Andre Drummond to Work on His Game With Hakeem Olajuwon

You can add Detroit Pistons big man Andre Drummond to Hakeem Olajuwon’s growing list of offseason NBA clients—the youngster will work with The Dream this summer to refine his post game. Per the Detroit Free Press: “The Hall of Fame center, one of the game’s all-time great offensive players, is expected to work with the Pistons’ center-forward over the summer to help him with his offensive game, which is still in the infant stages. Drummond has been at the practice facility recently. He took about a two-week break, according to Pistons.com, before getting back into the gym to work on his game. ‘I’m really excited for next season,’ Drummond said recently. While the Pistons search for a new coach, Drummond said he’d continue to work on his game throughout the summer. Drummond won’t be 20 until August, but he already is quickly becoming the face of the franchise with his hustle and athleticism. Drummond finished fourth in the rookie of the year voting despite missing games with a back injury.”

That’s great. Good for him. It took Amare’ Stoudemire 10 years in the L to realize he needs to work with The Dream.

this may or may not have huge results.

  • Max

We can or can not say that about anything.

  • Max

I am really pulling for him to become a very good player!

  • Markus437

It’s good that he’s doing this now before he develops any bad habits he could’ve developed in his offensive game had he went to Hakeem while in his prime like Dwight and Amare

  • j

there is so much to gain by going to hakeem this early. unlike dwight, who is so ingrained in his habits that his game didnt change after his workout with hakeem

I really wanted the Raps to choose Drummond over Ross. Although Ross was more “NBA-ready”, a Valanciunas and Drummond tandem could have been devastating in a year or two.

How is Ross more NBA ready?
Did you see what Drummond did when he got minutes?

  • bike

This kid has become a great surprise. I thought he might be the second coming of Eddy Curry watching him at UConn – big, athletic guy with very little or no work ethic.

at that point before the draft, Ross looked more NBA ready. obviously not now.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

I’m just stating what the general concensus was going into the draft. The knock on Drummond was that he was foul/turnover prone/appeared lost at times with a lot of upside and raw athleticism…Ross was the offensively polished player with the springs to match.

  • Max

    Ah ok.

  • Max

    Lol dude.
The 3rd last vid you commented on with your disqus account.
    LMAO!

  • RKJ92

Why post a comment like that? lol

  • RKJ92

Ya.. we should have drafted Andre Drummond, and in the 2nd round Quincy Miller :/

  • spit hot fiyah

dwight’s post game got better after working with Hakeem. if that was because of the workouts or not is off course hard to say, but his game did change (and then regressed post-injury)

  • LakeShow

Have you ever seen him post a comment that isn’t straight out of the mouth of a 3rd grader?

  • LeroyShonuff

I understand people working with Hakeem, but I just wish more players would train with Kevin Mchale. Hakeem greatness came from the fact he played soccer growing up and was use to quick footwork while McHale is simply pure basketball footwork. McHale footwork would be easier to duplicate and get faster results. Just my .02

Well now that Mchale is a coach for an opposing team I’m sure he would not be able train other players. It would warrant more scrutiny than Lebron and Durant working together. There is no excuse for not seeking his training before his position though. lol If I was a player I would have sought out both of those guys.

It’s cool that more big men are learning from the best. But Hakeem’s lessons haven’t translated into results. Dwight, Amare and Javale still have no post moves. Either Hakeem is not a good teacher, or his students haven’t practiced his moves enough to actually apply them on the court. Just because you learn from Mozart doesn’t you’ll actually play the piano like Mozart, I guess.

Funny how Kobe and LBJ are the only ones who dramatically improved their games.

  • danpowers

i dont know why so many guys do this olajuwon “seminar”… maybe guys just didnt stay long enough in college to learn how to post up properly or maybe hakeem olajuwon is just the nba’s number one weed supplier

  • danpowers

lol f******************ck i saw it too now. i just wonder…. if it was that unpleasant as it looked… why didnt they just bite?

  • Max

yeah right it real easy to win a national championship in college on a junior nba team like kentucky was davis,kidd-gilchrist,teague,jones,miller,lamb come on now troll a team that was paid off by calipari just like the rest of em including this year upcoming “GREATEST INCOMING CLASS EVER” that team was a joke and should be not even allowed to be put together but yet calipari is bulletproof to the NCAA

    /dead

  • LakeShow

    To each their own.

I find Davis to be the obvious choice as to who has been better and probably will always be better.

It could be the fact I like to use true and useful facts and data though.

Drummond is the better rebounder, that’s the only thing he is better at though. He has an argument as a better shot blocker too. But that remains to be determined.

    Have a great day friend.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

he has no defensive argument of any sort. not even kind of.

  • LakeShow

whaddu talkin bout trolls? he obviously haz goods argments if u juss let da man speech.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000166716900 Anthony Darnello Taylor Jr.

Yeah its just weird that these two wing players are the only ones, I mean this says a lot about their work ethic, and nothing good for the big guys because there is no reason not to see any change marginal or minimal at all.
