Dwyane Wade Says Miami Heat Shooting for a Three-Peat

After next season, the focus will shift to the contracts of the Miami Heat’s Big Three, which they can all opt out of. For now, though, Dwyane Wade says the aim is winning a third straight NBA championship. Per the Miami Herald: “LeBron James — who, like teammates Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, can opt out of contracts and become free agents in the summer of 2014 — was noncommittal when asked about that topic by CNN. ‘I don’t know, because I haven’t really even thought about it,’ James said in an interview that aired Monday. ‘So when that moment comes up, I will approach it, like a professional, and we’ll see what happens.’ […] Bosh said recently he wants to spend the rest of his career here. And Wade said Monday he will probably be in Miami ‘for the rest of my life, in this amazing city.’ [...] Wade spoke Monday and said the three players have not discussed their long-term plans, ‘just like we never even envisioned we would play together until free agency came about, and it became a reality. Now, we’re in the middle of this great, historic team and run and we’re enjoying it and you don’t want it to come to an end. But you can’t think about the future. When that time comes after next season, when we have to sit down and talk about the futures and what direction they’re going in, hopefully they’re all going in the same direction. We’ll do what we did in 2010 — sit down as men and talk about it.’ An associate of James said he would make Miami the strong favorite to retain him in 2014, with Cleveland potentially also drawing some consideration. But the associate also cautioned that a year before free agency in 2010, nobody would have made the Heat the front-runner. […] ‘Magic Johnson has five rings, and he never won three in a row,’ Wade said. ‘That shows how tough it is. We’re going to be back next year hungry again to try to place ourselves in history. Winning back-to-backs is special; winning back to back to back would be something out of this world. That will be our goal: How do we come back and muster up enough to keep us focused and … hungry throughout this season to get back in a position to win another championship?’”

    No sh1t, Sherlock.

Can you imagine? “Dwyane Wade says Miami Heat are not interested in making history with 3-peat.” or “Average Joe not interested in Turkey after 2 consecutive strikes.”

  • spit hot fiyah

We understood that when u celebrated before playing a single game

  • pposse

i call bs on d wades quote. “just like we never even envisioned we would play together until free agency” – if you didn’t envision playing together beforehand then don’t bring it up; those are traits of liars. Buddy is getting all defensive when no one even asked you a question about it, this is what all liars do.

  • Ugh

It’s that time of year when there’s SFA to report.

  • http://www.netstakeover.com/ JetSkiJohnson

its gonna be extremely harder for them next year.

  • Mike Gilbert

Interesting. I would have thought they wouldn’t want to win another.

  • OfftheWall87

Our resident perpetual Heat hater. He actually was asked a question. He answered it. What are you whining about now? How was he defensive at all?

  • OfftheWall87

They need a center. Just someone to rebound and protect the rim.

  • pposse

lol sorry couldn’t help myself. But he was asked a question about their future in 2014 and responded something along the lines of “i dont know” but then continued on with no provocation to say “just like we didn’t know we’d be together in 2010 until free agency” – there is no need to bring it up, no direct question was asked of 2010 free agency to d wade, it looks as if he is trying to revise history.

  • OfftheWall87

He’s a grown man. He answered the question the way he wanted to answer it. Unless you know for a fact that he said something untrue, it’s not wise to say he’s trying to revise history.

  • lights out

i’d be very surprised if they didn’t three-peat. you can never count out san antonio, but i have a hard time seeing them being better next year, and who else is there, really? ’cause it won’t be the thunder.

**Might as well start the hype train now…

  • Lloyd

    Not 4? Not 5? Not 6? Not 7?

  • Lloyd

Even this year was a, “who else is there” post season. The Heat winning was a given, what we had to do was just watch how they got there. The Spurs surprised a lot of people but I can’t see them going on this miracle run with Duncan being one year older and Danny Green being consistenly unmissable.

No way. I sincerely thought they would scale down their goals for next season to losing in a hotly contested ECF to 2014 MVP Paul George and the Hansborough Brothers.

  • mean

    They need Al Jefferson

  • bike

Not if Kobe Motherfuc*in Bryant has anything to say about it.

  • Basketball_iQ

Pposse is right,,, they discussed being teammates during the 08 Olympics. At the same time amare, cp3, & Melo did too… No one asked him that.

  • Basketball_iQ

Dwade or Bosh is out of there….. The lockout went extra long bc Miami put this team together and it was meant to eventually break them up,,, OKC however had the first casualty losing Harden,,,, you can no longer have 3max contracts on the same team,, championship or not, your business will lose money more than it gains.

  • 23

Every team could use more rebounding. But Miami is very good defensively all around already. Their #1 need is an inside SCORING presence.

  • TR

Couldnt they all just take less money?

  • OfftheWall87

If they put Bosh in the post more (especially when Wade and LeBron aren’t on the floor) instead of having him shoot jumpshots, they’d have it. So the potential for that is there. They have no one who has the potential to block shots or rebound at a high level consistently.

  • roscoe

too bad Dwade won’t be on the team.

  • OfftheWall87

Proof of that conversation they had? Where was Amar’e during the Melo and CP3 discussions because he wasn’t in Beijing with them.

  • Anthony Darnello Taylor Jr.

His body spoke for him already

  • Anthony Darnello Taylor Jr.

Right its a little thing called reflection and I think he’s entitled to it. Lol

  • Anthony Darnello Taylor Jr.

Love the guy but can he run with or takeca pay cut.

    All aboard!

  • LP @ThisisEther

They don’t have 3 max contracts on one team….

  • OfftheWall87

He hasn’t had anything to say since 2010.

  • Enigmatic

I bet no one wants a three-peat more than Pat Riley, considering 1) it’d be his team winning, obviously and 2) the royalty checks dude would get on all the merchandise since he trademarked the term.

  • Max Ireland

    Hahaha two excellent calls

  • danpowers

oh really? i thought he would say something like “ah f*ck it guys, 3 rings are enough. let the others win some rings, too”.

  • Joshua Maria Peter Bautista

  • ak

Then they should have beaten Dallas.
