Cavs Reportedly Offered Top Draft Pick and Two Players for Kevin Love

The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly not too excited about having the top NBA Draft pick, and they’d like to flip the pick for a star player. According to ESPN, the Cavs tried to swing a Kevin Love trade, but the Minnesota Timberwolves weren’t trying to hear that: “The Cleveland Cavaliers are down to a final list of three players for the No. 1 pick and hope to make a decision by Thursday morning, according to a source. The list is expected to include Alex Len, Nerlens Noel and either Otto Porter or Ben McLemore. […] But the Cavs are also exploring trading the top pick since they’re not in love with any one player who in a ‘normal’ year wouldn’t be a top pick. According to a source, Cleveland offered the No. 1 pick, Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters to try and land Minnesota’s Kevin Love. But new Timberwolves president Flip Saunders won’t move Love. The Cavs are fond of Thompson and Waiters — the latter being one of the top six rookies last season — but Cleveland would love to get an All-Star forward to pair with All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving. The problem for Cleveland is there aren’t any takers for the top pick at the moment.”

Pepsi is pissed. This was going to be the third episode of Uncle Drew

  • Redd

    Pretty decent trade actually.

i like this from the cavs side, they are basically telling irving, we are trying to win now. they realize that they came up by drafting irving who can be a franchise guy if he stays healthy. not often a franchise get s back to back franchise guys. they don’t want to see this one leave

I don’t like it. I still have faith in the Love/Pek front court to be deadly

Next year is the year to have the number 1 pick. This draft is full of potentially good NBA players, not sure I see a superstar waiting to happen. If anyone is close, it’s McLemore.

I’d love to see Uncle Drew and Old Man Wes team up…
    “That’s the pocket pass”

I think the Cavs forget that David Kahn is no longer GM of the Timberwolves. What a bogus trade; it’s lopsided and in favor of the Cavs. The GM who accepts such a deal should be hung by his testicles.

We’d get to see if KLove and Kyrie would actually get some wins.

Which means the Cavs fear the same thing as everyone else does now: not a single dam game changer in this draft. At. All.

man I would be so bummed this didn’t happen if I were Love, definitely think playing with Kyrie in Cleveland is better than Rubio in Minny

I like this, but man, that Cavs team would be horrible defensively. What about the #1 pick for Iggy? If the Cavs aren’t sure about the pick, get an All-Star, All- D SF which they desperately need. I think Iggy could be a reliable second option. Failing that, I think Oladipo is the way to go. I like him more than Waiters already, and maybe you could package Waiters off to someone for a vet. Cavs could absorb Iggy’s contract btw, and Nuggs would get a decent salary relief… Who says no? I’d guess Denver, if they’re trying to emulate next year.

Tristan Thompson, dion waiters and the number 1 pick for Pau Gasol.

  • Mike From Spain

Sure, he’d get less touches, and the porous perimeter defense would expose him more

When the best player in a trade is the one leaving your team, it is not a good sign. So, two picks in a notoriously weak draft plus a player… well, no offense to the Cavs but the caliber of the players that they can offer is not that great

K Love wont stay in Minn long term, I dont see Minn getting a better offer for him.

  • theDankerNuggets

Kyrie is a top 5 point guard right now, Rubio is maybe top 10. Maybe he would get a little less touches (maybe he wouldn’t he was already taking less in Minny last year), but if he wants to be on a contender playing with a guy like Kyrie would be a better situation.

People saying MN won’t get a better offer or that two bench warmers and a pick is a great haul for him, don’t get that before breaking his hand he had improved continuously from his first season, and that he’s in a conversation for top 5 PF in the league, at a time when that position is stacked.
