Derrick Rose Says He Will Play in Season Opener

Chicago Bulls superstar point guard Derrick Rose is finally ready to hoop again — Rose is currently on a promotional tour through Europe, and while in Spain, Rose confirmed head coach Tom Thibodeau’s proclamation that he’s fully recovered from knee surgery. Rose says he will play on Opening Night (and he should suit up during the team’s preseason opener in Rio de Janeiro). Per HoopsHype: “At an adidas event this morning in Madrid (Spain), Bulls guard Derrick Rose said he fully expects to return to the court next October. ‘I should be able to play in the first game of season,’ Rose said. ‘I know I’m anxious right now to play. My health is everything right now, it’s 100 percent. But right now, the first game… I will definitely be playing it. We will play in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil [October 12], the first NBA game ever in Rio, so that’s going to be a big game not only for the Bulls but for the NBA. Just some minutes out there, see how it feels just to be back on the court and enjoy the experience.’ Rose, who last played a game on April 28 2012 after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee -had surgery on May 12-, said he has no idea how he’s going to feel when he hits the court again after so many months away. ‘I would say emotional but I’m not an emotional guy like that,’ Rose said. ‘I don’t know how I’m going to react actually when I step on the court or before the game. I know everybody is going to be watching … I’m just trying to prepare for it, go out there and see how it goes. I have a lot of confidence in myself.’ While the mental aspect was one of the things that kept him away last season, that’s no longer an issue now, according to the 2011 MVP. ‘(Mentally) I’m just strong as I’ve been,’ Rose said. ‘I had the time to think about what’s important in my life, getting better on the court, watching a lot of film with Thibs, asking him questions, talking to him about two times a week … So he’s been kind of a professor to me.’ [...] ‘This next season is huge for us,’ Rose said. ‘We’re definitely a contender for the title this year. I’ve been talking to my guys, trying to be more vocal as a leader, just texting them, calling them, just trying to communicate with them to let them know that I will be there next year.’”

Wait I thought he said he had to he 110% ready!? Sketchy where’s the other 10%

Man, feels like it’s been forever since I last saw him play. Wonder if he’ll be as explosive as he was before…

  • MikeC.

He’d better or he’ll lose the goodwill of everyone who stood behind him last season.

  • LP @ThisisEther

    I hope so…he should…

  • Dfrance

It’s all phychological at this point. I’m sure he’s physically as explosive, or close to it, but if he’s scared to hurt himself, he’s not gonna play the same.

Remember when Rose last played a game? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

  • The Seed

Rose needs to just be quiet and play this year. You will be back to play, thanks for letting us know. Go work on your jumpshot now. It costed the Bulls in your last playoff run.

  • spit hot fiyah

    in the realm of imagination

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Exactly. I’m sure his leg and core muscles are just as strong if not stronger than they were pre-injury.
As somone who came off of ACL reconstructive surgery 3 years ago, I can honestly say the toughest part of returning to the game is the fear of re-injury. So instead of focusing on completing a layup in traffic, or changing directions at full speed, one finds themselves focusing more on landing on two feet or avoiding certain movements altogether.
And it’s tougher on players who rely on explosive forays to the rim and stopping on a dime like Derrick.

i actually hear in practice he’s basically old derrick rose. even DURING THE PLAYOFFS he was the best player in practice. since then, i hear he’s an absolute monster.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i mean, you do realize Iman Shumpert was a below average NBA player this year right?

  • TR

I’m excited for this season, a lot of guys coming back at full strength or close to it hopefully. Rose, Love, Howard, GREG ODEN!!!!!

  • don

except for that follow dunk one time. that was a VC moment there for 2secs

  • Dfrance

I hope so man, I’d love to see him not skip a beat.

  • Earphonic

I’ll believe it when I see it. Maybe if he stays out, he’ll become 120, 130, heck, even 140%!

  • danpowers

i mean, you do realize “(for the sake of trolling)”? could that mean that post wasnt really supposed to be taken serious? hmm…

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i was just trying to make sure you realize it’s not really trolling when you post a guy who came off of ACL surgery in shorter time, only to be a bad player……
    .
    apparently you didn’t.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

HE SKIPPED A SEASON. (sorry couldn’t resist).

  • danpowers

i didnt put him in the same category with rose.
and oh yeah, he has really been such a bad player. i wonder why the knicks didnt cut him yet lol

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

what? below average is just what he was. he wasn’t terrible or anything, i’m not trying to solicit a defense from you. just wanted you to know that your “trolling” was not trolling. well, not in the way that you intended. no matter what category you put him in or whatever.

  • Sed

Would Rose be the first player to win Rookie Of the Year, M.V.P. and Comeback player of the year?

  • Caboose

    Costed? Wow

  • Caboose

Dudley was still better this year… :)

  • danpowers

    lol not that bs again

  • Caboose

I mean, Duncan had a helluva comeback year this season…

  • Max

Yea I think he’ll probably either come out the gate red hot or a little bit shaky all because of the nerves, I’m sure if he stays healthy all season come playoff time we’ll see the old DRoseback.

  • T-man

    ha!

  • danpowers

nah, its allright. it was a miracle that the knicks made it to the second round even though he was back on court, really.
could you also please get more into detail to explain to me what my intentions were when i posted this and how i have to understand my own nagging? that would be too kind

  • danpowers

it cost the bulls their series against the heat? you mean the same series they wouldnt have even reached in the first place without him? uhm…

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you posted a picture of Iman Shumpert smiling, in a thread about Derrick Rose taking his time coming back from the same knee injury that Shumpert suffered, and then labelled it trolling.
    .
the intentions behind your comment are quite clear.
    .
you just missed the mark, seeing as how Rose coming back to be a worse player than when he left (like Shumpert) would have been pointless.
    .
what is hard to understand? i’m not trying to be rude, i’m just pointing out what should be obvious.

  • danpowers

nah, i just see many stupid knicks fans doing this while being dead serious about it on some social platforms. guess you saw some of these brain dead memes. im a friend of inappropiate humor as long as its harmless so i just brought some of this brain deadness in here with a little wink. dont take it serious at all. ive even been arguing against morons blaming rose for not comming back on slam when he refused to play during the playoffs – thats what im about when its about real talk.
in other words: its summer, so im bored nba wise, what else should i do in here? lol

  • danpowers

didnt another bulls player do that during his career first? what was his name again…?

  • Caboose

Uhhh…..idk….I’ll bet he was pretty good though

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Haha well my bad. I’d probably gone for this, http://master-cdn.memepix.com/images/gifp/2dlpc.jpg

  • Lloyd

    Where was that report from?

  • Lloyd

    Derrick Rises.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

People that were around the team regarding how good he was in practice. It wasn’t media rumor stuff. I don’t remember who specifically right now (it was on twitter I’m pretty sure), I can check when I get back on a computer tomorrow. As to him being a monster currently, that’s what every reference to him playing has said. So that could be just a big narrative being built to increase interest. Unlike the stuff about him in practice which wasn’t really covered to you know, stave off any of Rose centered criticism that the team could.

  • Lloyd

Damn I don’t even care where it’s from. I just hope to God it’s true.

  • Evan Boland

    Yeah right lol

  • Evan Boland

The amount of time he took to come back was ridiculous, and everybody knows. And you know it, too.

  • Interdico Scriptor

Question is, is he the Grant Hill/Anfernee Hardaway of his generation?

  • Interdico Scriptor

Insightful – YES, patronizing – SOMETIMES, funny – RARELY.

  • Interdico Scriptor

Pedantic much? Let the man speak! It’s great u comment bruh but methinks @Nbk needs some release!

  • Interdico Scriptor

    Dudley? Clips/Suns Dudley?? how so???

  • Interdico Scriptor

Have u noticed no-one wins ROY twice!

  • danpowers

not to forget the steal against boston to end their historic comeback run which kept the knicks from becoming the laugher of the season.

one can say alot about shumpert’s flaws and raw game, but this kid is the definition of mentally tough

  • danpowers

sure it was, but we cant look into his head. if he isnt that mentally tough then he shouldnt come back b4 he feels ready. if his head or belly told him that he wasnt ready yet then he simply wasnt.

the risk is just too high to play when you feel fragile: if you return from an ACL injury and get hurt again that could very well end your career.

look at the shumpert case – he came back and it took him 20 horrible games b4 he was able to play well. during that time he had a couple of tweaks and soreness in his formerly damaged knee which made most knicks fans hope he wouldve rested a little longer.

the knicks needed him badly and he helped alot during the playoffs and as much as i love his mental toughness i doubt that his early return was smart or right decission. it went well, but it couldve turned out awfully wrong, too.

  • Dfrance

Never pass up a good joke opportunity! lol

  • Caboose

    Inside joke, breh.

  • The Seed

Go rewatch the series and it will show Derrick was not confident in his jumpshot.

  • danpowers

nor in his teammates which might have also played a role. which is ok given his age, give him some time to grow. people tend to expect too much of the kid especially due to his debatable mvp award.

he carried the team’s offense which can cause fatigue even for a young guy during a deep playoff run. if your jumper isnt of the quality of ray allen’s shot even slightly tired legs wont let you work miracles with it. hes been working on all aspects of his game since he is in the league so i dont see any reason to point that out, blame or indirectly criticize this part of his game in a way your comment implied.

  • danpowers

question is, is this the most stupid question of today?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

was just trolling him back booboo, he understood what i was doing.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

haha no doubt, you have taught me this well! lol

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

and you are…….? supercilious – apparently, judgmental – definitely, helpful – nope.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

it’s also true for this year. lol

  • Interdico Scriptor

    Yup
