Vinny Del Negro Critical of DeAndre Jordan’s Effort

Before getting dominated inside by Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph in Game 5 last night, DeAndre Jordan took a verbal beatdown from his coach. Vinny Del Negro ripped DeAndre’s effort in his pregame comments to the press. Per the LA Daily News: “I don’t know if crossroads is the right (word) but there’s definitely a level you have to play at right now that is much different,’ Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. ‘He has a much different responsibility now. He understands it. I haven’t seen the consistency that I like. He hasn’t seen the consistency he would like.’ [...] ‘I didn’t see him controlling the game the way I thought he needed to, and at that stage you have to go with someone you feel can,’ Del Negro said. ‘Maybe Ryan Hollins could have played a few more minutes after looking at the tape. But those are decisions that are made during the heat of the battle, and you go with your rotation as best you can. At this stage of the game you want to stay with your rotation, but if they’re not being productive, you have to look at other guys you have confidence in, that have produced throughout the series.’ [...] Del Negro listed what he expected from Jordan. ‘Defensively, offensively, being a threat out there on the glass, using his length, athleticism,’ Del Negro said. ‘But it’s up to him to get out there and earn his minutes and work through anything that’s thrown at him during the game.’”

(Denny Green voice) “They’re built for flash and alley-oops against lesser teams, but not built to grind out a 7 game series against equal talent. They ain’t bout that life! They’re the Clippers … they were who we thought they were!”

    Vinny Del Negro……..

    .

“‘I didn’t see him controlling the game the way I thought he needed to, and at that stage you have to go with someone you feel can,”

—– WHAT? there is no big man on your roster that can do that….

“‘Maybe Ryan Hollins could have played a few more minutes after looking at the tape.”

—– WHAT? Ryan Hollins should not be playing in any playoff series, ever. Now you expect him to “control the game”? REALLY?

    .

” At this stage of the game you want to stay with your rotation, but if they’re not being productive, you have to look at other guys you have confidence in, that have produced throughout the series.’”

—– WHAT? Ryan Hollins has been playing 11 minutes, and he hasn’t been more productive than DeAndre at any point… http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/LAC/2013.html

Oh well, this pretty much illustrated Vinny Del Negro as a coach pretty perfectly.

Yeah exactly like last year. ….oh wait.

Clippers are soft as Charmin, not built for the playoffs. After getting swept last year they find themselves in an even tougher series that they aren’t going to win. Flashy plays can only go so far.

with Griffin out on game 6, I won’t be expecting much from the Clippers in the paint.

Denny Green in the building!!! The Clippers bigs have to accept that Z-Bo and Gasol are going to get theirs. Both Griff and Jordan have to improve their body language and keep their heads in the game. Quick inbounds so the Clips can run and get transition 3′s. They seem to be unable to spread the floor in the halfcourt set so Griff has to use his newfound midrange game to open things up for the cutters, if not things become too stagnant. Jordan has to put pressure on the bigs down low and force foul trouble. Memphis defensive weakness is at the rim IMO. It has to be exploited by athleticism, especially in the first half. Every Z-Bo Gasol basket should be followed up by a forcing a foul by them on the other end. They have the personel to keep attacking the rim. There’s just too much ball domination by CP3 in these 3 losses. Didn’t he have 4 assists all game, that’s unacceptable.

Haha Vinny’s rotations can be head scratching sometimes. I don’t know why he has to play all four of his big men. It’s not little league. Not everyone has to play. By now, you should know who your best guys are and just roll with it. It’s the playoffs. It’s not the time to experiment with your lineups. And that panicked expression on his face doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

Willie Green getting no burn whatsoever is also unacceptable. Chauncey should not be starting or be relied upon for offense for that matter. Not against this backcourt.

They’re about to take a step back in their 2nd year of being together with a better team. Not good. DeAndre needs to get a post move or two and work on his free throws so that he can stay in the game in the 4th quarter. Del Negro will be gone. So the DeAndre problem will be someone else’s to deal with.

I’m actually disappointed with your coaching, Vinny. How in hell did you ensure Bledsoe didn’t get any significant burn and burn out CP3 by the time Q4 came around? How the hell did you manage to NOT think of going small and forcing Randolph out to the perimeter where he’s weak to say the least and change their game?

Oh wait……it’s the Clippers……..They always manage to screw it up somehow.

    OVERRATED

“‘Maybe Ryan Hollins could have played a few more minutes after looking at the tape.” He should have been fired on the spot for that comment alone.

DeAndre actually has a nice jumphook and decent post moves but they don’t run anything for him. He has decent touch by the rim but not at the free throw line. With big men you have to at least let them touch the ball so that they will be engaged, if not they will quit on you.

OVERPAID, is anyone really saying he is good, outside of dunking on fools

  • Mariano

A very poor man’s Dwight Howard

  • KevinJohnsonFan

He’s better this year than he was last year, but he has a long way to go to be consistent enough to the point where anything can be run for him especially in the playoffs. But Vinny Del Negro’s give the ball to Chris Paul and see what happens offense is the main problem.

  • Max

I was thinking of something between the 2.
    Overraid maybe?
I know there must be alot of people out there who think he’s a good defensive player.

  • spit hot fiyah

overraid! i like it. kosta koufos, underraid

  • Max

haha, this playoffs he’s been weiner tho.

  • spit hot fiyah

yeah he hasn’t shown up. but during the regular season, his and dj’s numbers were nearly identical, and i think he makes less than 3 mill

Last year ZBo was hurt, to be clear. But, I think Shock Exchange is still wrong. The Clippers could and should beat the Grizzlies based on talent. But, the Grizzlies know exactly who they are as a team and play to their strengths. The clippers are still trying to figure things out.

  • danpowers

thank you so much for that

  • bill

There’s a reason Del Negro is getting replaced next year(my speculation)

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    lol why?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

the Clippers have been chomping at the bit to get rid of the guy since they got Chris Paul

  • shockexchange

AllenP, the Clippers may not know who they are as a team but Denny Green sure does – “They were who we thought they were!”

  • danpowers

that was pretty much how i felt when i read the headline and nobody couldve said it better than you lol

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Lol well I appreciate that man

  • Ugh

Reading that I assumed that comparing DeAndre to Ryan was meant to motivate DeAndre to play better than crap.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i don’t give VDN enough credit to do that. And i also don’t at all think comparing someone to Ryan Hollins is more than an insult.
