Detroit Pistons to Reportedly Make Josh Smith a ‘Substantial’ Offer

The Detroit Pistons met with free agent forward Josh Smith, and reportedly have plans to make Smoove a four-year offer. Per Yahoo! Sports: “Atlanta has shown far more interest in working sign-and-trade arrangements for Smith than re-signing him to a long-term deal, league sources said. Along with re-signing point guard Jose Calderon, Smith is the Pistons’ top priority on the market, league sources said. The Pistons planned to make a preemptive strike on Smith, understanding that he’s a secondary priority for several teams awaiting the resolution of the Dwight Howard derby, sources said. Smith, 27, is one of the free-agent stars on the market, a versatile 6-foot-9 forward that Dumars would add to a front line that includes Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond. Smith averaged 17.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Hawks last season.”

I really hope they don’t offer this guy max money. I’d like to see the Pistons get back to relevance at some point.

dumars made some great moves to put together championship team in 05, since then it has been downhill in a major way. the draft has been good, but the free agent situation has been a disaster. the gordon and charlie v deals were terrible, props for getting rid of gordon and prince though. they could have let stuckey go and saved like 5 million but chose to keep him, he is what he is at this point and it is not what they had in mind when they drafted him.

monroe, drummond, jsmith front court is interesting though

not with 3 guys in the front court that basically will struggle to put the ball in the basket…..Nice Defensive trio tho….

Someone please explain to me how Smith, Monroe and Drummond can play at the same time.

Here’s what I think though. He plans to trade Monroe for a big package this year. The Pistons were best when Monroe and Drummond were on the court separately, and Drummond has more potential than Monroe.

    He’s not getting max money. 18, 8 and 4 aren’t max numbers.

tell that to brook lopez. ok, he’s 7ft…

He’s still on his way up tho, and this will be Josh’s 9th year in the league. He aint getting much better

it would seem like the lane would be pretty clogged. but monroe is actually very good at the high post and could play a lot from there. the two back court guys would have to be very good shooters, other wise the spacing will be terrible.
i guess mo cheeks would have his work cut out for him with that line up.

defensively they would be nice against a big team, but probably get burnt by a small ball team.

I’ve heard the Pistons might deal Calderon for Lin.

  • Blakos

Trade Monroe for an elite Swingman and you might have something. Drummond is a centre with massive upside
