Dallas Mavericks Reportedly Discussing Rajon Rondo Trade

According to multiple published reports, the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics have engaged in preliminary talks involving star point guard Rajon Rondo. The Mavs are active this offseason, but it won’t be easy to swing a deal for Rondo. Per the Boston Globe: “The Dallas Mavericks, looking to make one final championship run in the Dirk Nowitzki era and looking for a lure to attract Dwight Howard, are interested in acquiring Rajon Rondo from the Celtics, according to an NBA source. Rondo, who has two years left on his contract at a total of $25 million, is considered now the central cornerstone of the Celtics with Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett headed to the Brooklyn Nets. President of basketball operations Danny Ainge told reporters Thursday the club is planning to build around Rondo and he will not be traded. When asked if he was comfortable with Rondo as the team’s centerpiece, Ainge said: ‘Yes we are. There’s guys we’re not looking to move right now.’ When asked if one of those players was Rondo, Ainge said: ‘Yeah.’”

He’s young, his contract is reasonable and he’s not the kind of player that can single-handedly lift a team into the playoffs and out of the draft. I don’t think the Celtics need to trade him to rebuild, although an expiring contract and a couple high draft picks would make them reconsider in a hurry.

agreed, good enough to build around but a good offer will make you consider a trade, specially with the situation the celtics are in right now.

Rondo to the Mav’s… why not. I think Rondo is UNDERRATED. having watched him play some of the best basketball I have ever seen in the playoffs, it is a lock that if you make it to the post season with him, his value is exponentially greater than it was midseason… For all the criticism he takes Rondo’s bball IQ is unparalleled in the league today, save for only Lebron… I know I will take hate for this, but Rondo would have taken it for me.

Great choice. But will he fit with the Mavs?

I could totally see him as a Bull or a Pacer. Or a Grizzly.

but dallas doesnt have high draft picks…..

  • Ugh

Yeah, the Bulls totally need a new PG. Same with the Grizz.

I agree in terms of basketball IQ, he and CP3 have the highest IQ as far as I’m concerned, Lebron comes in a close third.

Yeah, suffice it to say that I don’t think he’s going to the Mavs.

You’re not as much of a hater as you often appear to be. Nice to see that you actually do have fair opinions.

Boston needs to bring back Antoine Walker and Ricky Davis.

In terms of bigs he could be paired with, I don’t know how great of a combo him and Dirk is.
