Brandon Jennings Reportedly Seeks Deal in $48-50 Million Range

Point guard Brandon Jennings remains one of the biggest question marks this summer, having so fan been unable to secure a new contract. He’s reportedly looking for a deal in the $11-12 million/year range, but the Milwaukee Bucks are clearly not on the same page. Per HoopsWorld: “The big unknown for the Bucks is the future of their point guard position, and while the Bucks say they’d like to get a new deal done with restricted free agent Brandon Jennings, neither side seems to be closing in on an agreement. The Bucks did issue an offer sheet to Hawks guard Jeff Teague, but Atlanta matched that offer. Bucks sources said the Teague deal was a genuine attempt at securing a guard they really felt fit the team, but it is also clear that Teague at $8 million per season was a big motivator in that offer. Word is that Brandon Jennings’ camp is seeking a deal in the neighborhood of what Jennings’s peers like Stephen Curry, Ty Lawson and Jrue Holiday got last summer, which would be in the $11 to $12 million range and that seems to be a number Milwaukee is unwilling to entertain. Bucks sources were adamant that re-signing Jennings was something they were very open to doing, but it has to be at a price that works for them. Milwaukee issued Jennings a $4.53 million Qualifying Offer to make him a restricted free agent, so they can match anything Jennings is offered by another team. [...] Only the Philadelphia 76ers have any meaningful cap space. The 76ers are sitting on $16.1 million in possible space; Milwaukee is next at just under $8 million, with no other team being able to offer more than an exception-based deal to Jennings, giving Milwaukee all kinds of leverage. Sources close to the process say Jennings has strongly considered picking up his Qualifying Offer and hitting unrestricted free agency next year. If Jennings goes the ‘pick up the option’ route he effectively gains a no-trade clause, as the Collective Bargaining Agreement does not allow for his Bird rights to be transferred if he picks up the option year, which gives him the right to veto any trade. The Bucks and Jennings continue to talk about a deal, but it’s clear that Milwaukee is not overly interested in a $48-$50 million deal for Jennings and that could create an immovable impasse.”

he is not seeing that type of money or even close to it. it’s hard to even come up with an argument for why he should get more than teague. looks like he will have to end up taking the qualifying offer (hey at least he gets a no trade clause, that’s sound pretty dope right?) maybe lottomatica roma are interested

  • Feez_22

    well, damn.

  • MUBWAR

him & teague are basically equals to me

  • i_ball

Did he see what Curry did in the playoffs? Or the record Denver had with Lawson being one of their leaders? Or did he watch the all-star game?

How can he expect to get a deal like those three guys.

  • Vince

Well… he’ll be waiting for a contract for a while.

  • Ishmael Jenkins

He’s not on the level of the star PGs in his draft class. What can we talk about besides the 55 points his rookie season against the Warriors? Since then, most of his biggest highlights have come in summer league games.

I do feel bad that Bogut was hurt his rookie season. They would’ve gotten past the Hawks had he been playing in my opinion. Things may have turned out differently for Jennings after that.

  • robb

    Hahahahhahaha

  • Christopher J Schaaff

Pay this dude! Milwaukee blows Ryan Braun all year & this dude plays his ass off all natty!! Free Jennings!!!

  • BugEyes

I would take a chance at a mid 30s deal if I was a gm, he kept bucks from seeing headlights(thank you) the last 3 season’s I think they made it to playoffs 2 and they have the least talented roster offensively. if he goes to a decent team I think he will flourish and shoot above 39%

  • LP @ThisisEther

shhhhh i would like a contract in the 48-50 milly range too!!!

  • @JNut77

Jennings plays his ass off???? Have you watched the last two seasons of Bucks basketball? If you have, you’d know that after the All-Star game the last two seasons, Jennings play and effort deteriorated as he felt he should’ve been an All-Star. He should take the best offer that Milwaukee gives him.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    i’d rather have Teague.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

uhm, the team finished below .500 the last 2 years. They only made the playoffs this year. The year before that they missed the cut. And before that, Andrew Bogut was why they were winning, not Brandon Jennings.
    .
And shooting above 39% is not flourishing. That’s called, not being horrible.

  • poopdogg

His team was horrible. Watch him all out next year somewhere else! He probably just hates being in Wisconsin. Cheese curds & brats ain’t cutting it. He’s the best player on that team & he’s gonna play better w/o Monta there to ballhog. And I can’t believe anyone feels that Teague is his equal. Jennings is better in every way. Free Jennings!!

  • Markus437

He’s been playing as himself too much In 2k13 to be thinking that he deserves that much money

  • MUBWAR

bj is the better O player and teague is the better defender. play making is a wash between the 2. don’t really get your reasoning onteague exactly, i mean bj got the higher ceiling right? 55 points

  • ayochaser

I don’t know why he thinks he’s worth that much. Steph Curry, & Ty Lawson are in a different class & that’s their price range. I know he’s got a lot of talent & potential but he hasn’t really put it to use in his few years in the nba. He’s shot over 40% from the field once in 4 years & just this year averaged over 6 assists. There are plenty of guys who do that & more on the regular and know better than to ask for 50 mill.

  • ayochaser

He scored 55 his rookie year & didn’t score over 30 again that year. He’s that streaky.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Teague is better at everything but scoring……
    .

    .
And Jennings isn’t really the most efficient scorer in the world. Or even close.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Teague and Jennings aren’t equals. Teague is better. And Jennings will be back in Wisconsin next season.

  • Zett

If he doesn’t deserve that money & I’m not saying he does…. Why is Ty Lawson getting paid that much in Denver?

  • The Philosopher

    Jennings is good.
    Has heart.
    But he is a disappointment.
    In my opinion.

  • bike

Expectations and his opinion of himself have always been higher than Jennings’ reality.

He’s an OK guard who apparently has topped out ability wise.

  • Rob

I’m not paying that kind of money to a selfish player that only cares about his stats so he can get paid later on. He doesn’t help the team at all and we don’t need a score-first pg. we need a pg who is a team player like Teague and Lawson. Get rid of Jennings and make larry sanders the face of the franchise.

  • LakeShow

    4 year $25m imo

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

he won’t take a deal like that. he would take the qualifying offer for 1 year before he did that.

  • LakeShow

Of course he wouldn’t take a deal for what he is worth.
This is the NBA gol dammit!

  • LakeShow

I wish he would bro down with him self for a minute.
A conversation i’d like to see between he, and himself:
    (Brandon to Brandon)
“Listen man, we gotta learn how to finish with our right hand if we are going to take things to the next level and earn a contract like the rest of our contemporaries.”

  • BugEyes

Milwaukee is where guards go to die. Brandon Jennings is an uptempo player, playing is a methodical offense. I think he should go to phoenix and I think he can be a 45, 46 percent shooter. if you put Teague on bucks last 2 year’s there 15 games under 500 imo

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you do realize the Bucks were better with Jennings on the bench right? cuz they were.
    .
and Phoenix is not an option. These teams already have PGs better than Jennings. He needs to realize what he is, and improve on that. Rather then acting like a superstar who deserves twice as much money as he should.

  • BugEyes

You got numbers for that statement? I’m not saying he deserves 50, I said I would take a chance at mid 30s, and Jennings is better than dragic, I would do a sign and trade with the 2.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    of course i do.

    .

    http://www.82games.com/1213/12MIL2.HTM

    .
    Look at the On-Court/Off-Court stats:
    - The Bucks are a -13.0 with Jennings on the court.
    For the season:
    - The Bucks were -449 points worse with Jennings on the court for the season……
(THEY MADE THE PLAYOFFS DESPITE BRANDON JENNINGS)
    .
if that isn’t enough, we can look at simple rating (which is pretty much, how Jennings stacked up against opposing PGs)
    - Brandon Jennings Simple Rating was ….. -4.1

Brandon Jennings is funny as hell, $48-50 million range that’s baffling. Said he wants a deal similar to the ones that Curry, Lawson, and Holiday got, well he’s not going to get that and he shouldn’t because all 3 of those players are better than him.

Let’s ask ourselves what has Brandon Jennings done to get better since his rookie season? Jennings hasn’t done anything to get better since his rookie year, his stats in all categories remain mightily the same, he continues to yank up 3 point shots even when he can’t find his shot, he doesn’t play like a PG (can’t lead his team, puts himself before teammates and already thinks he’s some bona fide NBA superstar), and physically he’s a very weak PG, he’s weighed the same since his senior year of high school (169 lbs) that’s not going to cut it in the NBA, he needs the extra weight to be successful in the NBA unlike players like Kevin Durant.

The Bucks are going to laugh at what Brandon Jennings thinks he’s worth, expect Jennings to pick up that player option because there’s no team in the NBA dumb enough to offer Jennings a $50 million contract. All I know is that next year the Bucks with Jennings and Mayo, two shot heavers and big egos are going to clash next season and one of them is going to get traded before the trade deadline, Bucks are just going to have a disastrous season next year, never want to be where the Bucks have these past few seasons (not bad enough to tank and not good enough to get past the 1st round of the playoffs), they shouldn’t have signed Mayo and they should have let Jennings walk like they did Ellis and just tanked for a chance at Wiggins in 2014 or any other potential star in that 2014 draft.

  • KingBenjamin

Ty Lawson is better than Jennings and can lead his team like a PG is supposed to, Lawson is borderline All-Star, some could say he was even snubbed in 2012.

  • Ishmael Jenkins

Heard the Pistons are about to get Jennings in a sign and trade.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mike.wahl1 Y2Jin99

Reportedly goint to Detroit in a sign and trade and only getting 3 years 24 mil.

  • BugEyes

That 82 games website is legit.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Yeah it is, there a few websites I like to fall back on when I start to observe certain things about a player and need supporting evidence

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

No he won’t dummy. He’ll be in Detroit.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

3 years, 24 million is not bad! You were pretty much right

  • Ugh

    Hahaha. Nice.

  • LakeShow

Off a year and a mill but who’s counting haha.
