Andre Iguodala to Sign With Golden State Warriors for $48 Million

Free agent forward Andre Iguodala is leaving Denver for the Bay Area — Yahoo! Sports reports that Iggy and the Warriors reached an agreement on a four-year, $48 million deal. This was made possible due to Richard Jefferson, Brandon Rush and Andris Biedrins heading to the Utah Jazz. Per the Contra Costa Times: “Golden State GM Bob Myers and Iguodala’s agent, Rob Pelinka, who worked together as agents, executed complex maze to get a deal done … Golden State drops out of the Dwight Howard chase, clearing the way for long-standing frontrunner Houston to close with the free agent star. [...] The Warriors cleared the cap space by trading the expiring contracts of Andris Biedrins, Richard Jefferson and Brandon Rush to Utah. The deal may include multiple picks as well. The deal lands the Warriors an upgrade on the perimeter. According to multiple sources, Iguodala — who Golden State has wanted for a while — wants to play for the Warriors. He’s a big fan of coach Mark Jackson and Stephen Curry, and his game fits the Warriors style of play. Part of the reason, per one source, Iguodala did not sign Sacramento’s four-year, $52 million offer was because he wanted to see if there were a chance he could play for the Warriors.”

Huge pickup. Sucks for Barnes moving to the bench, but he’ll be a great 6th man.

  • theDankerNuggets

    damn you Golden State!

  • davidR

    !!!

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

I don’t think they’re necessarily out of the Dwight trade talks…

  • theDankerNuggets

as much as i like your roster, jerseys, and city you’ve taken so much from us

  • OfftheWall87

    Neither do I.

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

Yea, Barnes is either moving to the bench or will be included is some sign and trade for Dwight.

  • JML-G

if Curry wasnt so injury prone, it would make more sense for Dwight to go to SF than HTown after they got Iggy

  • Warriors Fan

neither do i i think they can still get him, with iggy (barnes or klay if they do a trade for dwight) with curry and lee, thats a pretty dangerous team and there bench.

  • OfftheWall87

Wouldn’t say he’s injury prone really. Not yet. The only season he’s missed a ton of games was in 2011-2012. He only missed 4 games this past season, missed 2 in his first season and missed 8 his second season.

  • Warriors Fan

yeah i think either barnes or klay will be thrown in for a sign and trade for dwight, then our starting line up will be curry lee iggy barnes or clay and hopefully dwight + our bench (hopefully we can sign jack or landry to vet min) to shore up our bench then we will be really dangerous and hopefully challenge the top teams in the WCF (spurs grizzlys and the thundder)

  • OfftheWall87

If they can just keep Klay, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

FWIW, I hear Jarret Jack’s last tweet was something like “Was fun while it lasted.” Doesn’t sound like he’ll be there. And I think Landry was looking into signing with the Clippers.. not sure though.

This is huge. But, I want to know more about this Utah trade. What else was involved in order to take on those contracts.

  • KingBenjamin

So, the Warriors shed $24.5M in salary with Biedrins $9M, Jefferson $11.5M and Rush $4M. Iguodala makes $48M over 4 years, probably $11M 1st year, $12M next, etc. That gives them $13.5M leftover, allowing them to trade Bogut and his $14M to the Lakers for a sign and trade of Howard at $22M, with $5.5M leftover to add to Landry and Jack’s salaries of last year. They could both resign with the team for $2.75M more than what they made last year.

If this is actually what goes down, the Warriors are the best team in the league next year.

  • robb

The Warriors are making everything right it seems. I’m glad for them.

  • Junkie

“Golden State clearing cap space for Dwight Howard” PSYCH

  • Junkie

Honestly do you think they win the west with this deal tho?

  • Trillfamyoungin

Cant wait for 2k on Xbox 1 lmao….they should keep this team bring Barnes off the bench and they got archie goodwin who plays like Eric Bledsoe get a big man like marreese speights

  • OfftheWall87

Can’t predict it. Best thing they can do is give themselves the best chance. This is a big move in the right direction even if they don’t get Dwight. Curry, Thompson, Iguodala, Lee, Bogut (if he can stay healthy)…Barnes off the bench.

  • spit hot fiyah

for now. i’m calling it right now. david lee will be moved as soon as they find anyone who will take him. i think really embraced small ball when he went out with the hip injury. playing barnes at the 4 is something i think we will see a lot of this upcoming season

  • spit hot fiyah

surprisingly little talk about jarret jack this off season, dude had a career year. only thing i heard so far is denver.

  • OfftheWall87

Depends on if they can get a serviceable 4 man back somehow. When small ball doesn’t work and they’re getting beaten up inside, they’ll need someone to bring in and play a traditional style of ball.

  • OfftheWall87

They’ll be fine as long as they keep Klay.

  • Saleem Rainman

I guess he liked what he saw when he was ousted by them in the first round lol

  • spit hot fiyah

agreed. they will for one on the cheap though if they can get rid of Lee. speights, hickson, dujuan blair come to mind

  • Saleem Rainman

GSW and LAL sign and trade in the works. I can smell it.

  • OfftheWall87

Just heard Dallas is out for Dwight. So it’s either Houston or Golden State. Got a weird feeling Golden State is going to get him.

  • http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjIeIA3G2s5UPQfRPYFyFDw Hart26

This makes it so much more likely for a Dwight S&T. Barnes is tradable now, great trade for GS.

  • Dagger

I know what you mean. My head says Houston but my gut says Golden State, although it seems really improbable right now.

  • GSW Fan

I don’t want dwight! I love barnes off the bench with Steph Klay Iggy Bogut and Lee. Even if Dwight goes to Houston they are equal and a great rivalry will continue to bud

  • OfftheWall87

I don’t know what to expect. Just feel like he will think about Curry and Thompson…think about the 3 point shooters around him when he got to the Finals and compare them to how Curry and Thompson can shoot the ball. With Iguodala there now too? One of the best perimeter defenders and the best interior defender in the league on one team. Hard to pass up.

  • Official

    Dwight to Houston

  • Blarmac

    There goes that Cap space…

  • duhh

    Suns got archie

  • Dagger

Well, looks like the head was right. Crazy stuff.

  • RKJ92

If my source is correct I have the Lakers trading Ron Artest, and Dwight Howard for Andrew Bogut, Klay Thompson, and 1rst round draft pick.

  • OfftheWall87

Too late. Houston is the choice.

  • OfftheWall87

Had to be there or Golden State. I think it’s a good choice. He has to buckle down and win though. No more excuses for him.

  • RKJ92

Where did you find out if you dont mind me asking? I want to see why the trade didn’t go through…

  • RKJ92

Like I see it’s saying he chose houston but now there are reports that nothing is finalized yet and Lakers are still talking with GS

  • OfftheWall87

SLAM just posted the story about it. Heard about it on Twitter.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

The idea that Harrison Barnes is going to lose minutes because of this is hilarious. He is the backup to 3 starters now. He will get more minutes

  • Dagger

Ultimately there was little doubt that Houston was the best choice by far. Howard did the right thing, but abandoning LA will dog him for the rest of his career. Has something like this ever happened to the Lakers?

  • Trillfamyoungin

damn i forgot but they got scott machado who is soild

Never believe any story that has the Lakers helping a team in their division become a juggernaut. There was never any chance of Dwight going to Golden State. Despite all the empty speculation.

  • Sardo Numspa

    Dude… they’re not trading Clay.

  • LP @ThisisEther

    will he? more minutes????

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

The team had to renounce Jarrett Jack and Carl Landry in order to sign Iguodala. That leaves SG, SF, PF with Harrison as its 1st back up. Well technically Iguodala would be the back up SG. But Barnes would sub for any 3 positions.
