Denver Nuggets ‘Very Optimistic’ They Can Re-Sign Free Agent Andre Iguodala

According to Tim Connelly, the young new GM in Denver, there’s little reason to worry about Andre Iguodala becoming an unrestricted free agent this summer. The The Nuggets expect to retain their star forward. Per the Denver Post: “Connelly, 36, was hired this week from New Orleans, where he was an assistant GM. He hasn’t met with all of the players on the Denver roster, although he knows a few already. But he has talked to Andre Iguodala, who has been working out at the Pepsi Center. Iguodala will be an unrestricted free agent when free agency begins in July. Contract negotiations can start July 1. Contracts can be signed beginning July 10. The Nuggets want Iguodala back. ‘I’m very optimistic,’ Connelly said. ‘I’m very aware of the free-agent landscape. In New Orleans, we had about $14 million to spend; a small forward might be a position we looked at, so I’m aware of what potential lies out there for him. I think he’d be hard-pressed to find a more attractive situation than ours, and I think he feels the same way. He’s a key cog to an excellent team. I feel great about getting him back into uniform.’ Is the feeling mutual between the Nuggets and Iguodala? ‘Absolutely,’ Connelly said. ‘He’s here working out. I think that speaks to where his heart is at. He’s such a pro. I look forward to knowing him more as a person. I think when you see a guy working out a week before the draft, it shows you where he wants to be.’”

where do u think he goes

    Houston, Dallas, or Atlanta.

I can see Cuban rolling out the red carpet for Iggy, yes indeed.

Yeah, i figure the same thing if he misses out on Paul and/or Howard.
    .
Houston likes playing Chandler Parsons at the 4. If they miss out on Dwight, I think Iguodala is their next target. He’s an advanced stats superstar, and Daryl Morey is pressing the buttons over there.
    .
Atlanta is in the same boat as Dallas. Iguodala fits nicely next to Horford, and won’t cost so much that they don’t have room for another player to help shore things up.

But I thought Atlanta was getting Dwight and CP?? (sarcasm)
ATL is like that girl who is a 7, and very intelligent…but her two best friends just happen to be dimepieces. She’s not a bad choice, but she’ll never get picked above the other options

i wouldn’t totally rule out the Dwight thing. If Houston doesn’t woo him like they probably will, Atlanta will have a major chance at grabbing him. It might mean, getting rid of Horford and resigning Josh Smith, but it will be a relevant option.

Dwight’s marketing stock would take huge hit if he went to ATL; I don’t think the suits in his camp actually want him there. The appeal of LA and Houston I can understand, money and contention-wise, but I just can’t see ATL with an honest chance over the begging Lakers and the salivating Rockets.

    he’s from Atlanta.

  • shawnkemp4prez

Yes, but America doesn’t care because ATL isn’t a “sexy” sports town. Houston typically wouldn’t be either, but they have a couple of young media darlings and people always want the next best thing. Houston represents the future. The Lakers represent tradition. ATL represents…Waffle House. It would seem to be the lesser of options

Only if you know marketing is the driving force behind his decision. Which I don’t think it is.

yeah i said houston not long ago, i thought it was a pretty good fit. he can get up and down and hit the three at a respectable %. he could also make up for some of their non existing perimeter defense.

  • Caboose

Hometown + Childhood friend + Keys to the offense. ATL is very realistic.

  • yeee

he should go to San Antonio him , Parker , Leonard n green off the bench is deadly
