Cavs Reportedly Offering Celtics Two Second Round Draft Picks For Paul Pierce

The Doc Rivers/Kevin Garnett trade to the Clippers may be dead, but we still know this: The Celtics are open to making moves this summer. The latest rumor, courtesy of the News-Herald, is that the Cavs have approached the Celts about putting together a package of picks in exchange for Paul Pierce: “The Cavs have likely spoken to the Celtics about small forward Paul Pierce’s availability. The latest rumor is the Cavs offering their two second-round picks for the 35-year-old Pierce. Pierce’s $15.3 million contract for next year would become guaranteed if he’s dealt.”

You linked to the Boston Herald but it leads you to a Cleveland beat reporter’s article.

    Why is Cleveland doing this…

  • spit hot fiyah

they are in official tank mode if they trade the face of their franchise for the last 15 years for 2 second rounders

  • LP @ThisisEther

With This weak draft, those 2 picks most likely mean nothing for the Cavs, they don’t need MORE experimental young guys…. They could stand to use pierce to get them 15-17pts a night….and a Veteran guy for their young players to be around….. They might win a few more games also… As it stands now, they are an unattractive free agent landing spot that won’t be winning too many games anytime soon unless they make some changes…

Not to mention he comes off the books next year and I think they have the cap space to play around….

  • LP @ThisisEther

And they should’ve grabbed Harrison Barnes when they had the chance last year, they wouldn’t even have to think about getting a 3man

  • spit hot fiyah

if he will only help them win a few more games, do they really want that? that might just mean a worse pick in the best draft in years. it will also cost them 15 million for a year of work. yes he comes of the books after next season, but he is not even on the books to begin with if they don’t trade for him.

2 first round picks… such a slap in the face for Pierce.

  • Roy Blumenfeld

I would hate to see Pierce leave Boston, especially as a salary dump. I understand it is business at the end of the day but that just isn’t right!

  • JML-G

Celtics would curse themselves for next 30 years if they trade Pierce to Cavs or any other team that isnt nowhere close to contending!

  • Stainless

doc just flipped to LA, KG soon to follow…

  • spit hot fiyah

just saw it, so yeah, official tank mode

  • Mike Gilbert

    ummmm 2nd rounders….

  • Stainless

    yeah, caught my mistake.

  • Mike Gilbert

it’s really not a weak draft, there are a lot of quality players to be found

  • Mike Gilbert

it gives them a chance to make the playoffs…something that small market teams who haven’t been to the playoffs in years can’t afford to pass up

  • LP @ThisisEther

a lot hit or miss talents….who knows who will be quality and who won’t

  • LP @ThisisEther

yea it might be worth it to win a few games…they can’t just keep being awful every year…gotta keep players happy too….Kyrie won’t be happy with 3 awful seasons in a row…

  • JL

but the best situation for a rebuild is to get a draft pick and salary cap relief for a rebuilding team. Pierce is too expensive and old to stick around for a rebuilding.

  • slamonthis

Whatever the situation is Paul Pierce will always be a Celtics. He already said he’ll retire as a Celtics. But, it is a slap on the face. I think Danny Ainge should be on the trading block first.

  • pposse

scouts, thats what they get paid for!

  • KB

From everything I’ve seen Danny Ainge isn’t that good of a GM. He got lucky early on with KG an Ray, only because they were at a crossroads with their old teams. It’s not like he made some brilliant plan to get both of them. The only other good move he’s made is trading Perkins for Jeff Green, but it seems like for some reason he’s regarded as a good GM.

  • Basketball Coach

LOL yeah, he is getting old..

  • Ugh

I agree entirely, except I think even the Green for Perkins deal can’t be said to have paid off for the Celtics. Sure, Green has more productive advanced metrics (and better basic stats), but he hasn’t really got them as far as they went with Perk.

  • Roy Blumenfeld

I completely get why Ainge is considering it. The thought of Pierce anywhere else is just weird to me.

  • Wanda Davidson

like Sylvia explained I didn’t even know that a single mom can profit $4908 in a few weeks on the internet. did you see this page www.KEP2.com

  • Bandwagonfan

Kyrie to miami. His girlfriend lives there lol

  • Lloyd

That Green for Perkins trade was in the middle of a Celtics championship run. He traded away their defensive anchor and their instant offense off the bench, Nate Robinson, for a dude who couldn’t play for a year (and the Great Nenad Krstic), all while knowing that their core was aging and had a limited window of championship caliber years left in them. Now seeing the state of the C’s, you can’t even say it was a nice “big picture” trade. Hardly a “good move”.

  • Clos1881

I would have hung up the phone with no words said

  • Clos1881

Nah he drafted rondo and Avery Bradley also signed doc rivers Danny ainge is a good gm

  • Clos1881

That only was a factor because shaq got hurt prior to that shaq was out playing perk and perk was coming off a acl
