Milwaukee Bucks Reportedly Targeting Stan Van Gundy

According to multiple reports, the Milwaukee Bucks are expected to interview Stan Van Gundy and Kelvin Sampson for their recently vacated head coaching position. It might be tough for the Bucks, however, to convince SVG to take the job. Per the Orlando Sentinel: “Van Gundy spent three seasons coaching at the University of Wisconsin, the first two as an assistant coach to Stu Jackson and the 1994-95 season as the Badgers’ head coach. After so many years living in Florida, returning to Milwaukee and its cold weather would present a dramatic change. On Dec. 4, 2010, prior to a Magic road game against the Bucks, I asked Van Gundy whether returning to Wisconsin brought back fond memories. ‘As soon as I walk outside, no,’ Van Gundy said, a smile on his face. ‘I want to get back to Florida. When I’m inside, yeah. Look, I enjoyed my years here, and there’s a lot of good people here and everything else … I laugh about it, but I don’t miss the weather. I don’t miss the weather at all.’ There are perhaps many elements about the Bucks that Van Gundy would respect. I’d guess Van Gundy admires how the Bucks have made some aggressive moves in recent years to get into the Eastern Conference playoff picture rather than bottom out. Milwaukee will own the Bird Rights of free agent-to-be J.J. Redick, who liked playing for Van Gundy and whom Van Gundy respects.”
