The LA Clippers are Reportedly Bickering

Despite notching their franchise record 50th win last night, all is not well inside Clipper-Land. According to the LA Times, there is growing tension between players and coaches: “(DeAndre) Jordan wants nothing to do with Coach Vinny Del Negro because he blames Del Negro for burying him on the bench. Yet Jordan’s inability to play consistently or make free throws, thereby turning the ball over to the opposition much like a turnover, makes him a liability in close games. Jordan sees it differently, and he has for the last two seasons, maintaining he would be more productive if allowed to play more. [...] The other night in Sacramento, (Blake) Griffin and Jordan exchanged words on the bench. Griffin told Jordan he best never again stare him down as he did when Griffin failed to give Jordan a good pass for a dunk. Everyone else was left to sit there while waiting for the kids to stop bickering. The pair have also grown tired of Chris Paul’s voice, which is understandable at times. Paul, very much like Kobe Bryant — who has turned off Dwight Howard with his out-of-this-world standards — is relentless. He never shuts up. And Jordan and Griffin have become weary of him. When asked about being annoying, Paul smiled and said, ‘I need to work on being a better leader.’”

Vinny’s gone as soon as the Clippers fall in the playoffs.

  • Isaac

meh. Vinny is the problem, not these other guys.

Jordan is right about his minutes. His free throws are bad, but his replacement, Odom, shoots only 10% better from the line than him. All stats point to them being way better when DJ is on the floor.

Griffin doesn’t get the ball enough in position to score. Look at his shot attempts, way down. Meanwhile, Butler, Green, and Jamal Crawford have been taking more shots than him.

    CP3 is CP3

Billups wasn’t that great last year either. Now he’s the “missing piece”? Give me a break. Bledsoe needs to be picking up more minutes with the starters, and playing alongside Paul.

The Clippers biggest deficiency? Wing defense. They’re not fast or athletic enough to stay with their man, they switch too many pick and rolls to cover this up, and often end up with a mismatch. Any team patient enough to move the ball can get wide open buckets. Because the ONLY player on the Clippers who can play D on the wing, is Bledsoe. Is he small? yes. But I’d rather have Bledsoe on a SG than Willie Green, Jamal Crawford or Billups.

  • pposse

which in all likelihood is looking like the first round

  • Cj

chris paul is a leader everyone on the team and the team as a whole has impreoved because of him

  • Isaac

They stumbled into the playoffs last year and beat Memphis on the road. They can do it again. Out of the 3,4,5 teams in the West, the Clippers have the best player in CP3. Thats what matters in the playoffs.

  • Jacob Nelson

The Clippers core is too immature to do any real damage in the playoffs. They are the same as the Warriors from a few years ago. CP3 is much better than Baron Davis but he’s going to bail this summer. My guess is that he goes to the Lakers if Kobe and D12 both take a pay cut. I think they will let Pau walk and insert either Clark or Jordan Hill into the lineup….but back to the task at hand. The Clippers as currently built will be gone within 2 years.

  • Isaac

Kobe is scheduled to make 30 million dollars next year, Dwight is going to make 20. They’re barely making the playoffs, and will get bounced in the first round.. CP3 isn’t going anywhere.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

This reads a little like a gossip magazine article. Not really believing it. They have their first 50 win season in the history of the franchise mainly because of CP3′s influence. I highly doubt that his teammates are tired of him. And if they are and he’s aware of it, then come July, he can leave and they’ll go back to being a disappointment of a franchise with highlights every now and then from Blake Griffin.

CP3 to the Knicks? He still hasnt signed an extension if I’m not mistaken… Clippers must not enjoy winning

  • spit hot fiyah

the same knicks that have melo, Chandler and amare under contract? he stays with the clips, del Negro is gone, and cp becomes the de facto gm

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Junior-Taylor/100003121138419 Junior Taylor

You know this is a problem when alleged best friends (Griffin and Jordan) are at each other’s throats.

  • LLC#12

Jordans being stupid because every man and his dog agrees he can’t be on the floor in the 4th cause he can’t make a free throw. Blakes being stupid talking to Jordan like that, and they are both being stupid by not realising that without CP3 their team is average at best, so quit whining about him. People like CP3 and Kobe, they have earned the right to say what they want. Jordan and Blake have not.

Yes those same Knicks because the organization has figured out they can win without Amare, which should prompt them to ship his @$$ out!! Not sure if anyone will take his contract considering his health issues, but they should try to move him to make room for the real Big 3 of NY!

  • The Philosopher

It’s also bad when 50 wins is a franchise record…

  • playa

With all due respect Blake&Deandre should stick their moods up their asses and do what Cp3 is asking them or motivate them to do, but im on Jordan’s side when it comes to Vinny- he plays many guys far too little,i understand the depth etc, but you play your young gunz as much as you can ,there’s no other way to develop, and Del Negro plays Griffin like he’s 20th season wet ala Duncan,c’mon.

  • spit hot fiyah

no one will take his 2 un-insured years he has left on his contract after this season

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Junior-Taylor/100003121138419 Junior Taylor

Just because they have accomplished more at the professional level doesn’t mean they can walk around talking reckless to their teammates. Being a good leader requires a balance between criticism and positivity.

  • Lol

    Chris Paul to the Knicks.

  • TDOT

    Mavs maybe?

Someone will. He can still play and it’s money coming off your books anyway in 2 years. Philly sounds like a good destination. They don’t care about previous health issues

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

Both of those guys are just too competitive that’s all, its easy to piss people off when you’re all about winning and they’re not doing something you think they should be doing.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Chauncey Billups missing so much time also plays a factor in this if this story has any truth to it. It’s one thing to be on the bench in a suit or in practice on the sidelines. It’s another to be on the floor playing. His on court leadership is missed.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rainman1991 Saleem Rainman

Raptors havent made it to 50 yet…

  • LLC#12

I agree with you on that, I never said anything about their leadership, but they just want to win, and if you want to win, you should be able to deal with criticism and take it on board and keep on winning, especially when winning is the aim of your job.

  • LakeShow

Jordan… Why don’t you just live up to your name man!??

  • pposse

he never had any on court leadership with this team..he was out since the beginning of last year

  • roscoe

and ppl get mad at me for thinking KD – Westbrook have problems…

this is a whole new level…

  • roscoe

    replace “stupid” with “immature”

  • roscoe

cp3 is an East Coast guy, but now that melo had the knee problem…

i’d bet pennies on the dollar he becomes a LAL

  • roscoe

    And what about you? Huh?

Your not much of a show, are you? 8th seed.

  • LakeShow

    Hey maaaan!

  • LakeShow

You gotta admit, the Lakers are ALWAYS a “show” though.
    Even this season.

  • Yes.We,Did.

    And dysfunction and disconnect doesn’t?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=509819249 Gaurav P.

Well, I mean the 2004 Lakers made it to the NBA Finals with about half as much chemistry as this team has.

  • roscoe

ik there are, just giving u the biz, lol.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    that is flatly impossible.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

if they do trade his contract, they would be taking back an equal amount of money. this isn’t NBA 2k, nobody is going to trade Amar’e without giving up a ton of money in contracts in return.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

I never said he did have any on court leadership with this team. I said him not playing has this team missing what he would bring to them. Both last season and this season.

  • Rosemary Davis

Chris Paul would be a fool to sign a lengthy contract with the Clippers like Blake Griffin did and yes they will win the division and get in the playoffs but that’s about it they are not a championship team yet they have some years to get to that level and even if they do win a championship in the future the people in the City of Los Angeles will never reconize them as doing such this is a Laker City they bleed Purple and Gold Jerry Buss made it this way so what caliber player like Chris Paul would want to stay with a team who would never be reconize for their accomplishments on a large scale no matter what they do case in point they have won fifty games something that they have never done but little talk about it around the City so his best chances would be with the Knicks too get that ring a be reconize along with the team for doing so he want have that in L.A.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

this teams downfall is that they cant play half court offense

Of course it would need to be a multi team blockbuster trade type scenario… I didnt say Amare and Chandler for CP3 and Ryan Hollins or anything like that… It would take some working but the Knicks should consider it.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you don’t understand. The Knicks have been trying to trade Amar’e for over a year. They can’t. Nobody will take him. he costs entirely too much money, and is entirely too unreliable. ANd the NBA didn’t insure his contract, so his injury, and contract are all paid for by the team he plays on.
    Amar’e is untradeable.
The Knicks don’t have enough money to get Chris Paul without giving up Amar’e or Carmelo (Tyson wouldn’t be enough). So they aren’t getting Chris Paul. Because they aren’t giving up Carmelo. And they can’t give up Amar’e.

  • Conor

You do realize that their contract with Time Warner affords them $200 000 000 annually, in addition to the revenue they already generate from merchandise & everything Staples Centre-related, right? Even with the League-wide distribution, they can afford almost everyone they want.

Playoffs haven’t begun yet, so let’s reserve judgement until then. Having said that, I cannot wait until next season when they’re healthy again.

  • Conor

  • KingBenjamin

Don’t be surprised if CP3 leaves the Clippers in free agency.

  • The Seed

I have stated ever since Paul signed with the Clippers, he would be wasting his career and he should have stated that he would not go there. Blake is not enough to me to stay in Clipperland. LIke I have stated if Paul signs his last long term extension with the CLippers, his career is over and he will go down as a great on the lines of the company of Barkley. Paul would be smart to go to Knicks or Lakers. Paul will never go anywhere with the Clippers and Memphis will knock them out of the 1st round. Poor Paul!!

  • shockexchange

(Denny Green voice) “Clippers … They were who we thought they were! They’ll be bickering at home in a few weeks”!

For some strange reason I can see Chris Paul not coming back next year and Vinny good as gone Deandre Jordan can be easily traded for a Serviceable big man like Brook Lopez maybe

  • saraannbrewin

They stumbled into the playoffs last year and beat Memphis on the road.
They can do it again. Out of the 3,4,5 teams in the West, the Clippers
have the best player in CP3. Thats what matters in the playoffs.

  • 23

The lakers had the most dominant unstoppable force in NBA history in his prime! Plus a young Kobe. They also had a coach with 6 championship rings. No comparison.

  • 23

Yeah they really are a show this year. A SIDE SHOW!

  • TR

I think they should go see if Larry Brown wants to coach in the nba again. I think him and CP3 would see eye to eye on a lot of things and he would be a great teacher to guys like Griffin and Jordan. This team still needs a solid 2 or 3 though to sure up the wing on both sides of the ball.

  • LakeShow

    *goes and cries in corner*

  • skid mark

    Underwear no fundawear

  • Brownjesus

You understand that the Lakers are over the cap, and therefore cant sign whatever free agents they want?

  • http://www.facebook.com/joshua.coggie Josh Cogdale

he had 9 rings at this point

  • JL

Del Negro not stepping in between the two (at least it wasn’t mentioned) shows that he can’t or doesn’t think he can control the two. He used to be a terrible coach with the Bulls. The clips only hired him because he was cheap. However, they didn’t think the team would be so good so quickly. They have suffered (in terms not not reaching their full potential) due to this. I’m surprised Vinny has lasted this long, considering how bad he is. But… who’s a better replacement? Please don’t say Larry Brown!

  • Conor

Thank goodness your waste of a contribution is buried aaaaaaaaaaaall the way down here. *Daniel Plainview voice*

SLAM & Disqus finally drank your milkshake.

  • Vinnie is gone

I doubt this is happening its just good old we had a few losses= frustrated players. The things that will happen this off season though vinnie is good as gone and either deandre needs to become a 55- 60% free throw shooter and have more moves besides dunks or he will become a permanent on the bench or traded for a reliable center. Cp3 probably will come back the summer will sort out the team and get them back to when they are on the same page once the coach is changed-Pacers and the bulls show this can be all it takes,

  • http://www.facebook.com/shooting.guard.319 Shooting Guard

This is what happens when a coach has no authority. They’ll be out in the first round…

  • flocka

    shuuuuuuuut uuuup!!!

  • Anthony Dixon

i agree regarding bledsoe…. But BG does not take good shots and his game needs work. Same for Jordan.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Thank goodness your Lakers may not make the playoffs and if they do, they’ll be done by late April.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Also, LeBron and the Heat will most likely be back in the Finals with a good chance at winning again. Which would mean back to back championships and Finals MVPs along with back to back regular season MVPs pushing him to 4 MVP awards. All of that will be happening while your Lakers are on vacation son. “How does it feel?” *D’Angelo voice*

Ahhh okay… Wasnt aware of the Knicks trying to get rid of Amar’e for the last year. Gotcha!

  • http://www.facebook.com/devin.williams1 Devin Williams

I hope Larry Brown get that job, he’ll get the most out of these guys

  • LobCity

We’ll see. The Clippers improved their roster from last year that dropped to the 5 seed and still took out Memphis. That was with Billups out, butler playing with a broken hand, and Injuries to Blake & CP3. We just saw Gallinari go down, Ginobili go down (1st round) and a lot can still happen. I think they have a good chance to advance.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

sweet, thanks for being open to things being different then they seem!

  • LobCity

You do realized that all that money allows them to have a huge payroll (current players) but doesn’t allow them to sign free agents like CP3 because they’re over the cap. Good luck next year when they’re health and a year older.

  • LobCity

No way. He’s a Clipper. Understand that unless he signs a minimum deal, there is no way he can play for the Knicks or Lakers. None.

  • Conor

We shall see, Rider. We shall see.

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Yes we will Laker fanboy. Yes we will.

  • roscoe

    you must be kidding.

the deals of the nba are like a piece of art found in a modern art museum.

you can’t explain what how or what happened, but something happened.

  • LobCity

The Clippers can give CP3 $100 mil/5 yrs, no kidding.

The Lakers/Knicks arent under the cap
The knicks and the Lakers can’t amnesty anyone that would give them enough to offer something remotely close to a max deal.
There are no more extend & trade deals allowed in the CBA (like Melo’s)
They could sign & trade but that would require something the Clippers would want in return( the lakers & Knicks are lacking this)
Teams that are under the cap (Dallas/Atlanta) can only offer 4 yrs and a lot less money. Neither of those teams have the talent/assets the Clippers have.
CP3 bought a mansion in LA and moved his family in after getting traded to the Clippers. Pretty sure Mrs. Paul has veto power lol. Again, the Clippers won’t do a sign & trade to the Lakers. No chance. A sign & trade would be for 4 yrs not the 5 year deal. Believe there’s hope if you’d like, but the chances are slimmer than my boy Keith closs
