LaMarcus Aldridge Reportedly Wants Out of Portland

by Marcel Mutoni @ marcel_mutoni

According to various reports, though he denies them, All-Star power forward LaMarcus Aldridge is looking for a change of scenery.

Unlikely as it may be, word is that Aldridge would like the rebuilding Trail Blazers to trade him; he’s grown too big for Portland (in his own mind.)

Per the Oregonian:

See, Aldridge wants to end his seven-year run with the Blazers because he thinks Portland is too small. Too boring. But general manager Neil Olshey is not in the business to make players happy. He is in the business of making the Blazers better. And if there has been one consistent with Aldridge throughout his seven years in Portland, it’s that he puts up somewhere around 21 points and 8 rebounds a game whether he is happy, unhappy or indifferent to what direction the Blazers are headed.

Still, it is an interesting proposition for Olshey as he embarks on his second summer of reshaping the franchise. Aldridge has two years remaining on his contract in Portland. He has no leverage to demand a trade right now. But he will after this season, when he can enter his final season in Portland with a threat to walk into free agency, leaving the Blazers with nothing in return, except for some salary cap relief.

According to the Daily Herald in Chicago, LaMarcus Aldridge has expressed a desire to play for the Bulls.

Aldridge chose not to renew any of his local sponsorship deals, and is looking to break the lease on his condo. The big man says fans and media should not read too much into any of this, and tried to brush off the appearance that he is looking for a way out of Portland:

“I’m fine. Like I said, it was a tough season, but I’m not trying to jump ship. We will sit down and we will talk about who we are going to bring in, and what things will happen and we will go from there.”

You should headline more articles with ‘reportedly’ – it doesn’t make you seem like a gossip site at all.

Chicago gets: Lamarcus Aldridge, Trevor Ariza
Portland gets: Carlos Boozer, Kevin Seraphin, Washington’s 2013 1st round, protected Bobcat’s future 1st round via Chicago, rights to Nikola Mirotic, Chicago’s 2013 1st round, Washington gets: Luol Deng, Rip Hamilton, Portland’s 2013 first round

My thinking for this trade is that the Bulls want LA (obviously). The Wizards move down in the lottery, but still get Deng, giving them a great opportunity to make the playoffs this year. This trade will only happen if the Blazers want to go into full reuild mode, which isn’t a bad idea. The draft is supposed to be amazing next year, and by the time Portland builds enough of a team to contend, LA could be declining. It makes sense to trade him now.

I didn’t check to see if salaries work, but off the top of my head I think they do.

  • RunNGun

At least you’re honest about the salaries! LOL Don’t know if the trade machine is current: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine

  • Mike Gilbert

It works if you take out Rip Hamilton

I find it funny when a player denies that he wants out. Okay, stay there then.

  • cflip

Sucks how unlucky the Blazers have been, felt like they should of been contenders by now if not for the injuries. Hopefully nothing bad happens to Lillard.

  • spit hot fiyah

it took him 7 years to realize that portland was boring?

“According to various reports, though he denies them,”

You can pretty much stop reading right there.

  • Fat Lever

This may just be a game of chess. LMA says he wants out, Portland sits down with him, he says they need to bring in better players to support him and/or DL, and they oblige. Next thing you know, Portland is one of the 4 best squads in the west. Winning cures all, this may have been a calculated move by LMA. Or I could just be wrong. Way wrong.

  • Slick Ric

He would be perfect for the Bulls.

  • Mike Gilbert

not for hipsters! Have you seen Portlandia?

  • derby

Dame Lilliard is the reason behind this .

  • OfftheWall87

    …Little Damian Lillard envy?

  • BIG ED

I think a change of scenery is needed for LA. Portland is rebuilding and he would be a good piece on contender.

  • Jerome

A healthy Oden and Roy would’ve made this team top 4 in the West. Stay put LA … don’t be like the Heatles. It will be much more worth it if you stay and win.

  • OfftheWall87

You mean have 2 championships? Yeah, don’t be like those guys. If LA should stay, it’s not so that he can avoid being like the Heat…it would be because he has a good, potentially great PG playing with him and they are only a few pieces away from being a good team.

I think this guy would be perfect for the Spurs. They could have a new Twin Towers duo, with Duncan playing the role of David Robinson.

OR he could go to Houston and join Dwight Howard. Make it happen Morey!

It’s been said a billion times but I’ll say it again. The Bulls rrrrrreally should’ve kept Aldridge when they drafted him…

Ya know, I don’t think this demanding a trade sh*t two years after signing a contract should ever fly. But neither should putting up with a team that’s starts a season with Sasha Pavlovic as its 6th man and tells its players they are trying to compete.
    .
Oh, and I bet LA isn’t a big fan of being stuck 15-18 feet from the hoop on offense all game every game. When you are a top 5 post player and lead the league in mid range jump shots, there is something wrong with your offense.

we would have never gotten d rose then

hell, Lebron probably doesnt go to the Heat either then cause the Heat would have most likely gotten the number 1 pick in 08

  • OfftheWall87

All of these guys are trying to copy CP3 and Melo…who only wanted to go elsewhere after LeBron, Wade and Bosh got together. But they were free agents. Now star players are saying they want to leave every season, but aren’t close to becoming free agents.

  • vINSANITY

How do you only realize that after 7 years

  • Jay Brodes

dwight for lamarcus..lets get it done!!

  • K

Bulls 1 All-star away from winning it al!!!!!

  • cut fastball

Would he be a good fit with the Rockets?

  • LakeShow

He’d be a good fit with virtually any team. He’s very solid with his mechanics. He can pass. Dribble. Defend. Shoot jumpers. Play in the post.

  • trout

    Aldrige for Bosh?

  • robb

    LA to LA Lakers!!!

  • KingBenjamin

Trade him to OKC for Ibaka and Perkins.

  • Dula

noah and deng were all stars this year.
    rose comes back next yr.
so…you’re saying they need 4 all stars?

  • roscoe

why would any team want perk?

  • Basketball Coach

lol. this pretty much burns the whole deal if that happens.

  • Jerome

The Heat are full of players that get away with breaking rules without being made to pay for their infractions. Flop-Criticizing Refs-Travelling-CarryingtheBall-etc. Yes, those guys, don’t be like those guys.

  • OfftheWall87

Name a team that doesn’t get away with flopping, criticizing refs, travelling, carrying the ball, etc. Just one. You know what that’s called? The NBA. It happens literally every game with every team because the referees aren’t perfect and don’t make every perfect call.
