Clippers Reportedly Discussing Eric Bledsoe Trade With Bucks and Mavericks

With Chris Paul’s commitment to return having been secured, the LA Clippers can now proceed with the business of shopping highly-coveted backup guard Eric Bledsoe. There have been talks, reportedly, between LA and the Milwaukee Bucks and the Dallas Mavericks (deals which would involve free agents JJ Redick or OJ Mayo.) Per ESPN: “Although sources say that strong signals continue to emanate from new Clippers coach and senior vice president of basketball operations Doc Rivers that he wants to try to keep Bledsoe for another season, sources say that conversations with Milwaukee and Dallas are ‘live,’ which follow the Clippers’ recent talks with both Orlando and Toronto about a Bledsoe deal. The discussions with Dallas, sources said, center on Mayo, whom the Clippers are said to have contacted in the first few hours of NBA free agency Monday. Talks with the Bucks, meanwhile, center on Redick, with one source close to the process saying that a face-to-face meeting between Redick and the Clippers was imminent, perhaps as soon as Monday night. The Clippers, in their previous discussions with Orlando and Toronto, have targeted Magic guard Arron Afflalo and Raptors swingman DeMar DeRozan, although it’s not immediately clear what Toronto’s pending trade of Andrea Bargnani to the New York Knicks does to the Raptors’ ability to stay in the Bledsoe hunt. The Clippers had interest in Bargnani as a potential solution to their lack of floor-spacing shooters. A trade with any of the known suitors would almost certainly have to include other pieces — such as Caron Butler’s expiring contract — because Bledsoe is due to make only $2.63 million next season in the final year of his rookie contract. Bledsoe, a dynamic sparkplug off the bench and outstanding defender, has spent the last two seasons serving as Paul’s apprentice and is widely regarded as being ready for a starting role. The Clippers have acknowledged as much, but it remains to be seen what impact Rivers’ arrival has on their immediate trade plans.”

Mayo return to LA would be huge for his so far disappointing NBA tenure

I dont think they move him right now unless a great deal come along. Rivers made it Clear that he wanted bledsoe in LA and not part of thé kg deal when that was being discussed

If he goes to the Bucks he won’t re-sign with them so they would be without Bledsoe or Reddick in the long run. I don’t see Bledsoe going anywhere this next season.

Can someone enlighten me on my this guy is so coveted? In the handful of games I’ve seen him play in, he struck me as an athletic change-of-pace kind of guy but nothing he did on the court made me think he could be a starting caliber point guard right now. Everyone lauds him for his defense, but there’s no way he could pick up a dude 94 feet for a full game if he’s a full-time starter. But then again, he would be a college junior right now had he stayed at Kentucky so maybe he’s just about to come into his own?

his defense has is about a lot more than his full court pressure. he statistically measured out as the best defensive PG in the whole league last year. offensively, he’s all potential.

his defense is great, bit those stats can be somewhat misleading. he gambles a whole lot sometimes which hurts the team. and off the ball he can get lost some times.

offensively he definitely has potential. if someone can teach him how to actually jump when he shoots the ball he could have deadly pull up. and if he can clean up his ball handling he could be a real factor offensively. i get nervous when i see dude dribble the ball in the half court.

the team is 5 points better per 48 minutes defensively with Bledsoe on the court. he doesn’t hurt the team defensively. not at all.
    .
Offensively he shot 39% from 3 on two attempts a game. so even without a deadly off the dribble jumper, he keeps defenses honest. once he learns how to make moves at different speeds than full speed, he’s going to be less than useless on that end. with how good he is defensively, that might be all a team needs.

agreed, my point was that they might be more than 5 points better if improves the parts of his defense that is lagging. and offensively he is ok, but could be a whole lot better

oh my bad, definitely, he has room to grow, just at 22, not much more you could ask from a back up…

Bledsoe and Caron to the Suns

  • spit hot fiyah

correct for jj reddick and dudley. i was wrong, i thought doc wanted to keep bledsoe for a while. they got shooters now. next step, get big to bring of the bench. landry or speights would be good and affordable imo

  • RayJr

I thought Doc wanted him too. Can they afford Landry or Speights?
Also, is Bledsoe gonna play the 2? They already have Dragic at the 1.

  • roscoe

    tRADE is done.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Dragic will play the 2. Hornacek sees him a lot like he saw himself. And McDonough is a big supporting of 2 PG lineups

  • spit hot fiyah

i don’t know what the numbers look like, but i read a report that said that they had reached out to landry.

  • RayJr

That will be interesting to watch. I can see it working with Bledsoe getting starters minutes now.
