Clippers Sign Byron Mullens to Two-Year Deal

Pretty great summer for the Clippers. According to Yahoo! Sports, they’ve reached an agreement to sign big man and former Charlotte Bobcat Byron Mullens: “Free-agent 7-footer Byron Mullens has reached agreement on a two-year, $2 million contract with the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Mullens will hold a player’s option for the second year of the deal, a source said. The center is one more addition for the Clippers in a summer of deals that included re-signing All-Star Chris Paul and acquiring guards J.J. Redick and Jared Dudley via trade.”

    not what they need

respectfully disagree. a stretch 4 and 4th big off the bench is exactly what they need. it’d be a better move if he were better defensively, but Doc’s getting paid to coach that. Clippers’ roster looks great!

u respectfully disagree? i like it. u must be new to SLAM

seriously though, this stretch 4 shot below 32% from 3 and below 39% from the field. and below 65 % from the free throw line. they need some one who can rebound and play D, and it would not hurt if the guy could make some free throws.

Byron Mullens is a “stretch 4″ but no wear near the caliber of shooter like Ryan Anderson or Dirk Nowitzki Mullens is a 7 foot shooting guard high volume spot up three point shooter that shoots a mediocre percentage

They’re seeking players for the veteran minimum. Of course they have needs, but the players that meet those needs don’t want to play for the minimum. So, if the market leaves them no choice then they might take vet min with LA. If not, then the Clippers will take the best available. Like I keep saying: the clippers have not missed out on veteran minimum free agent PF/C’s

Touche. The guy’s FG% could be a lot better. But considering he couldn’t shoot the 3 at all when he came in the league, I think it’s safe to presume that he’ll continue to improve his shooting. even if he became a 34% 3pt shooter, defenses would have to respect him.

He’s a solid rebounder too. Obviously, he ain’t Reggie Evans. But he boards enough for a 4th big. And like I said, Doc will transform him into a passable defender.

    Preach lol

if he does that, we can just give him COY as soon as that happens

not bad! Don’t know why they need Hollins + Mullens together though. Mullens will be a great small ball 5 in the playoffs, and can hit FT better than Jordan in close games.

I wouldn’t call Mullens a stretch four… but what do I know? I’ve never seen him play, just throw down on LAldridge (which was pretty sick). I knew he could rebound okay, and he was a big, but stretch four?? Nah.

  • BugEyes

I’m lost are you going v for vendetta on me?

  • Nathan Shane Long

As a Bobcats fan in North Carolina i know what Byron Mullens is all about

  • LP @ThisisEther

He didn’t call him a stretch four, he called him a “stretch four”…….and he is a “stretch four”….I know exactly what he means….
