New Kings Owner Wants to Make DeMarcus Cousins a Star in India

The Sacramento Kings formally introduced their new coach, Mike Malone. He has two big tasks ahead of him — get the Kings to play some defense, and figure out how to work with DeMarcus Cousins. Team owner Vivek Ranadive has a much larger vision for the young big man. Per the Sac Bee: “‘At the end of the day, these players are all going to have a choice to make,’ Malone said during his introductory news conference Monday. ‘You’re either going to embrace the change or you’re going to resist.’ As he approaches his fourth season, Cousins remains the great divide, which makes him Malone’s No. 1 challenge. There are those who believe Cousins will benefit from the ownership and organizational changes and mature into one of the game’s most dominant big men. But there are those who stare at his 6-foot-11, 270-pound frame, are scared off by his frequent outbursts and expressive demeanor, and wouldn’t let him near their foxhole. Here, though, they’re all in. Malone wants Cousins as his cornerstone. Ranadive wants Cousins on the floor and in his foxhole, and he wants Cousins to become a familiar figure in his native India. ‘I’d like nothing better than a billion Indians to know who DeMarcus Cousins is,’ Ranadive said. Added Malone: ‘I will go to him with open arms, because we all know, on any given night, he’s the most talented big man in the NBA. You just don’t get rid of those guys.’”

It would be a hit but he will have a helluva time getting DeMarcus to ride an elephant.

I’m not sure you would want Demarcus Cousins to serve as an ambassador for your organization in a foreign country with a billion people.

  • Dagger

No kidding. I just returned from there and it was eye-opening and humbling, to say the least.

“On any given night, he’s the most talented big man in the NBA” Andre Blatche is rolling over in his grave right now.

Its funny how people dog Cousins cuz he has an attitude on the court. Don’t you want someone who is passionate about the game? And does he ever get in trouble off the court? No. Cousins does a lot of charity work and is nothing but a big kid himself. We love him here in KY bc we know the real Demarcus. And he is without a doubt one of the best bigs in the league.

Demarcus Cousins, a billion people. A billion people, Demarcus Cousins.
Forrest Gump may’ve met his match.

  • LoveCuz

By all accounts, he is only a “punk” on the court. He has a history of being very generous regarding charity work and giving back to the community, both in college and in the NBA.

Hahaha… You’re out of your damn mind if you think blatche is better than cousins

  • The Mauve Avenger

Didn’t know that. Thanks for the correction.

  • Ugh

You should get a job as a GM. There’s some really valuable insights into team building there.

Good idea. They should think about getting Narduar to cover the Lakers games as he and Nash are both from Canada, and they should think about getting Germaine Greer to cover Warriors games ’cause her and Bogut are Australian. While we’re at it, why not get Orman Pahmuk to cover Magic games as both he and Hedo are Turkish?
