Miami Heat Favored in Game 7 vs San Antonio Spurs

by Marcel Mutoni @ marcel_mutoni

This should surprise no one: the Miami Heat were the heavy favorites before a single shot was taken in the NBA Finals, and with Game 7 set for tonight in South Beach, little has changed.

The San Antonio Spurs will try to become just the fifth road team to win a Game 7 in NBA Finals history.

Both teams are appreciative of the moment, and anxiously awaiting the chance to seize it.

Per Yahoo! Sports and the AP:

“I understand the moment for me,” LeBron James said. “I’ve been pretty relaxed, though. I’ve been pretty relaxed throughout the playoffs. I’m going to be antsy, I’m going to be excited. I’m going to have some butterflies. I’ll be nervous – everything. That’s how I should be. The moment is going to be grand. I’m happy to be a part of it.”

“I want to go down as one of the greatest. I want our team to go down as one of the greatest teams. And we have an opportunity to do that,” James said. “Hasn’t been many teams to win back-to-back championships. It’s so hard. It’s the hardest thing. I said last year it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, winning my first. Last year don’t even come close to what we’ve gone through in this postseason and in these Finals.”

While the Heat are grateful for another chance after nearly blowing their title hopes in Game 6, the San Antonio Spurs are doing all they can to forget about their collapse. They said all the right things, but it remains to be seen if they can get over that mental hurdle once the ball goes up tonight.

Game 7s are the ultimate moments of truth in sports, and it’s fitting that this wild final series between the Heat and Spurs will come down to one final showdown.

In the Shock Exchange’s opinion, Game 6 was for the chip.

  • Stepfan Raiford

Hopefully Jesus will be a tad bit rusty after his game 6 heroics…and from his extra curricular activities. Go Spurs. Got two dinner bets on the line.

  • The Mauve Avenger

Man I forgot how raunchy that scene was, thanks! haha

  • The Mauve Avenger

Predictions anyone? 97-92 Spurs in regulation.

  • Dfrance

    115-102 Miami in regulation.

  • Stepfan Raiford

    95-88 Spurs

  • MUBWAR

sorry the Spurs are not winning tonight. 45 min for tim(37 years old) 43 min for Tony (turned 31) and 35 min for Ginobli who is 37 and they all played less then 48h after last game? come on fellas

  • Stepfan Raiford

I’m predicting with my heart lol

  • RayJr

    103-92 Miami

  • MUBWAR

    heat 105 85

  • playa

For some reason i would be SHOCKED if spurs won tonight.

  • pposse

20 years ago today the greatest SG of all time defeated the current leagues MVP, and now 20 years later the greatest PF of all time will defeat the leagues current MVP.

  • Dagger

Somewhat related: this article about T-mac is really worth reading.

  • Conor

Let us pray (to the Lord Naismith).

  • Lloyd

The Heat were always favoured. Never count the Spurs out though. That said, I see Miami winning by a blowout unless something drastic happens.

  • spit hot fiyah

i’m about to read that. abrams’ articles are massive

  • Mike Gilbert

I think everyone needs to realize that LeBron has 3 triple doubles in his last 7 Finals games. Only Magic has more than 2 all time in a finals game.

  • Mike Gilbert

    Ginobli is 35 just sayin

  • LakeShow

    Crawfords reffing isn’t he?
    Heat got this…
LeBron’s like 30-2 with Crawford in the playoffs.

I’ll still go with my heart and say the better basketball team will win.
    That’s the Spurs.

  • anon

Man, I forgot how AWESOME that scene was.

  • LakeShow

It’s not that impressive to me.
The Heat have NO rebounder’s so there’s the 10 boards.
The Heat have no point guard play so there’s the 10 assists.

But i’m just a hater, so yeah be impressed.

  • Mike Gilbert

He shouldn’t get the “LeBron had to team up with superstars because he couldn’t get it done in Cleveland.” crap anymore if this isn’t impressive, because this is so clearly his team.

  • http://www.netstakeover.com/ JetSkiJohnson

Bron Bron will crumble under pressure.

  • Dfrance

Up vote for you acknowledging the hate in your statement.

  • OfftheWall87

Pretty much all adrenaline tonight especially for the Spurs. Have no idea who will win. If anyone can recover from the other night, it’s the Spurs. I can see LeBron carrying the Heat to a win with Wade making big plays when needed on one leg. Big shots from either Miller or Ray. I can also see Tony Parker going wild and Duncan doing just enough. No one knows.

  • fruizm

I dont know why but all this time I thought you were black haha!

  • RKJ92

Lol idiot.. look closer at the picture..

  • fruizm

    Hahahahaha wow! Sorry!

  • LakeShow

I would co-sign, but he showed last year he can win a chip if his mind is right.
Tonight will show if Bron can win through adversity.

  • ThaWindy

    It’s the last game. They”ll be 2 pumped 2 get tired….

  • pposse

    co-sign out of hate!

  • Dfrance

    LMAO!

  • Dfrance

Apparently you thought I was Craig Sager too!

Guess I’m too black, didn’t even see me standing there. LMAO!

  • ChosenOne

I’m guessing you enjoyed the link I sent you of this movie a few months back haha… remember?

  • Dfrance

Pretty good read. Interesting points about his laid back demeanor and how its perceived as laziness. It’s hard to say a guy is not giving his all when he put up the numbers he did in those series’.

  • Dfrance

I’ve never seen a Grantland article that wasn’t massive.

  • fruizm

Hahaha OK I apparently I need glasses because I didnt even notice that was Craig Sager hahaha!!!

  • Stepfan Raiford

I do bruh. Got it saved to my favorites on Youtube. You was so clutch that day.

  • LakeShow

    LMAO!

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/savagemuzicgroup T-Ray

Still sticking with the Spurs even though it’s obvious the Heat should be favored. Most teams would probably never recover from that crushing Game 6 loss but if any team can do it it’s the Spurs. They are poised and battled tested and I would be shocked if they were just blitzkrieged by the Heat. Who knows though either way should be an exciting game.

  • tr

For some reason I think this could be a really boring game that Miami wins 87-82…I dont see how it gets any better than game 6

  • Max

It’s not like Crawford gave the Heat an advantage in game 6, I would lean more towards the other direction.

  • Max

    102-93 Spurs.
SLAM should give the one who has it right something!

  • pposse

    100-59 Spurs

  • Alysha Nicole

Manu got fouled on the last play.

  • shockexchange

All this time the Shock Exchange thought you were a natty dresser

  • bike

Miami wins by 1 in double OT.

    LeBron goes for 35/10/10.

Parker ties the game for both OTs.

Last play of the game, Spurs down by one, Manu does the gladiator drive in heavy traffic and tries a Hail Mary floater bank. It misses, game over, and the ball winds up halfway up his ass.

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/savagemuzicgroup T-Ray

Idk why I laughed at the last part lol

  • AQWORD

    stfu slam !

  • OfftheWall87

He’s already shown he can do that. All he could do tonight is show it again.

  • Max

Manu travelled before he got fouled on the last play.

  • LakeShow

Sorry, I meant show it’s not a fluke.

  • BRIVN22

Yeah. Game 6 was just so insane.

  • BRIVN22

I’m still going with the Spurs, but its gonna be hard to come back from that gut wrenching loss, even if you are as good as the Spurs.

  • Lindsay

    That’s for “mean girls”.

  • crashdicoot

No one knows like a Laker fan how important it is to have a friendly ref….no one.

  • OfftheWall87

Game 5 against the Pistons in 07 in Detroit. Last year’s Game 6 in Boston when they were facing elimination. Last year’s NBA Finals after losing Game 1. 3 times is already enough to show it’s not a fluke. Tonight would just add to that.

  • LakeShow

I’ll give you the first two.
But naw the Thunder represented no adversity.

  • ergodan

    heat 98 95

  • ergodan

Game 7 will be about role players. Bosh/birdman/miller vs neal/green.

  • OfftheWall87

So just act like that Finals series didn’t happen? A year after he had embarrassed himself in the Finals and the pressure was on him to perform and win his first championship? That’s adversity. Not the Thunder themselves but the situation he was in where it was either win or have people criticize him even more for losing 2 Finals series in a row.

  • The Philosopher

    As he bears the cross…

  • clydesays

I expect the Spurs to win it. And Jesus can console himself with some Lebron cast offs…

  • LakeShow

    See that burban? That’s Bron.
See that deer? That’s the Thunder.

  • OfftheWall87

Find a picture of the biggest truck known to man and put it in front of that vehicle…those were the expectations and pressure from folks who were waiting for them to lose again, specifically him, and were ready to say he can’t win the big one.

  • The Philosopher

It is as such, my brethren:
This moment is a special moment in NBA History. It is filled with everything a basketball fan could desire. Drama, hyperbole and everything that accompanies that.
Game 7 of the NBA Finals…

Legacies will be made, tonight. Positively, negatively and the like. A player’s legacy may not be affected by what happens under the lights of Game 7.
    We shall witness.

As The King faces the unprecedented scrutiny, as he has his entire career, the masses wonder how he will respond.

Can Tim Duncan once again, rise to the occasion and add on to a legacy that already has him in a legitimate conversation as not only a top big man in League History but, a top player in League History?
Can Dwyane Wade be Dwyane Wade?
Again, it is everything a fan of basketball can hope for. In my judgement.
    My guess?
Of course, I am biased. The King and his men are destined, in my opinion…
That being said, The King wins the title while turning in a 40 point triple double. And not only solidifies his legacy, but, REMAKES his legacy as truly, one of the greatest players the world has ever seen.

  • The Mauve Avenger

I gotta ask, what’s the shockexchange? Or are you talking in the third person?

  • shockexchange

The Shock Exchange thinks you’re a regular Nostradamus.

  • Obz

    HEAT REPEAT !!! PERIOD .

  • 1luv

    almost correct.

  • Shooting Guard

    yea that was very close

  • Stepfan Raiford

I wish this was horseshoes and not basketball. lol Congrats to the Heat fans. What a great game and great series.

  • OfftheWall87

How did that prediction work out?

  • Dfrance

He’s speaking in 3rd person and there’s also this http://www.newyorkshockexchange.com/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,1/
