Grant Hill Has Retired

Back in April, Grant Hill said this was likely his final season in the NBA. Tonight, the 40-year-old future Hall of Famer (with career averages of 16.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game) announced that this was indeed the end after 19 seasons. The seven-time All-Star broke the news on TNT, prior to Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals between Miami and Indiana. Per USA Today: “The last four or five years I would take about a month (after the season to decide to continue) and within a month, if I still wanted to do it, I would. Putting it simply, after a month, I just realized I didn’t want to play anymore,’ Hill said. ‘There’s a lot of reasons for that, but you know when you know. It just felt right. I’m excited and looking forward to moving on and doing other things. I worked hard. I put a lot into it, and I enjoyed every minute of it. But now is the time to move on. I feel great physically. It’s important to go out feeling good, particularly considering all the setbacks I had health-wise throughout my career.’ [...] ‘I’m just glad I was able to keep working,’ Hill said of his injuries. ‘When doctors told me I was done, I was able to get another 10 years. I’m very grateful for that.’”

His knees retired a loooooong time ago

one of the classiest dudes; also one of the many “what if?” careers we’ve seen due to injuries

True Warrior. I love this guy. Seriously, when G came into the league, dude was wreaking havoc on everybody. As a blessing and a curse, he got tagged as the “next Jordan”, and injuries robbed him of his potential. Now every 6’6, 6’7 player thinks he’s the ish. Go rewind some Grant Hill tapes from Duke to his Detroit days with those teal, Vancouver Grizzles looking joints and watch LeBron before ‘LeBron’.

    Nuff respect due.

This guy would have been THE best player in the league had it not been for his injuries. He and penny and T-Mac , its always the best dudes that get injured. His career averages are still good considering the past 12 years he s been a role player- makes u realise what he was doin in his prime. he s the missing link between pippen and lebron- like the evolutionary step in bballing style for the premier small forward. I dunno about hall-of-fame though- maybe 2nd call, like mullin or something, but i don’t think he s a first balloter.

HOF in my book; Was very similar to Lebron offensively pre-Heat.

ALot of respect for him because he kept working after all those injuries even tho he’d know that he would never be the same.
And he still could have been a solid contributor to a contender up untill last year.

    95-96: 20.2 ppg / 9.8 rpg / 6.9 apg
    96-97: 21.4 ppg / 9.0 rpg / 7.3 apg

dude has had some eye-popping statistical seasons, you could argue that he was the first Magic-Michael hybrid and not LeBron

Class act, plus he never gave up on basketball, although he had all the money in the world. He wasn’t going to let the game go, because he loved it and I respect that.

    Top 2 moments:
    1. Collecting a Michael Jordan basketball card.
    2. Collecting a Grant Hill basketball card.

  • MikeC.

He’ll make it in. His Duke career and Olympic Gold is enough to get in.

  • spit hot fiyah

i don’t think it qualifies as a collection if it is only one card

  • Slick ric

Yep, that and the fact he made seven all-star games while be an All-Nba team caliber player for five years before the injuries.

I am happy to see him retire. Finally!

There has never been a classier player in the league than Grant Hill!!! The league owners had better woo this guy for their front offices, because he has a lot of experience and could have a great effect on a lot of players.
