LeBron James Thinks Paul George Will Be a ‘Great One’

Paul George put on a show again in Friday’s win over the Heat, scoring 22 points, dropping 6 assists and crushing this vicious dunk. After the game, LeBron James said the Pacers star has his respect and is on his way to becoming a household name. Per CBS Sports: “It was George who’d forced overtime in Game 1 with that off-balance 30-footer, and it was George who’d given the Pacers that fleeting one-point lead at the end of overtime on Wednesday night with three free throws. Now it was George going head-to-head again with James — staying in front of him on the defensive end, exchanging highlights and a handshake with him at the end of the third quarter and earning the respect of the best player on the planet. It was an enduring moment that will outlive these playoffs, the great James embracing the competition from a 23-year-old who was not backing down. ‘We’re just two guys trying to do what it takes to help our team win,’ James said. ‘He’s really good. He’s going to be a great one.’”

he is a max contract waiting to happen

I tend to agree on this. I want a Glow in the Dark Paul George Jersey Now. Cant believe the League didnt capitalize on that one

  • JML-G

wonder what will happen to Granger now

  • http://www.facebook.com/saul.reyes.581 Saul Reyes

I don’t care if this is a knee jerk reaction to his recent success but I’d take Paul George over Melo all day.

  • spit hot fiyah

if he is healthy, he will come of the bench, he has already stated that this is george’s team now. he also only has one year left on his deal

  • pposse

i been said, if you replaced Paul George with Lebron on the Heat the Heat would still be the favorites to win it all. Lebron with the Pacers would be pretty disgusting though

  • http://twitter.com/Esquire_J Esquire J

Not a knee jerk … Too much evidence George over Melo any day

  • shockexchange

The Kang tryna gas you up Paul. Don’t fall for it though. (Jim Jones voice) “Treat ‘em like Ferraris … gas ‘em up”

  • theDankerNuggets

watching him go toe-to-toe with Bron, who doesn’t think he’ll be a great one

  • theDankerNuggets

not going to disagree but you do have to look at the fact George has a much better built team around him and a great coach

  • Lloyd

I’m usually not a fan of the whole buddy-buddy thing during a close series, but when Lebron dapped George that was a great moment.

  • RKJ92

Wow. You would think The Seed wrote that.. but looks like we found his long lost brother instead..

  • RKJ92

No, your right. I would too, Paul George is a swiss army knife, Melo is a spork lol

  • Max

Imagine this Pacers team with a sg worth of Danny Grangers contract.

  • pposse

no logical conversation about Lebron can be had with you, just yesterday it was Wades mistakes that costed them a loss and all but a ‘ho hum woe is lebron’ when it came down to his two costly turnovers…according to you

  • Roger Rogers

granger keeps on getting sh*tted on on this website but the thing is, they were trying to make him the #1 on this team, he’s a better sidekick than a leader. He actually realizes that now so the pacers would actually get better.

  • RKJ92

According to the game I watched and the one YOU obviously didn’t; I know how the heat had lost the game, YOU clearly don’t.. how about you not make this about LeBron, and actually take into account what really happened in the game to cause the loss instead of Skip Baylessing the situation and making it into something it isn’t.

  • TSmoove

You just might be a prisoner of the moment…

  • Max

I know, I just mean with his contract and say they get another solid scoring option, they would be an even better team.
But yeah, seeing Granger in action would be cool too.

  • spit hot fiyah

it comes of the book after next season, so we might find out.

  • Redd

That’s a whole lot of stupid.

  • Redd

Agreed but he’ll be second fiddle in even his own division next year.

Lebron loverman. Stop acting like Bron been clutch. He won one ring, because KD had no Fire in the NBA Finals. Now even if they beat the Pacers, SPURS ARE WINNING IT ALL, BOOK IT!!!

  • The Seed

Lebron dapping up Paul was not a smart move. Since Paul knows now, Lebron is respecting him. He will see himself as Lebron equal, which is not good for Heat. This buddy buddy stuff is wack. Lebron should not be giving an opposing team player props are acting like he is a problem for him. Like I have stated Pacers in 7.

  • Max

    That’s just not true.

  • juiceman

Which is going to kill whatever team it is that gives it because you need a well balanced team like the Pacers or you need Paul and another explosive player like a Durant/Westbrook combo in order to be successful. I love PG’s game, but he is a Joe Johnson situation waiting to happen, although he plays better d.

  • RKJ92

    My head hurts…

  • a

People still do crack hardcore like that in this day and age?

  • a

Statistically he has. He doesn’t play hero ball like your guy, who could make due with Dwight Howard and Steve Nash on his team this season.

Since LeBron came into the league in 2003-04, nobody in the NBA has made more game-tying and go-ahead shots in the final 24 seconds of playoff games than LeBron, who is 7-of-16 on those shots. His 43.8 field goal percentage on those clutch shots ranks the best in the NBA since his rookie season among players with at least 10 attempts. The league average is 28.3 percent on those shots.

  • robb

    ???????

  • pposse

cause you have a crystal ball that can tell otherwise. Players, coaches, and people who actually have paid attention to basketball know that TALENT outweighs all in the NBA. Bosh and Wade are HOFers and by Lebron’s own admission Paul George will be one of the ‘greats’ i take that as Lebron saying dude belongs in the HOF. 3 HOFers on one team will always be the favorites. Yall make it seem like i said Paul George would replace Lebron and everything he does, but did i say that? Like i said before, just replace Lebron with Melo, Paul George, Kobe, and the Heat are still the favorites.

  • pposse

thats cause he only took 16 shots in how many opportunities?! Does this stat show how many turnovers he made, or how many times he passed up a shot? Lebron is a lot of things, but he aint the guy in the league right now you give the ball to with 24 seconds or less

  • pposse

yeah Lebron didn’t have two crucial turnovers on bone headed decisions. Kick out for a three pt shot wen yall are down 2 pts. When your playing at home too.

  • RKJ92

They got it back within 1 point with 2 min remaining you fool.. after that play Dwyane Wade tried to jack up a floater to be the hero missed because he had 3 defenders draped up on him and it translated into 2 consecutive Pacer baskets to win the game.. now stop acting like you know what happened because I watched the whole game SKIP you clearly don’t know your facts.

  • RKJ92

    SO dumb.

  • The Seed

    Great Point

  • Judah1012

Different dynamic with today’s stars. Paul was at LeBron’s camp one year. They’ve been cool since then. LeBron was just letting him know that he respects him. A dap won’t make him the same caliber of player LeBron is. He can see himself as being equal to dude if he wants, it won’t change the fact that he’s not his equal. Don’t be ridiculous. If the Heat lose, it will be because Indiana is deeper and bigger and D-Wade is nowhere near healthy leaving LeBron as the only guy who can get to the basket, not because he showed Paul some respect and welcomed him into the club of great players with a fist bump.

  • Judah1012

No. Neither Melo, George, Kobe or any other star does what LeBron does. You don’t replace the best two way player and overall best player with pure scorers and think the team won’t take a step back. Melo and Kobe would take shots away from everyone else, not create for them and actually pass to them when they’re open like James does. Wade would have to take on LeBron’s role which he can do a little but not nearly as well as James does it. This idea that he is replaceable is hilarious and shows that some people really don’t watch him play enough. Neither Melo, George or Kobe are good for 50 plus wins a season regardless of the team they play for and who they’re playing with. I’d pick both Memphis and San Antonio to beat the Heat if any of those guys replaced him especially with Wade hurting.

  • Judah1012

You’re pulling really hard for a team that destroyed your team. He won a ring because he almost averaged a triple double in the Finals. Durant played very well, just didn’t and couldn’t outplay LeBron. If we’re going to go into why the Heat won a ring, then we could also go deep into Kobe’s 5 rings and talk about how and why he won them and a lot of it would be things you don’t want to read.

  • Judah1012

Chances are great those were 16 good shots and we could also talk about the open shots in those moments that he created for his teammates and he got criticized for it. Let’s not act like Kobe and Melo shoot a great percentage with those “clutch” shots. He plays great team ball. He’s going to make the right basketball play. Those guys you would give the ball to with 24 seconds or less before him? They’re all sitting at home watching. LeBron is still playing. And outside of KD, those guys you would give the ball to with 24 seconds or less? They’ve never gotten past the 1st round playing basically by themselves. James has gotten to the Finals with Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, rookie Boobie Gibson and Ilgauskas.

  • pposse

no idea but i did just pop like 15 percasets, went under anesthesia and then they gave me some more before the stuipd nurses basically kicked me out of the hospital.

  • a

Those things aren’t as relevant as accuracy, genius. Are you saying Shooting those shots and missing a lot makes you clutch? If that’s not your argument you shouldn’t have even replied to my post. If it is your argument, you know nothing about basketball. Bottom line, you are a hater and your favorite player’s best hopes for the next 5-7 seasons are being the third best player in the league. You are hating on a guy that your favorite player will never rub shoulders with career wise. Deal with it. Anytime Seed is the only person in agreement with you, you know you’re spouting nonesense. You have no proof whatsoever to back up your arguments. That says enough.

  • pposse

thats laughable, u you touched on it a bit, D Wade would assume Lebron’s role and all of those other guys would be a beast at scoring. Just cause Spo is the coach now, doesn’t mean that he has the best game plan for Miami day in and day out. Lebron dominates the ball, I blame half of that on the fact that he never had a coach who could tell him otherwise; imagine if larry brown was the Heats coach, Bron’s stats would all go down but they would be spanking teams and setting team win and defensive records

  • a

Provide us with some hardcore evidence that says Lebron is more turnover prone than Kobe or Rose. And it better be along the same vein as the numbers I posted or else sit down and be quiet. You have nothing solid to back up your opinion. That should tell you something.

  • ace

Kobe fan logic is this, ignore the numbers, ignore the abundance of talent Kobe has played with. Just bow down because the grown man mimicked every Jordan mannerism he could. Bow down because as much as he tried, he was never as great as MJ…but he chews gum like him so that counts.

  • pposse

wait so lebron didn’t commit two costly turnovers in the last minute of the game? When they were down two pts? okay buddy…

  • Judah1012

…You do know that you have to do more than score to win, right? Let’s say that you’re right and Spo doesn’t have the best game plan each night (I’d argue that he actually does have pretty good game plans)…you’d take Melo and Kobe over LeBron as decision-makers? Ehhh. We all know what they’re going to do 8 times out of 10 when they get the ball. And is LeBron dominating the ball a bad thing? I mean, he has won 60 plus games 3 times dominating the ball. 3 Finals appearances, 1 Finals win. 4 MVPs. If Larry Brown was coaching, I’m not sure the Heat offense would look any different. He did coach Iverson who dominated the ball and took worse shots than LeBron does. He also coached the Pistons to a championship with no superstar player. If he were coaching the Heat, they’d play great defense as they already do. And their offense would still be great given that he would be coaching a much more talented team offensively than he’s ever coached. He never coached a player like LeBron. Dude who is famous for wanting his teams to “play the right way”? LeBron is the ultimate guy for that.

  • Bug

It’s Percocet, and no none of that happened. Narcotic painkillers aren’t given in that quantity in short periods of time–even if they were only 5/325–and certainly not before going under general anesthesia. You getting a tooth pulled under local, and taking two Tylenol does not account for the stupidity of that Lebron statement.

  • Judah1012

We should all be offended that Skip Bayless is even mentioned on a site like SLAM online. His name has no place here, you should know that. LeBron did commit two terrible turnovers. Two great defensive plays by the Pacers who are a great defensive team. But where people are off is when they talk as if LeBron played a bad game. Nah, just two bad turnovers. He’s in a bind because he can play a great 40 minutes and be the main reason why his team is even in the game at the end, but have a bad play or two and get a lot of criticism. The man has been criticized for passing to teammates who made game-winning or game-tying shots. But other guys who are said to be better in clutch moments can be carried by their teammates when they’re having bad shooting nights, make a shot or two under pressure and get praised for being clutch performers. Even with 8-25 shooting nights. Just the way it is. You also have to remember that there are people who can’t wait for him to have a bad moment, as few as they are, so that they can pick at it. You won’t hear anything from them when the Heat win.

  • RKJ92

Oh ya I know.. I couldn’t have said it better myself! good points man :)

  • RKJ92

You think Paul George is better then LeBron James like just shut the f*ck up.. your a joke. Nobody is listening to you.

  • pposse

just had acl reconstruction surgery, and yes it did happen since thursday i been taking atleast 2 every 4 hours for pain.

  • pposse

16 shots over ten years means aboslutely nothing. i watched bron since his first ever nba game, for you guys to say that he is a great clutch player cause he is 7/16 since 03 is silly thats like attempting 2 shots a game. your stat doesnt account for the times he passed, or turned the ball over

  • pposse

lol no one said paul george is better than bron thats where your young, i said a team with george bosh and wade are championship contenders/ favorites

  • TR

I thought bosh was decent last night, but the team has been garbage besides LeBron and birdman in game 1

  • pposse

the answer to your question is No. ive seen lebron in crunch time from the beginning, and im not talking about the last 24 seconds or whatever, just him during crunch time, whether that is with 5 mins left in a tightly contested game or 2 minutes. He doesnt have eye popping stats in those situations. His play is like all other ball players. No way should there be a unanimous decision on lebron being the guy to take the last shot or make the decision imo.

  • RKJ92

    Shhh.

  • Caboose

    ….wtf?

  • roscoe

    completely disagree…

that was another “Bron bron & KD go to camp together” moment.

    you’re soft lloyD

  • Max

Do you have a crystal ball that can tell you what would happen?
95% of the people think what you just said is stupid.
    -
If you replace Lebron by Paul George, and PG by Lebron.
The Pacers would be the favorites.
Do they have 3 future HOF’ers? No.
But it’s Lebron that makes the the favorite, not the suporting cast (even tho they are really good around Lebron).

  • pposse

i clearly stated that the Pacers with Lebron instead of Paul George would be ‘disgusting’ reread what i said, i put that in there on purpose. I’m no fool. Just yesterday yall were in here debating saying how Wade was potentially a first team All NBA and Paul George should have been on the second team All NBA. Give me talent over anything in the NBA, its a proven formula, that has won championships year in and year out. Makes no difference to me if its Lebron playing with all the talent or D Wade playing with all the talent.

  • Max

DWade, Paul George and Bosh would not be the favorites.
OKC or the Spurs would be.
The biggest advantage the Heat have is they always have the best player.
If they would face the Thunder, Durant and Westbrook would be that.

  • Bug

If it’s 2 tabs q 4 hours hours then you took maximum 8 in a day. Not nearly enough to excuse that ridiculous comment.

  • a

You did imply that they brought equal value to a team, which is at least saying they are equal. That’s just as dumb.

  • a

So provide proof. That’s all I’m asking. You say it’s like he’s taking two shots a year, when we’re talking game deciding shots here. Provide us with proof that he passed on more clutch shots than most players in the league. What numbers do you have to support that notion? Perception and fact are two different things. You say you’ve watch Lebron since his first NBA game like you’re the only one on a basketball website who has. Sorry but that’s not a good enough argument.

  • Judah1012

You’ve been holding on to this LeBron/KD thing for a while from what I can tell. You’re out of your mind. LeBron and KD both had great seasons. They both got better. Nothing wrong with them working out together.

  • Judah1012

Also have to take into account how many times a clutch shot actually needed to be taken in games he’s played in. Don’t know if that stat exists, but if his teams have only needed 30 shots in clutch moments, him taking 16 and making great passes to open teammates the other 14 times isn’t bad at all. Wild to criticize him for making the best play instead of taking a crazy shot with 2 or 3 people on him just to show people that he’s not afraid of taking it. I’ve watched him since high school. I watched him make a huge layup and get a triple double in his first playoff game against the Wizards. Also watched him make a great pass to Damon Jones for a game-winning shot against the Wizards. I can think of more times when he came through than when he didn’t in the 4th quarter. Not everyone wants to be like Jordan. Stop falling in love with the highlights of him hitting big shots as if everyone after him has to do it too or they’re not legit. Some guys just want to win the game regardless of how it gets done. How many game-winning shots did Magic hit? Is he any less of a legend because of it?

  • pposse

here’s an article about it..Bron has been exceptional THIS year, but the two years before this year, not so much. This year his play has been off the charts and I am not denying that, but I’m not forgetting where he is coming from; for the record i dont think Kobe or Melo are more clutch than Bron..Durant would be the guy i give the ball too in the waning moments of a game

Whats really crazy is, that you are comparing a guy, that is really
good, but hasn’t accomplished anything with a 4time MVP NBAChamp…,
because he got the better end in this game. Are you really serious???

PG really has to win a lot of playoff battles to come near LeBron.

He is good, but he hasn’t won ANYTHING yet. So lets wait with comparing these two.

  • initbruv

    lol

  • speedy

Heat will regain homecourt advantage today.

  • Judah1012

Nah, not the whole 2011 season. He hit big shots against the Celtics in the 2nd round and the Bulls in the Conference Finals that season. Not only did he hit big shots against the Bulls but he shut down D-Rose when it was necessary to do so. The biggest moment he didn’t come through was in the Finals that season. That gets blown up because of how big the stage was and because the Heat were favored to win over the Mavs. Off the top of my head I can name huge games he played both in Cleveland and Miami when he needed to and I can only name a few times when he disappeared.

NBA greats and anaylst have stated this too. New dynamic or not. You talk good about the opponent after the game, not give him props during the game. Lebron is just too friendly for my taste, KD too. I miss the old NBA.

  • Judah1012

Magic Johnson also said last night that he understands today’s players and it’s a different time. But I guess you didn’t see that part. Jalen Rose also saw no problem with it. So people have different opinions. No right or wrong in it. Is what it is.

Not at all. Lebron and KD working out together irked me because they were helping each other out when they should be trying to crush each other.

This was just a fleeting moment of greatness aknowledging greatness in the midst of war. Both players still finished hard (George moreso than Bron) and the series is still chippy as hell.
