Damian Lillard to Win Rookie of the Year Award Today

Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard will be presented with the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award. Portland has set up a press conference this afternoon for a “major announcement”. Per CSNNW: “The Trail Blazers announced today that there will be a ‘major’ announcement Wednesday at 4pm at the Rose Garden. Based on the tweet from the Trail Blazers official account one can assume this will be the announcement of Damian Lillard as the Rookie of the Year: ‘We’ve got a big announcement to make tomorrow morning, we’ll give you one guess but you’ll only need #0′”

In other news, the sun will rise and set today. Was this more of a foregone conclusion than Kyrie last year?

  • KevinJohnsonFan

Anthony Davis gave him a little bit of a run for it towards the end of the season, but Damian didn’t miss a game and came in ready from start to finish.

  • Bandwagonfan

Kyrie was competing with rubio. But its wasnt close though.especially after the acl on rubio

Lillard made me look good with this one! I said at the beginning of the season that he would be rookie of the year! Congrats to him!

you mean once the voting came down to it? or in general? cuz in general, Anthony Davis was actually a better player. But Lillard led the whole league in minutes and his team was better.

Both voting and just the general impact that they’ve had. Lillard has had a bigger impact on his team I think. Davis might be the better player, and definitely has more upside, but imo, Lillard has been the most valuable rookie this year, and as a result, this award has been a foregone conclusion for a while.

bigger impact, definitely. I completely agree. I just didn’t understand what you meant.

After a saw Lillard score a few 30 point games and how he was trusted with the ball…I knew he was going to win it, also noticing how stupid and retarded Anthony Davis played, I gave it to lillard back in November 2012!!! He deserves it. no one else does. weak 2012 draft. weakest as seen in the last 10 years.

davis? no he didn’t….hell no he didn’t. check the stats.

  • don

but adidas has announced this in the ads already! “the 1st pick, the ROY, the all star…”

If Davis had been healthy all season this might have been a lot closer. Still, Davis even when healthy seemed somewhat underwhelming considering his level of play at KY. Time will tell I guess.

  • RayJr

This year’s will be a lot weaker.

Check the production. Regular stats don’t say it all especially the ones that the casual fan looks at. Look deeper than the 19 and 7 Damian put up. 16 and 10 for Davis compared to 18 and 6 for Damian..those Per 36 minutes stats have it a lot closer than some people think it is. The race got off to the start it did because Damian didn’t miss a game and was shown on national TV while Davis missed 18 games and barely got on national TV. Also, Damian played 4 years in college, Davis only played 1. Higher production, less time in college, less playing time…there wasn’t that much of a separation between them.

Anthony Davis played stupid and retarded….
Per 36 minutes 17-10 with 2.2 blocks and 1.5 steals.
    If he’s healthy he’ll be a star.

Andre Drummond was better than Anthony Davis this season has way more potential and skills he will be a monster in three years time davis will be a bust

and when in doubt (not that we were) give it to the one playing the toughest position

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

no he wasn’t. HAHA that’s pretty funny tho. at best, per minute, they were even.

    true.

Congratulations to Damian Lillard. He is definitely deserving of this award, but Anthony Davis is STILL the best rookie overall to me. I think he’ll be an ALL STAR many times over. He did out-perform Lillard (on average) when the Hornets went against the Trailblazers, and he did have the most double-double games out of ALL the rookies of the class. Besides Lillard came into a way better situation than Davis. There were already great players on the Trailblazers and so Lillard just fit right in (perfectly, I might add). Davis came into a situation where 1) their “star” player was an injury-prone, non-ALLSTAR, overpaid SG who really didn’t want to be there, 2) 90% of the players were NEW to the team, 3) they were in need of a solid SF and SG, and 4) he’s the No.1 pick and everyone was going at him hard. But even after all that he still had to deal with injuries (no matter what some ignoramus says, anyone who watches basketball knows it’s more VICIOUS in the post than it is on the perimeter). Davis is TOO versatile (score, rebound, blocks). While Lillard deserves this award, Davis (minus injuries) could have VERY EASILY won it!

16 and 10 per 36 minutes for a 19 year old is a bust to you?

  • Redd

    Stop using the R word.

  • Max

    I was quoting Neitel..

  • Mike From Spain

they always say that bigs take longer to adjust to the NBA… hopefully he’ll pan out

  • Redd

Don’t use the R word dude, it’s not ok.

  • Redd

Just saw that, but nonetheless try not to, with all due respect.

yes he did not look like a legit franchise player at all he was not the monster shot blocker he was in college he was kinda bad on defense too more so when he played the “center” position and not his power forward position anyway lillard was the only dominant rookie who is legit who could go head up with superstar scorer in the league and that why rookie of the year was a landslide this season also going back to davis to be honest vasquez is the only reason why davis got buckets

yea, you right….since 2003, I haven’t seen a good draft. I think the 2013 draft will be pretty good, if it was mixed with the 2014 one, it could be even better. Muhammad, Goodwin, aaron Gordon, kasey hill, wiggins, parker and a few others, this could be big.

  • Max

Don’t you mean the 2014 draftclass, mixed with players from the ’13 draftclass will be good?
