Ray Allen Feels Vindication for Signing With the Miami Heat

The controversial move to South Beach has paid off handsomely for Ray Allen, who says he feels vindicated for jumping ship from the Boston Celtics to their most hated rivals. Allen also discussed the dicey situation former Celtics teammate Paul Pierce finds himself in now. Per the Boston Globe: “I knew when I assessed the situation at the time every player going into free agency wants to win and as you get older, you try to see everything,’ Allen said Wednesday. ‘You try to look at the situation a little bit closer. You step out on the limb every summer and a guy says, ‘am I going to go to this team or that team?’ For me, I guess there is a little bit of vindication because being here is where my whole hope was of doing last summer.’ When asked whether he had any empathy for former teammate Paul Pierce, who could be traded or perhaps waived this summer after 15 seasons with the Celtics, Allen said: ‘Going back to my situation, last summer I had control. I had the ultimate choice to decide where my future was going to be and I didn’t have to worry about what a team was going to decide to do with me. What team out there possibly was going to give me the option to be able to play and also at the same time, being able to win. I guess he is at the mercy of what the team wants to do.’ Allen signed a two-year deal with the Heat with a player option after this season for $3 million. He said he has not decided whether to exercise that option or become a free agent again.”

i love to see a guy stick with a team for an entire career, but i think there is no way the celts keep pierce. too much money to save and rebuilding is a must at this point

I expect Ray to exercise his option after the season ends. His best chance to win another title is sticking with the Heat. Sucks that he left the Cs for a rival, but if he’s after a ring then he’s making the right choice.

Making it to the Finals doesn’t change the fact that people think you’re a backstabber Ray.

I’m a Celtics fan and I was pretty pissed when Ray left but I understand. I wouldn’t call him a backstabber. Look at P Double’s situation. Ray is a business man just like it will be business if they trade Paul.

But the heat? We lose a 7 game war to them and a month later he switches teams? I guess if u can’t beat em join em right?

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Agreed. Hated to see Ray leave the C’s, but P-Double’s “loyalty” may be rewarded by a 1 year stint in Phoenix, Sacramento, or whoever the highest bidder may be. At the end of the day, Ray Ray simply exercised his right to choose his employer, while Pierce’s destiny rests in Danny Ainge’s hands (who’s first option is to dump 15.3 million in salary).

Well he’s a major contributor on a team about to go into the Finals. I guess the ends justify the means.

@dFRANCE I love this pic putting it on my phone right now!
I Hate Boston Celtics, Red Sox. So I really don’t care if they send his butt to the D-league. Lets face it i’m a LA Laker fan and there era is over and so is the celtics. case close!!!!!!!!

My mind set is if you’re going to leave your squad you might as well leave to go play where you really have a chance to win. It obviously wasn’t about the money because he took less to go to Miami.

Vindicated or feels like he made the right career move? There is a difference you know Slam.

Why does everyone think Ray Allen’s some loyal Celtic diehard that owes them his career? He’s been on like 4, or so, teams.

  • Basketball Coach

true, as he said, he is getting older and he’s not like Kobe who’s backed up by one of the most expensive team in the league. he did made a smart move moving to the heat.
