Knicks Attempting to Trade Steve Novak, Marcus Camby to Raptors For Andrea Bargnani (UPDATE)

Nobody saw this one coming (at least from the Knicks’ end), but here you go: The Raptors are dealing Andrea Bargnani to the Knicks in exchange for Steve Novak, Marcus Camby and a few Draft picks. Per Yahoo!: “The Toronto Raptors are finalizing an agreement on a trade to send former No. 1 overall pick Andrea Bargnani to the New York Knicks, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Knicks will send their 2016 first-round pick to the Raptors, and a package that includes Marcus Camby and Steve Novak, league sources said. The Knicks will also send two future second-round picks to Toronto, sources said. For new Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri, the deal finally unloads the two years, $22 million left on the contract of the underachieving 7-foot forward.”

And per Howard Beck:

What the hell sense does this make for the Knicks?? Am I missing something here?

  • aндрій базилевич

retire a raptor , amen . knicks will love bargs , just feed him pizza he should be fine shooting treys for yall

  • ZOGS

AHAHAHA THIS IS A F*CKING JOKE!!!!

  • aндрій базилевич

started from the bottom now we here.

  • LLC#12

If you’re going to put Bargnani alongside anyone, Chandler makes a lot of sense. All defense little offense next to all offense little defense. This raises the question of, what are the Knicks going to do with the other all offense little defense big on their roster? Where is STAT headed?

  • MUBWAR

thank the good lord. masai did in a few months what BC couldn’t pull off in a year & a half. so long bargnani. thanks 4 the 5 rebounds per game career average and all the 42% shooting seasons as a raptor.

  • MUBWAR

oops i meant 4.8 rebounds per game in 7 seasons. woow for a 7 footer

  • OfftheWall87

Pretty cool that Camby can start and finish his career as a Raptor. Knicks just got another guy who will stand and watch Melo dribble and shoot. Don’t understand this deal for them. Years ago dude he was supposed to be the centerpiece of the Raptors franchise. Now this. Things change quickly.

  • MUBWAR

not really anthony is a career 45% shooter. bargnani is 43% with JR coming off the bench with his 42% accuracy. that looks like a second round exit at best. The east being so top heavy in Miami Indiana Chicago & Brooklyn. good luck with that ny and thanks again 4 takin bargnani

  • LLC#12

Wait, what? I didn’t say anything about the Knicks playoff chances?

  • K

Knicks are not going anywhere but a 1st round exit!!!

  • Mike Gilbert

    prediction: Raptors win 75 games

  • Hart26

Another dumb move by the franchise. What was Grunwald thinking exactly? A first rounder? COME ON!

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    I <3 The Knicks

  • MikeC.

Start the countdown to when we can legally change Bargnani’s name to “Andrea Bargnani’s expiring contract”. One year of watching him pretend to be a basketball player, and one year of trade speculation.

  • Dagger

As a Raptors fan, this is my favorite trade, ever.

To receive a first round draft pick (!!) and two second round draft picks for Bargnani: that might be the biggest NBA steal in years. I understand that the Knicks want to space the floor for Anthony and maybe Amare to work in the paint, and Bargnani has a reputation as a stretch four. Which is funny, because he shot 31% from the 3 last season and 29% in the previous season. Good luck stretching the floor with that guy!

Obviously not enough people realize how atrocious Bargnani has become. Leave aside the stunningly bad help defense (probably worst in the league), abysmal rebounding percentage (all-time worst for a center?) and obviously flaky commitment to basketball. This guy shoots 43.7% from the field for his career! He’s averaged more turnovers than assists! Oh, and he’s played more than 66 games in a season only once. Did I mention that his winshares are basically as close to zero as you can get, and that some advanced stats actually show that he costs his team wins when he plays? Which is born out by reality, because the Raptors played like a decent team when he’s sat in recent years, but were abysmal when he played.

This is a guy who’s making $10 million/year. He was selected first in a week draft, but the selection was still so appalling that it probably did more than anything else to get the responsible GM fired. Bargnani is a player you should have to package with draft picks and young talent to trade, and then you should expect the bloated contract of Amare or Boozer in return. To get draft picks? What were the Knicks thinking?

  • RKJ92

LOLOLOL OMFGGG I’M DIEING…. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS SHIIIIII BAHA, IDDDIIIIIOTTTTSSSS!! ZOGS WE EVEN GOT 3 FUTURE DRAFT PICKS, AND WE WOULDA TRADED PRIMO PASTA FOR SOME MCDONALDS ON THE BLOCK AHAHA

  • RKJ92

    In 2 years combined… lmaooo

  • Bash

Bargnani is another offensive minded big who doesn’t rebound much and isn’t the strongest on D. Aren’t we already paying a premium price for someone like this on the roster now? Dumb decision leading to yet another dumb acquisition!

  • jason natal

These Gm’s are jokes. JR Smith is prob gone now novak. this is nonsense.

  • Dagger

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if Ujiri traded Landry Fields for Lebron.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

The responsible GM was Bryan Colangelo

  • danpowers

    oh my…

  • Teddy-the-Bear

As a Raptors fan: F*CK YES.
    As a Knicks fan: SMH.

  • RKJ92

Nobody deserves to have Bargnani put beside any player.. just wait man.. if your from New York or have League pass I dare you to watch a full game where Bargnani plays 40min or more your eyes will legitimately start to melt, while your brain develops a tumor..

  • https://twitter.com/jasontichenor Mr. Wet

    wow.

  • RKJ92

Bro Landry Fields, and 3 2nd round picks (our 2014 2nd round, and New Yorks 2 2nd rounders) for Eric Bledsoe.. that would be dope.. obviously there would be more pieces involved to make the contracts match but that would be a dream come true, and not SUCHH a bad trade, besides they need someone to fill that sf spot anyways lol

  • VanCityBBall

    Masai for president.

  • RKJ92

    Me too <3

  • RKJ92

    God :) <3

  • Dagger

    Believe me, I know.

  • RKJ92

    HERE HERE!!! :D

  • RKJ92

Everybody in our city knows lol! we weren’t even supposed to get Masai.. like the thought is actually so crazy still, and even thinking about it atm, him coming here to replace Colangelo was sooooo out of the blue.. this is heaven sent <3

  • danpowers

    exactly

  • RKJ92

TOTALLY UNRELATED BUT JUST PASSING IT ON…

    .

THE PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS HAVE ACQUIRED THOMAS ROBINSON IN A TRADE WITH THE HOUSTON ROCKETS.

The Rockets have been trying to deal Robinson to clear cap space.

The Blazers will send two future second round picks and the draft rights to
Kostas Papanikolau and Marko Todorovic for Robinson.

The deal will be consummated on July 10, but agreed in principle now in order
to give the Rockets sufficient cap space to offer Dwight Howard a max
    contract.

    NP GUYS.

  • RKJ92

Dude I am so so sorry <3 today is gonna be a rough one for you.. I suggest you roll a joint get as muchhh junky food as possible and call it a night :-/

  • danpowers

lol yeah, its just that a joint aint hard enough to deal with news like that. i need a bourbon whiskey now n call it a night.

  • RKJ92

LOL cheers then ill share a drink with you!! (to celebrate >:-D)

  • cflip

The Knicks got lucky for now, their fools if they continue this.

  • Drig

The deal isn’t done yet. Both teams must restructure the deal as per the new salaries for the NBA to approve the deal.

What the hell are the Knicks thinking?!?! They’re even more pathetic than the yesteryear Clippers………..

The Knicks needed D and perimeter shooting to progress. They got Bargnani who does neither. WTF??????

  • Noompsi

    TOTALLY

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Thanks brah! Been waiting on Houston news.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    because sh!tty decision.

  • RKJ92

Ya man I figured it would be nice to share so everybody here could get more of a fill :)

  • SomeRaptorsFan

    shh…wait until it’s final.

  • Dagger

It was a lot more final a couple hours ago! Should still get done, but of course with the Raptors’ luck you can never be sure until the ink is dry.

  • bubblecat

They got rid of their best perimeter shooter lol.

Hey Moderators! Can you wake up and ban these A-holes? Now they’re copy/pasting from real posters. Eff this ish!

  • TSmoove

All I can do is hope the this is the start of something bigger. Maybe they’ll get him an immediately flip him somewhere else who knows…

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

    Masai the Messiah!

  • VanCityBBall

i swear to god if you jinxed this…

  • underdog

Well he is overpaid for sure, but I think he would be a pretty good
bench player for the Knicks. I believe it’s going to be a big relief for
Andrea, that he doesn’t have to try to play the franchise player role
anymore. He is clearly not the player the Raptors thought he was going
to be, but he can still ball.

  • ToldUso

    what career exactly?

biggest bust from that 1996 super class IMO.

And he was my favourite player from that class in college

  • danpowers

i know that this could possibly go well for the knicks, if bargniani somehow returns to his old self from 3 or 4 years ago. but the probability that the move
will go awfully wrong is a little bit higher.

this is how many knicks fans felt when the trade got public http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=FwXD0hCvtX4

  • spit hot fiyah

not a bad deal for both teams. portland takes a shot at robinson who was a top five pick only a year a ago. and houston basically gets 4 players for him. and don’t sleep on papanikolau, if he decides to come over he turn into a very good player

  • spit hot fiyah

lorenzen wright, samaki walker, erick dampier and todd fuller all went in the top 12. camby had a very solid career

  • i_ball

I think it can work out. Andrea has never played off a superstar and he should be a good 3rd option on offense. But offense is not the problem with him. I bet Tyson Chandler doesn’t really like the trade.

  • RunNGun

Some time last year, RunNGun predicted this trade would happen. Bargs to the Knicks… Walsh made it happen!

  • Dfrance

Is it really 4.8? Good grief. As a 7 footer, you should get 5 rpg just standing around.

  • Dfrance

I loved him at Umass too, but I wouldn’t call him a bust. He didn’t live up to being the 2nd pick in the draft, but I think he can be proud of his time in the league.

  • K_HOLIDAY

LOL! Guess I should expect this from the Knicks!

  • danpowers

i just checked back online to see if this wasnt just a bad dream. obviously it wasnt. from now on i never ever want to see a raptors fan talk sh*t about the knicks – you guys owe us big time ;)

    cheers, i need another one

  • Max

    A beastly defensive career.

  • Dagger

The funniest/saddest/most accurate Bargnani descriptions I read this morning:

Toronto Star: “At this point in his career, Bargnani is a brittle, emotional leech who refuses to even pretend to play defence. For reasons known only to himself, he’s given up.”

SI: “The former No. 1 pick bottomed out last year, both on the court and in the court of public opinion . . . . If you wanted to construct the least likable NBA player, he would surely be an overpaid, unmotivated, injury-riddled, poor-rebounding, poor-defending, perimeter-oriented seven-footer who is supposed to be a shooting specialist but can’t hit the broadside of a barn and, inexplicably, has the full backing of management.”

  • Dagger

    To be fair:

The Knicks just aren’t a team that rebuilds through the draft. Those picks are valuable assets, but losing them won’t make or break your team. And although losing Novak hurts, at least you’re getting a young big man who still has some upside.

Ah screw it, there’s no way to justify this. I feel your pain.

  • OfftheWall87

    Kerry Kittles.

  • LP @ThisisEther

I don’t think busts stay in the league as long as camby…not a bust.

  • Guest

what are the knicks thinking!?! 2 first rounders??? there must be a typo

  • Happy.

SMFH. Sometimes it sucks being a Knick fan.

  • RKJ92

I think it was a great deal for Portland if LA decides to pack up and go for a better chance to contend on another team, if not Portland just got a little deeper :)

  • RKJ92

Ya the trade finalized today.. T.T

  • RKJ92

LMAO thats hilarious!! and damnit I read the Sun :( they weren’t mean at all they just called it “a new beginning” and Masai having “a vision” bringing us back to the promised land and such.. ill pick up the star on the Subway today

  • danpowers

yeah, i also get the thought behind the deal and its not like we just drafted greg oden over kevin durant.
but the risk that this goes awfully wrong and costs the knicks a whole season is higher than the chance that this one plays out well.

its not only about giving up camby + novak + picks. its that typical knicks front office mentality of running high risks. all or nothing, now or never by spending big time. thats just the opposite of sustainable acting. to me that mirrors that typical wall street mentality which more often than not goes wrong.
at least the cap will be cleared in two years which makes me hope that the 2000s era wont repeat.
i will eat my words if they really win a chip this year but so far it looks extremely unlikely that the team will improve during the summer and even more unlikely that they will stay healthy enough during the playoffs.

  • danpowers

now i need a whole bottle lol

  • TR

When was the last time the Raptors were on national TV? its had to of been over 3 yeras haha

  • Lloyd

As a Raps fan and as a fan of solid comments, your work on this thread has been admirable to say the least. Well done sir.

  • LakeShow

Either I haven’t watched him enough or i’m not as much of a hater as ya’ll. He is a good PF. Assuming last year was a down year, am I wrong?

He’s just been in the wrong place wrong time in Toronto.

Next to Tyson he could be very nice.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

he is the worst defensive 7 footer in NBA history. He is literally the worst rebounding big the league has ever seen…..and too boot, his jump shot has never really been reliable. Despite his reputation.

  • LakeShow

I don’t go for all those hyperbolic phrases.
He could serve a nice role on a this Knick’s playoff team.

The Knick’s aren’t going anywhere anyway with the Bulls, Pacers, Heat and Nets surrounding them in the East.
Bargs neither hurts them nor helps them IMO.
That’s if his shot isn’t completely broke. If it is… This is a dumb move cause Novak can actually hit shots at a high rate while playing no defense.
Looking at his last two years… sh*t I dunno what happened to his shot.

  • Dagger
  • Dagger

Thanks, maybe the joy of Bargnani’s departure brought out the best in me. No more primo pasta commercials!

  • KBM

All of the hate he recieves is justified. He truly is painful to watch.

  • LakeShow

haha, I don’t know about that man.
His hate is based upon Toronto’s playoff expectations and his contract’s price tag.
He could be a really good 3rd option. He’s just never been given the chance.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    lol that’s fair.

  • Mars

I don’t know what the Knicks are doing. I’m still trying to figure out why Camby was seldomly used. Before he got hurt, he was still one of the league’s leading rebounders. One of the Knicks biggest weaknesses is their lack of rebounding. Chandler needs help. I hope the Knicks know what they’re doing!!!!!

  • RKJ92

Who cares? I don’t; you shouldn’t either. If you don’t like them don’t follow them. Your choice.
