Kevin Durant Doesn’t Know Omer Asik’s Name

Scott Brooks’ Hack-a-Asik strategy failed miserably in Game 5 (and created some hilariously ugly basketball.) It might help, perhaps, if Kevin Durant and the OKC Thunder knew Omer’s name. Per the Houston Chronicle: “In the fourth quarter of the Rockets’ 107-100 Game 5 victory, Oklahoma City used a strategy of fouling the Rockets’ center intentionally in hopes of making a comeback. It didn’t work, as Asik made 7-of-12 free throws in the stretch and eventually finished with 21 points. Durant called the strategy — ‘Hack-A- … Whatever His Name Is.’ … ‘We used hack-a …’ he stumbled, trying to say Asik’s name, ‘whatever his name is, that kind of slowed the rhythm down a bit.’ Oklahoma City was down 92-82 when it began the strategy and only cut the lead to 99-92 before giving it up. Here’s guessing that Rockets coach Kevin McHale might bring that one up to Asik for motivation. Asik had 17 points and 14 rebounds in the Rockets’ Game 4 victory on Monday.”

This whole “I’m so important in my own head that I do not know the name of people who I compete against” is the shallowest ego-boosting (not surprisingly, those two go hand-in-hand) thing I have heard in a while. I like KD, but that time with LeBron is beginning to wear off on him. WAAAAAAY to much complaining to the ref’s on every possession, offense and defense. Damn I miss regular basketball. Prima donna’s have ruined this beautiful game and made it a MTV/ESPN debacle.

What I took out of those comments more than anything else is he didn’t agree with Brooks’ strategy and he didn’t want to mispronounce Asik’s name since people say it 3 or 4 different ways. Every star player complains to referees. Every single one. Nothing new. LeBron isn’t rubbing off on him. He was simply frustrated with the strategy his coach used especially when they got the deficit down to 6. Calling NBA players prima donnas is probably not a smart thing to do since playing basketball especially at the highest level isn’t exactly something weak men can do. What exactly is “regular basketball”? The game isn’t ruined at all so I don’t know what kind of game you think you’re watching. This just looks like you taking an opportunity to take shots at today’s stars. No one’s making you watch.

Dint you realize at lebron is now complain less destipe the foul or anything? He didnt even flop anymore. I mean its like most fouls turns into an and1. I know that he might havent been facing strong opponents but hey things are changing over time.

  • Bandwagonfan

Agreed. Durant and lebron are both fantastic players. Of course people trying to guard them as good as possible. Let em do their own things

and I dont know the name of the offense the Thunder are running…. how many time do i see Durant at the top of the key in a “Create-or-die” situation?????? Running point forward, and now he’s tired……..0 pts in the 4th…Get em on the wing and watch him do work!!!! Can the Thunder amnesty kendrick perkins? …..They coulda picked up Birdman off the streets for lackluster production, Kendrick.

    Translate.

Its a problem when they dont get back on defense because they’re complaining…..That’s all the bothers me… Dwade is the king of this.

    Ditto

    Losing respect for Durant.

Not really sure what Perkins provides the Thunder other than hard picks, fouls and intimidation. But they could have gotten that at a way cheaper price with someone like the Birdman or Kenyon Martin. You don’t even really need a true center in today’s game. Jeff Green
could have been their stretch 4 with Ibaka manning the middle. Plus they could have extended Harden with the money they’re wasting on Perkins. Bet OKC wished they still had Harden when Westbrook went down.

Neither does the rest of America, apparently. I hear is name pronounced differently every time. Can’t tell whether it’s AHH-Shik or Ah-SHEIK.

  • spit hot fiyah

yeah that’s the worst. i’m still waiting for the day that the ref stops play and says: yeah you are right i missed that one, let’s bring it back.

I assumed he really didn’t know dude’s name. They probably just refer to him by number in the game plan.

  • LP @ThisisEther

He leads the league in frown per 36 minutes, so he provides intimidation! Can one of these stat guys look this up!??

yeah i mean he tried to say it. we gonna make a headline every time Barkley, a professional analyst doesn’t know someone’s name now?

Kevin Durant is just jealous because noone on his team can rebound like him.

Its not like his name is hard to remember like Sefolosha or Stiemsma. His name is Asik which is very easy to remember.

Well i didn’t hear the interview. just that It’s not supposed to be pronounced “aye-sick” more like “aye-shick” which yaknow is a little confusing considering the oodles and noodles of people pronouncing it how they it is spelt. And I was taking the article at its word

  • Bandwagonfan

    Thank you

  • Bandwagonfan

Yea in kno. What do you expect? They are superstars man. High expectations for em. They might feel thatbthey disappoint the expectation at they go to complain. But asi see lebron recent games, he didnt do it anymore. Harden the one who ive seen recently
