No adaptation to our environment at all, or else God is a big fake? That would mean that we should be born infants and remain in that state for the duration of our lives. That would more accurately prove God, because then we would be perfect?

  • Truth Talker

I agree that interpreted these entities, but the Question becomes why and how and where did the Quran come from. If you ever taken a gross anatomy class, you’ll know it’s impossible to know that Animals and Human are well for 60% water for body weight. Now the Quran mentions man is made from mud/clay and water… but if you think about it All the elements of our body are made from the atoms found in the earth.

Also, the Quran’s embryology miracle is amazing. I mean God even describes that when we are resurrected he will resurrect up to our fingertips. There are too many proofs that Islam is the Absolute Nature of Reality.

  • Truth Talker

I agree I agree lol. But I wasn’t sure if you had physical access to a mosque to talk with an Imam (whose like a religious preacher of a mosque)

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

So now Adam was created as an infant? The argument against evolution implies things don’t change. .
My point was a human change over 100 years is as much proof of evolution as entire species changing. You can’t say God created us in his image, while also arguing we have physical changed to better suit our environment. Unless you want to also argue that God is imperfect. And thus, would not be GOD in the sense that he is portrayed in the Bible (you did say you take it literally). A book put together by a group of men. From stories written by other men. .
There are huge logical wholes in your argument. In any Christian based argument that defends the bible as having literal implications. .
Like the Whale for example. Explain it’s femur? Without using evolution to do so.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Our body is made up, entirely, of elements from the Stars. The Earth, as well. .
The most common elements in the universe are what we are made of.
    .
Here is a great explanation, http://m.youtube.com/#/playlist?feature=mh_lolz&list=FLH51bgsjskUSMElk9af4JDw&desktop_uri=%2Fplaylist%3Flist%3DFLH51bgsjskUSMElk9af4JDw%26feature%3Dmh_lolz

  • Truth Talker

Don’t believe anything I saw you can perceive all of these with your own physical senses and test it with any method you like. Islam is a continuation of the Abrahamic Tradition. Even the torah, and other jewish scriptures plus the Bible Prophecize of the Prophet Muhammad coming.

  • Truth Talker

How does that contradict the Quran. How did you think the Earth Came to existence. Look up the miracle of Iron in the Quran.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

I don’t know enough about the Quran to dispute it, like I told you earlier. I am just clarifying certain. Aspects of this discussion. I got out of your comment that you were implying we are made up of elements that are literally from this earth. Which is false. As far as science as surmised that is.

  • Truth Talker

Look up Bart Erhman and Jerald Dirks… How in the world would someone in the Arab peninsula who couldn’t read know the Bible had been altered by Man’s words.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

he talked to other people that spoke words.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

is that how you avoid recognizing your beliefs as ignorant? what you said was blatantly wrong. i provided you proof. and now you are trying to draw ire on science in general? that’s your feeble attempt at making your point? i am not here to have an irrational discussion. this is a serious matter to me. if you are not equipped to have this discussion, then don’t.

  • shawnkemp4prez

Come on man, you know I wasn’t implying that Adam was an infant. And developing a skin tan or growing teeth from infancy isn’t me co-signing to evolution either. Response and growth does not equate to evolution as you describe it. And I cannot explain a whale’s femur anymore than I can explain my own two kidneys, when all my body requires is one.
But can you explain the origin of all things? Like ALL things? That would include the origin of the matter that “Big Banged” a zillion years ago. Nope, no one can. So until we die, we operate off of our faith and beliefs. I choose Jesus. Peace and love.

  • Truth Talker

If you’re seeking the absolute truth of the nature of reality, you can never find it with a superficial analysis. Its like the ocean, if you look at the top of the water you see a beautiful surface, until you dive deep you’ll find the treasure. examine the proofs you’ll come to same conclusions as I have. but don’t let culture norms be a standard.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i have already told you i believe in GOD. Just not yours. Because yours comes from a book put together by men. Who chose, without the help of GOD, what is included and what isn’t. And there is also no evidence that the books in the Bible were written, or influenced by more than man. (after the Book Genesis, which is the root story in almost every religion).

    .

In terms of the Big Bang, there are theories. Do you know about Quantum Mechanics? —- here’s a little introduction for you,

    .

Quantum mechanical fluctuations can produce the cosmos,” said panelist Seth Shostak, a senior astronomer at the non-profit Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute. “If you would just, in this room, just twist time and space the right way, you might create an entirely new universe. It’s not clear you could get into that universe, but you would create it.”

    .
Paint me as crazy, but i don’t believe in your Christianity as right. I don’t believe in Islam as right. i don’t believe in Quantum Mechanics as right. I have my own beliefs, and I have evidentiary proof of the things I am sure of.
    .
I am sure that the Bible, if literal, is fiction.
    .
Your Bible even says the world is 10,000 years old. You believe that nonsense? (since you said earlier you take it literally).

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

superficial analysis? wanna elaborate on what you mean? aren’t you defending a faith? not many things on this earth more superficial than staking all your beliefs in a 2 thousand year old book. Especially when there are competing religions doing the EXACT same thing.

Its a scam. My relatives have made use of this exorcist before, apparently someone in the family was really sick and no one knew why, doctors found it odd and couldn’t help much. So they call in this Imam from a mosque and he goes out into the yard and digs up a goat skull with a piece of paper inside it with my relative’s name and claims someone was using black magic to make him sick. So they paid him money to “cure” him. Turns out he was being poisoned by a servant working with that imam.

    .

Well that sucks, sorry man, i’m not ever going to believe in this. I have seen the “exorcisms” on youtube, by the way, we went over those in a religion class. You realize the Genie in Aladdin is a Jinn? Have you ever personally witnissed a Jinn or someone being affected by what they do?

    .

and how do you rationalize this passage, “Fight in the cause of God those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for God loves not transgressors. And slay them wherever you catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter… But if they cease, God is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful… If they cease, let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression” (2:190-193). -

    .
wouldn’t a person denying the Quran be considered an oppressor?
    .
i am not trying to damage your beliefs, you just seem open to discussing them, and i cannot hide my skepticism.

  • Truth Talker

Yes, I have personally witness a ruqyah/exorcism and its authentic. Although a lot of people especially in India and Pakistan commit a grave crime by worshipping the jinn rather than the Creator. They perform black magic and try to exploit people into giving them money because they Jinn will do bad things to people.

Okay let me ask you a question. If I wrote the sentence “The Car is Hot”: that could mean 2 things. Either the Car is on fire because its engine is burning or it could mean that its a lambo or ferrari. You have to learn the context of when that Verse was revealed. You can’t read scripture literally and expect to understand it. Also, check out the Embryology miracle in the Quran. If you look at some English Translation of the Quran it says Man came from a clot of blood. Now any scientist knows that incorrect, but when you go back to understand that arabic language and the words used have multiple English definitions you’ll see the Quran was accurate in its description of a human embryo (and no its not from a greek philosophers). Also, look up the finger print miracle in the Quran. God says he will resurrect Man to his very fingertips. Only in the 1800s did we come to learn that fingertips uniquely identify each individual.

The only way to learn and understand the meaning of the verse is to understand the context of when it was revealed.

The only way to understand the meaning of verse and its application you should know the Life of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). If you want to learn about the Prophet Muhammad’s life and learn how Islam originated there is an academic studying at yale his name is Yasir Qadhi and he has a great lecture series on youtube.

  • Truth Talker

Take a week or two and read an English Translation of the Quran and also read a biography of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) life. I’d recommend if you don’t want to read anything. Just youtube Yasir Qadhi Seerah Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

It’s in the plans my friend. Thanks for the discussion

  • Truth Talker

One question: where do you think the story of flying carpets and genie’s come from.

If you read the story of Prophet Solomon (Peace be upon him), you’ll learn there is truth to it.

Science is an attempt to understand the Physical/Seen world. but Unseen reality does exists.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    Stories don’t = truth. .
    .
And you call them flying carpet, the Hindu call them Vimana. They aren’t floating rugs. Taken in the context they are written, it seems very much like stories of Extra Terrestrials.

  • Truth Talker

Please provide 1 untruthful statement about the Quran. If it’s not from the Creator please provide 1 untruthful statement from it.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Please provide tangible proof of what it claims. I don’t need to prove your religion wrong. I already told you I don’t know enough about it to dispute it like that. And I already told you I’m not going to just believe something because it says so. For me to believe you, you would have to actually prove it. Otherwise as you’ve been, you are going to just encounter skepticism and questions. .
And I do plan on reading, but I won’t be blindly believing.

  • Truth Talker

Okay here’s one tangible reproducible proof.

The Creator in the Holy Quran states: Verily, We Ourselves have sent down this Exhortation, and most surely We will be its Guardian, (Al-Hijr, 15:10). Basically, the Creator will keep the Quran preserved unlike the Torah and Bible.

    Watch this documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UfEsO2nBS0

Ask yourself if there were different Qurans how in the world could people from all parts of the globe regardless of culture, ethnicity, geographic location have a competition testing there memorization of it and pronounciation of it. You can look anywhere in the world, go to any location, the Quran has remained the same. Every year in one month during Ramadan the entire Quran is recited at every mosque. It is memorized in its entirety by millions of people who are called Hafiz. Even when you study the compilation of the Quran which came after the time of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH you’ll realize regardless of mechanism the probability of maintaining a religious text (like Torah and BIble) is almost impossible unless through Divine Intervention.

  • Truth Talker

Also another point, people can memorize the entire Quran without even knowing what any of the Arabic means at all. People from really young ages like infant all the way to Old age can memorize the entire Quran.

  • Truth Talker

Ive seen her speak before, she’s good speaker. One thing I’ll caution do not look at how people who claim be to muslim behave to learn truth about islam.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

So no you haven’t seen her speak before. She’s not Muslim.

  • Truth Talker

Yes, I have. She’s even spoken at a muslim youth conference. Just because she’s not muslim doesn’t mean that Islam isn’t the truth.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Why in the entire f*ck would you caution from believing people just because they say they are Muslim? I showed you a video from an agnostic Jew, about reading the Qu’ran, which you have led me to believe would be something I could find a good translation of by repeatedly saying “read it and ….”. .
I wanted to know your thoughts on the video. I don’t care about your unsolicited advice or cautions. .
And I again, never said anything about Islam being wrong. Does it say something in the Qu’ran about being constantly paranoid about being judged? Just read the words I say and respond to those or don’t. This was a somewhat good conversation despite your insistence on being right because your book says so. But now you just seem arrogant.

  • Truth Talker

Oh I apologize for the misunderstadning. Actually if you want a good copy of English Translation look up Muhammad Assad Translation of the Quran for English. It contains foot notes and a chronology of the revelation with some context.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

No worries, awesome, thank you. I will look into getting a copy asap.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

I agree with this theory. For the record. He was saying the Bible is literal. If so, evolution is not real.

  • Truth Talker

    Nbk my man

I just wanted to know if you had any chance check out Islam

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yup it’s a religion with a book…..written in a language that you don’t even speak. in fact, nobody does. it’s an amazing religion, it’s stories are great. But it in no way seems more right than any other from what i gather. and there is no scientific evidence that any of the claims you tried to make are true. Not a single shred.
