Nate Robinson Reportedly Won’t Return to the Chicago Bulls

Free agent guard Nate Robinson is likely on his way out of the Windy City, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The finances don’t work for the Chicago Bulls to retain the diminutive and explosive Robinson: “While the general manager indicated on Thursday night that the organization would like to bring back the likes of free agents-to-be Marco Belinelli, Nate Robinson and Nazr Mohammed there’s a good chance that only Mohammed is returning. According to a source familiar with the situation, Robinson and his camp have already made it clear with the Bulls that the two sides will part ways, as Robinson seeks a multi-year contract. Even if that contract isn’t made available to the point guard, a one-year deal with a team that will give him extended playing time is next on his wish list. Two requests that the Bulls cannot grant. Technically, the Bulls can’t start talking with agents until July 1, but it was made clear to Robinson on the day after the playoffs ended for him and his teammates, that with Derrick Rose expected to be up-and-running, as well as having Kirk Hinrich and Marquis Teague as backups, Robinson could see time at either guard position, but would be more of an insurance policy than leaned on for heavy minutes like he was this past season with Rose sidelined. Robinson knows that his value might never be higher coming off a season like he had, and silencing critics that he wasn’t the most coachable player in the league. You put a year in under coach Tom Thibodeau, and stay mostly dog-house free, that’s an accomplishment.”

After what Nate did for them last year, keeping Marquis Teague over him is a mistake. I hope he finds another spot on a roster somewhere!

Marquis teague is on that rookie scale. Robinson will bring in a decent amount more than him

  • Enigmatic

Bulls fans have known this for a while now. Most would love to have Nate come back, but he just played too well.

keeping teague? wasn’t he a first round pick, or am i mistaken? his contract is guaranteed, u can’t just cut him.

  • Ugh

No matter how well Nate plays nobody wants to give him the money he routinely proves he deserves. What’s with that?

  • Dfrance

Dude just can’t catch a break. He silenced his critics years ago when he sat quietly as D’Antoni benched him for a billion games for no good reason, then came in and calmly dropped 40 the next night.

  • TBRK

poppa was a rollin stone, wherever he laid his hat was his home

  • Roy Blumenfeld

He was. But you can easily trade/salary dump him. All I am saying is last year the Bulls had no Rose and went through stretches without Hindrich. It is not unrealistic to think both of them won’t get hurt again. If they do, would you rather have Nate or Teague getting minutes?

  • rand

He’ll sign with the World Champion Miami Heat.

  • LP @ThisisEther

The Bulls Cant just cut and sign players as they please…. Nate wants money, Bulls can’t pay him. TEAGUE is on a guaranteed rookie Contract, so he pretty much has to stay… Trading him wouldn’t free up cap room to sign nate anyway.

  • Roy Blumenfeld

You could trade him for a draft pick or cash considerations. The Bulls are now left with 2 injury prone point guards and Marquis Teague. While that’s still good, I will maintain that Nate is better. The Bulls are contenders and a profitable franchise. They could pay Nate if they wanted to.

  • Mike Gilbert

Derrick Rose is injury prone after one season…REALLY….

  • Mike Gilbert

I mean with Rose back and Hinrich still here he would barely get any playing time anyway. I’m sad to see him go, but it’s clearly the right move

  • grgeblck

He can play, but can he lead? That’s a gamble if any teams decide to take him as the starter.

  • Roy Blumenfeld

Now that he’s been hurt, he’s never going to be 100% ever again. He took his time recovering and might very well play 80+ games this year. Or he might not. Chicago’s training staff will do their best.

  • Royce

no disrespect, but this was the first time in Nate’s career that he actually played somewhat like a pg. His shoot first mentality was pretty much a jolt for the anemic offense Chicago had; can’t see that being the norm though.

  • Redd

Thanks, when did u become his doctor?

  • han jon

dude Hinrich never plays! nate keppt starting and kicking ass

  • spit hot fiyah

i’d rather have nate any day. unloading teague probably wont be enough to re-sign nate though

  • offyourself

The same day you took his sack out of your mouth…Oh wait, that hasn’t happened yet.

  • Roy Blumenfeld

Right. They’d still have to pay more. But it’d be worth it.

  • Redd

And you put Roy’s sack in yours I assume.

    Quite cute dumb f***.

  • Lloyd

Not only that Belinelli was a good boost too and had some great moments. The fact that out of the potential 3 FAs, Nazr Mohammed may be the only one returning should be very disappointing. The Bulls are losing so far this off season.

  • Clos1881

Atlanta hawks game Nate was on fire that night.

  • Clos1881

Memphis could use a guy like him their offense is anemic.

  • Shanty Gharami

Chicago Bulls should keep Nate Robinson he’s the heart of the Bulls Nate stay in Chicago they need you.

    more news……
